1 Join us! On behalf of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Workforce on National Databases, I am pleased to invite you to Advances in Quality & Outcomes: A Data Managers Meeting. This three-day annual event for data managers will be held this year Oct. 4-6 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. The AQO conference will focus on all three Databases that compose the STS National Database: Adult Cardiac Surgery, Congenital Heart Surgery, and General Thoracic Surgery. The primary objective of this meeting is to provide attendees with a variety of presentations and discussions to help them improve data collection and patient outcomes. Of particular importance this year to Congenital Heart Surgery Database data managers is a comprehensive overview of the new data specification upgrade that becomes effective Jan. 1, The AQO conference is designed for health care professionals and data collection personnel who are dedicated to delivering and improving quality health care to cardiovascular surgery patients. Credit will not be awarded for overlapping sessions. Please refer to credit designation below. Certificates: Continuing education records for STS AQO attendees are kept for a period of seven years. Accreditation: This educational activity is co-provided by STS and Corexcel. Corexcel is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the ANCC s Commission on Accreditation.

Target Audience The target audience for this meeting is any health care professional devoted to improving the quality of care of cardiothoracic surgery patients. Encouraged to attend are data managers, physicians, registered nurses, perfusionists, and quality improvement personnel involved in STS National Database data collection. Anyone striving to improve the care of the cardiothoracic surgery patients through the use of outcomes data will also benefit by attending. About Dallas The Hilton Anatole is located in the heart of Dallas. Home to the world s third busiest airport, Dallas offers nearly 2,000 flights per day with non-stop service to and from hundreds of domestic destinations. There will be plenty to see and do while you re in town for the AQO meeting, and autumn is the perfect time to visit! These materials may not be reproduced, published, adapted, or distributed without the prior written consent of STS. Pre-registered attendees will be ed no later than Oct. 2 with information on obtaining available presentations. Copies of presentations will not be available onsite. If you wish to save the presentations to your laptop, tablet, or other portable device, please download the presentations in advance and come with a fully charged battery. Individual power outlets will not be available in the meeting rooms, nor will wireless Internet. For safety reasons, power cords will not be allowed to span aisles or walkways at any time. If you would like to take notes on handouts, please print the applicable handouts and bring them with you to the meeting. The hotel has a business center where you can print for a fee. A notebook that includes the agenda will be provided to each attendee.
