Registration can be completed the first day of the class unless there is a pre-registration date listed. In person registration at the Community Services Office (633 Walnut) or online at If a class is canceled, a full refund will be issued. Refunds will be issued if staff is notified prior to the 2nd day of class. A $5.00 service charge will apply. FACILITY RENTALS The City of Abilene has several facilities that are available for rent. Our staff is working hard to provide you the best recreation opportunities by creating a mix of your old favorites with new events and leagues. 9 CLASS INFORMATION DOG OBEDIENCE CLASSES All classes are held at Cobb Recreation Center and will be taught by Stephanie DeYoung. The class minimum is 5 participants. A supply list will be provided at the first class. Children are welcome to participate with parental supervision and assistance. PUPPY KINDERGARTEN This class will focus on basic obedience using positive reinforcement techniques. Puppies ages 10 weeks to 5 months are eligible. Tue, June 10 through Tue, July 22 6:30pm to 7:30pm $65/residents $68/non-residents BEGINNING DOG OBEDIENCE This class will focus on basic obedience for dogs 5 months and older. Please bring proof of required shots ZUMBA Join us for a Latin and international dance fitness class with a little bit of hip hop. You can burn from 500 to over 1000 calories based on your intensity. This camp is a 4 week challenge which features a variety of exercises, full body analysis, a personalized diet plan, Fitness Evaluation and more. All fitness levels are welcome. 11 ATHLETIC LEAGUE INFORMATION For questions regarding athletic leagues, please call Donnie Hart at (325) or WOMEN S BASKETBALL LEAGUE Open to women 18 and older. Cost is $300 per team. Registration deadline is July 11. RACQUETBALL Sears Recreation Center has two racquetball courts that are free to use during operational hours. To reserve a court, please call OPEN BASKETBALL & VOLLEYBALL NIGHTS Please contact each Recreation Center for open nights and times. LACROSSE Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in Texas. Come and learn how to play this fun and exciting game. Classes are held at Chavez Recreation Center Mon, (ages 7 to 13) Mon, (ages 14 and up) 6pm to 7pm 7pm to 8pm BASKETBALL OFFICIATING CLASS Are you interested in becoming a basketball referee? Learn the basic principles of rules, terminology, and mechanics. Classes will include guest speakers, lecture, video break down, and court time. Fees include mesh officiating shirt and whistle. Cost is $400 per team. Registration deadline is Sept 19. MEN S FLAG FOOTBALL REFEREES We are seeking Flag Football officials to referee for the Men s Flag Football League. The pay is $30 per game. YOUTH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE Open to girls ages 9 to 12. The league will be two different divisions (9-10 and 11-12). League will consist of 2 weeks of practices and games followed by an end of season tournament. Games will be held on Saturday s. Cost is $45 per person, which includes team jersey, knee pads and trophy. Registration deadline is September 12. BEGINNER BASKETBALL CLINIC This clinic is designed to teach youth (ages 10-13) the fundamentals and basics of basketball. Clinic instructor is Jazmyn Gindratt. The Senior Talent show is open to Senior Citizens ages 55 and older. This show is a wonderful opportunity to display talents. Proceeds from the admission will go towards programs benefitting senior citizens in Abilene. MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION The City of Abilene Senior Services Division offers Medical transportation for citizens 60 and older. The fee is donation based. Participants must be able to walk to and from the car without assistance. Stops include medical, appointments, prescriptions and more. Service is available Monday through Thursday from 9am to 1:30pm. For more information, please call DAILY MEAL A delicious and nutritious meal that exceeds 1/3 the minimum daily requirement is served Monday - Friday from 11:30am to 12:15pm. The meal is served at Four (4) Centers. Special or therapeutic diets are available with a physician s order. Senior Citizens age 60 and older are eligible to eat on a donation basis, suggested donation is $2.50. For 60 years and under lunch will cost $3.50. Monthly menu is posted on our website at TRANSPORTATION City of Abilene offers transportation by donation for senior citizens 60 and older. Transportation is to and from one of the four (4) Senior Centers. Senior Citizens will be picked up from their home and brought to the Senior Center for activities and lunch. They will be returned home following lunch. Bi-monthly, after lunch, transportation is provided to a local grocery store. City bus drivers will assist in loading and unloading your purchases. This service is free of charge, however donations are accepted. Please call to schedule transportation

15 ADAPTIVE RECREATION SERVICES Adaptive Recreation Services 2609 South 7th Hours: 9am to 3:30pm GOAL The Adaptive Recreation Services (ARS) mission is to provide specialized leisure and adaptive recreational activities for persons with disabilities. FEE The program fee is $32 per month. ACTIVITIES The ARS Program offers a wide variety of activities that include Classes, Special Olympics, Dances, Free Lunch Program, Field Trips, Fitness Classes, Arts and Crafts, and more. ELIGIBILITY Participants must be school age, and adults that have a diagnosis of cognitive and/or physically challenged. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARS is looking for volunteers interested in assisting individuals with disabilities in recreation programs. MONTHLY CALENDARS ARS publicizes a monthly calendar of activities for individuals with disabilities of all ages. Please call and have your name added to our mailing list. SPECIAL OLYMPIC OPPORTUNITIES ARS offers programs for Special Olympic athletes. 16 TEEN PROGRAMMING Teen Nights These programs are designed to create a safe and fun environment for teens, ages 11 to 18. These teen groups meet to discuss upcoming fundraisers, community projects, and enjoy free time to socialize. Daniels Recreation Center Cobb Recreation Center Cobb Park Crew Tue 6pm to 9pm 2nd & 4th Tue 6pm to 7:30pm Volunteer Program The Teen Volunteer Program is an opportunity for your youth to learn different skills to better prepare for future employment. The program will cover completion of job applications, interviewing techniques, job responsibility, and much more. The program will include guest speakers will discuss what employers are looking for in their employees. Participants will also complete an internship with the City of Abilene working with staff in our Summer Playground Program.
