1 Student Information CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Course Dates The course runs one day a week for 63 weeks Time: Location: 9.30 am 3.30 pm Laverton Community Hub, Railway Avenue, Laverton Room No: 4 Start Date: Monday 16 th February 2015 End Date: Monday 20 th June 2016 (this takes into account any public holidays) PLEASE NOTE: No classes for Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care between: 21/12/15 8/1/16 or any gazetted public holidays. Eligibility for Victorian and Commonwealth Government Funding You may be eligible for reduced tuition fees through the Victorian Training Guarantee (VTG). To determine your tuition fee, you will be asked to provide the following evidence: Identification Proof of Australian citizenship/permanent residency Previous qualifications completed in Australia Your total course fee will be confirmed at your pre-course interview. Access to further Government Funded Training If you have enrolled in a course as a Government funded student through the Victorian Training Guarantee, it is important to understand that undertaking this enrolment may impact on your ability to access further Government funded training. Total courses fees are required within 7 days of enrolment. Payment plans are available if you are unable to pay in full prior to the course commencement. These details can be arranged at your pre-enrolment interview. Course Description Students who complete the course successfully will receive a qualification from the nationally accredited Community Services Training Package CHC. CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Completion of this course qualifies people to work in Children s Services including Early Childhood Education Centre s, Childcare Centre s and Family Day Care. Career Opportunities These qualifications give students the knowledge and skills necessary to gain employment in Early Childhood Education and Care sector. Job titles include: Supervisor Child Care Centre Manager Early Childhood Educator Pre requisites There are no pre-requisites for entry into this qualification. Qualification Requirements To achieve this qualification a total of 28 units of competency must be completed. Please be aware that this course is delivered in clusters meaning that relevant units have been grouped together allowing for holistic and consolidated delivery of training where unit information compliment one another. 4 Entry to Course There are several steps required to gain entry to this course. 1. Attend an information session about the course. The session will provide in depth details and information about the course and you will have the opportunity to ask questions, and clarify any aspects you are unsure about. 2. The information sessions for this course are scheduled for: TIME/DATE: VENUE: TBA TBA 3. Attend a Pre Course interview that will include a literacy/numeracy assessment this is to assess whether you have the literacy and numeracy skills required to undertake this course, and whether you need any special support or assistance to undertake the course. The assessment is completed on the computer and takes 70 minutes. 4. Pre Course interview: You will then have a pre course interview with the VET Coordinator or Education Manager. At the interview your course fee will be confirmed and you can discuss payment options including payment plans. The interview will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about the course, applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This refers to any skills and knowledge and previous experience you may have had, that is relevant to the course. (see further information about RPL below). 5. If you decide to enrol into the course, you will be required to read, complete and sign the Enrolment Form and a Victorian Training Guarantee student declaration (if you have been deemed eligible for government funding) & and your Training Plan must be signed within 4 weeks of commencement of training. 6. The total course fee will need to be paid within 7 days unless a payment plan has been enacted. Please see below for more information about Payment Plans. 7. You will be advised by letter if you have been accepted into the course. 8. Prior to commencing your work placement, you will be required to apply for and obtain a National Police Clearance Certificate. Recognition of Qualifications Laverton Community Education Centre will accept and recognise the qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by other Registered Training Organisations. 5 If you have already attended a course at another organisation, and have received a Certificate or Statement of Attainment, bring it in and show us. It may mean you don t have to do the entire course. Recognition of Prior Learning Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a system designed to enable you to match your knowledge and skills against the essential outcomes or elements of a unit of competency. You can apply for RPL if you think your prior learning and experience means you already have the competencies of the particular unit. If your prior learning shows you can achieve the essential outcomes of a unit you may be assessed on that learning and given credit for that unit in the course. RPL takes into account not only the formal study you have completed, but also any relevant learning you have done through work, community involvement, home, formal training and life experience. If you think you may be able to provide evidence to demonstrate RPL, you will have the opportunity to discuss this at your Pre-Course interview. An appointment will be made for an assessor to assist you in identifying the units you wish to apply for RPL against, and guide you through the required process. The cost of RPL is $100 per unit. enrolment fees will be given. However, if RPL is granted, a proportionate refund of Refunds LCEC will provide refunds in accordance with the LCEC Fees, Charges, Concessions and Refunds policy. A copy of the policy will be provided at the pre course interview or alternatively, it can be viewed on our website. Work Placement In addition to class time, students who are not currently working within the Childcare industry are required to complete a minimum of 240 hour work placement with a local early childhood care facility. This work placement will be arranged by Laverton Community Education Centre. Teaching Methods Teaching methods include classroom learning and work placement of a minimum of 240 hours. Students will receive a Learner Guide for each unit studied and will complete a range of practice activities during class and self-study times. Assessment Methods Assessment is based on competency - the ability to perform specific skills, and is done through a combination of observation, discussion, written assignments, tests, demonstrations and practical application projects in class & during work placement. Students will be advised in Page 5 of 6 October 2014

6 advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. If needed, students will have the chance for reassessment and appeal. Appeals Students have the right of appeal against assessment decisions. An Assessment Appeals Application can be obtained by contacting the Education Manager. Students need to be aware a submitted copy of a completed Assessment Appeals Application must be given no later than three days after notification of the assessment result. The Appeals Policy and Procedure are available to students by contacting the Education Manager. Page 6 of 6 October 2014
