2 A Project Management Training Conference The need exists, more than ever before, for organizations to effectively select the right enterprizes they apply their resources to work on. Organizations are consistently looking towards Project Management as an approach to effectively manage this work. Project Management is a systematic approach, and like other management concepts, is consistently reviewed, improved and innovated. This conference, as it has done so for the past six years, brings to its delegates some of the latest innovations and developments from both real-life experiences of the speakers, as well as from governing bodies such as the Project Management Institute (PMI), in a way that promotes sharing amongst the dedicated proponents of the profession. This training forum is organized by the Hellenic American Union Center of Excellence in Project Management (HAU CoE) in association with Business Management Consultants. The organizers Hellenic American Union Center of Excellence The HELLENIC AMERICAN UNION, established in 1957, is a not-- for-profit and public-service organization with an international focus and strong community commitment, dedicated to providing opportunities for a diverse range of audiences to encounter and benefit from innovative educational programs and cultural events. In 2003, the Hellenic American Union established the first Center of Excellence in Project Management in Greece with the mission of raising business performance by championing Project Management. The HAU Center of Excellence in Project Management is one of the largest providers of project management training in Greece, being the only training provider that offers a complete project management training program. HAU is also a Globally Registered Project Management Institute (PMI ) Training Provider. Business Management Consultants (BMC) Founded in 1985, Business Management Consultants (BMC) is an elite international management consulting firm specializing in Global Project Management training and consulting. 4 TRACK 1 Beyond Project Management the Business Analysis Approach "You ve cut the waste out of your own operations. Now, you face an even tougher challenge: streamlining the processes you share with other companies." The Superefficient Company, Michael Hammer, HBR In this book Michael Hammer stressed the fact that the most efficient company is as efficient to its end customer as the least efficient player in the value chain that company operates in. The same principle applies in business management. We've all witnessed model project management implementations underperforming because of weaknesses in the business environment. One example is the mandate for agility in project management. Instead of a framework to support an agile business environment, agile project management is often perceived as a remedy to ambiguous unstructured business operations. In this workshop we'll take a flight over the components of a structured business environment. We'll fly over Enterprise and Business Architecture and watch TOGAF BizBOK among other landmarks and finally land at Business analysis and explore it. We'll go over the knowledge areas and the tools as well as the certification process. In the end we'll connect this to the project management practice. Mr. Liakeas holds a degree in Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, an international MBA specialized in e-business from Athens University of Economics and Business and he is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Aegean, Department of Finance and Management Engineering working on the subject Strategy and Business Models of Banks in Europe. Mr. Liakeas started his career as a software developer and an instructor on IT subjects. He then moved to the Athens Stock Exchange as a Technical Advisor to the president. Subsequently he moved to Saudi Arabia to join SETE Technical SA as the IT manager. He joined Eurobank Ergasias SA to lead a team for the Altamira project and was part of the team that launched the first versions of the e-banking service of Eurobank Ergasias SA. Later in his career he joined Microsoft Hellas as a senior consultant and a financial services industry specialist. Following the acquisition of Geniki Bank by Société Générale he joined the bank to build the Alternative Channels team and launched the e-banking and phone banking services for the bank. 5 TRACK 1 Agile Project Management Agile project management approaches reverse the classical processes of project management by giving frequent opportunities to the customer to more precisely re-state their requirements without disrupting the application development processes. This course will introduce you to agile project management values and principles and concepts such as Scrum. 7 TRACK 2 Project Portfolio Management Essentials Structuring the portfolio of work, making the right, timely decisions with regard to the Portfolio, the optimal use of resources, and ensuring adequate support to the Project Management System is maintained, are all influential to success. But what is Portfolio Management, how do organisations co-ordinate and approach the different types of work they do? How do organisations decide what work to do, and as importantly what not to do, and what are the key drivers for making these decisions? How do organisations improve performance by categorising work in the portfolio and ensure the right people manage the work? In the Portfolio Management workshop we will address these questions and more, using examples from a variety of small to large organisations, across a range of industry sectors. The workshop will be interactive, allowing participants to share their own experiences as well as the speakers, ask specific questions relating to the topic, and baseline their own companies performance against an industry benchmark. 8 TRACK 3 Angry, happy, or poker-faced? The role of non verbal communication in negotiation People enter negotiation situations every day in a wide variety of contexts and interactions to resolve differences, to influence others to take particular actions, to allocate scarce resources, or just simply to close a good business deal. Beyond practicing common negotiation techniques and developing negotiation skills this workshop focuses on the emotional intelligence factors and non verbal elements that influence negotiation outcomes. Learning outcomes This workshop will provide participants with clues to: manage their emotions during negotiations use body language and non verbal elements effectively detect intentions and strategies of other parties during negotiations and take advantage of this knowledge for the benefit of their interests How body language affects negotiations General non verbal elements First impressions Seating arrangements Proxemics and personal space Specific non verbal clues Gestures Posture Facial expressions How to detect deception and turn it to your advantage Who should attend: Everyone who is involved in contractual agreements. Workshop facilitator: Yiannis Petropoulos, Instructor, Hellenic American Union Mr. Petropoulos has been teaching English as a foreign and second language for twenty five years. Over the last 15 years he has taught college-level Writing, Creative Writing, Fiction, Literary Analysis and Business Communications. For the last 10 years he has been teaching corporate seminars in oral and written communication skills. Mr. Petropoulos teaches Critical Thinking at Hellenic American University. He is also responsible for the promotion of English language programs, testing and international certification in the Balkans. Yiannis Petropoulos received his B.A. in English Literature from the American College of Greece. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Comparative Literature and an M.A. in 19th and 20th century English and American Literature from the University of Essex, UK. He also holds a Diploma in Shipping from Morley College, London. 8

9 TRACK 3 Resolving conflict within project teams This workshop provides participants with a thought-provoking learning experience exploring four conflictprevention skills and experiments with applying them to specific conflict situations. An experiential process will take place with examples of typical conflict situations that are frequently experienced generated by participants (e.g., misunderstanding, personality clash, poor performance, difference of opinion or values, lack of cooperation, authority issues, differing goals, competition, etc) and the concept of conflict management will be introduced. This workshop will also provide an alternative understanding of the nature of conflict that is natural, inevitable and desirable and challenge participants to begin changing their attitudes and deal with conflicts in a productive manner. All participants will be provided with conflict alternative worksheets to record insights as participants explore four conflict management strategies that are useful in a wide variety of settings including a) Cultivate a positive mental attitude, b) Focus on the issue, not the person, c) Increase your tolerance level and d) Keep conflict in perspective. Workshop facilitator: Dr. Chryssoula Kostogianni, Director of Psychology Programs, Hellenic American University Dr. Kostogianni obtained a B.S. in Psychology from Baylor University, Texas and a M.A and Ph.D. in Clinical and School Psychology from Hofstra University, New York. She worked as a Professor of Psychology for over 16 years at Deree College -- The American College of Greece. In addition, for the past 17 years, as a Greek licensed psychologist she provides psychological services to individuals, couples and groups and consultation services to schools and businesses. She holds the position of Scientific Director and Supervisor of the Hellenic Institute for Rational-Emotive and Cognitive Behavior Therapy where she trains and supervises mental health professionals. She currently serves as the Director of the Undergraduate & Graduate Psychology Programs at the Hellenic American University. 9

In his 25-year career, he has led multinational project teams in new product and application development. Mr. Chasapis was heavily involved in projects related to business transformation, Bank acquisitions and subsidiaries divestiture. He studied Electronic Design Automations, Computer Science, while he holds a certificate of specialization in Bank Management by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Mr. Chasapis has held IT Manager and Project Manager positions in HSBC, one of the largest banking and financial services institutions in the world. He is an instructor on project management courses providing consulting and training. He is a member of the Project Management Institute and a PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP ), while he has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors at the Greek Project Management Institute (PMI-GREECE) for the period

11 TRACK 3 Explore MS Project This workshop provides you with an overview of the basic tools of MSP 2010 plus some tips and tricks to help you start building and tracking project schedules with precision. You will become familiar with the basic menus, views and reports using sample project data. You will have the opportunity to work on your own PC and start building a project schedule in MSP2010. This is a hands-on workshop with PCs, which can only accommodate a limited number of participants.
