Guiding Questions Why is entrepreneurship important? What strategies are effective? What stories offer powerful lessons? How can NACCE help you?
Community College Facts Low socioeconomic status (SES) students outrank high SES students nearly 2:1 at community colleges Between 1999 and 2009, funding for public research universities exceeded funding for community colleges by $4000:1 Although 81.4% of students entering community college planned to earn at least a bachelor s degree, only 11.6% end up doing so Source: campuslogic.com (March 14, 2015)
Facts Translate to Challenges & Opportunities Student Success Retention & Completion College Presidents Revenue Challenges Engagement of Faculty & Staff
The Power of an Entrepreneurial Mindset Change
One Perspective
The Entrepreneurial Method Means what assets do you have? Affordable Loss or acceptable loss what are you prepared to lose? Co-Creation/Partnership who will partner with you?
The Entrepreneurial Method Provides a Framework Leverage Contingencies how can you learn from failure? Worldview what can you control? Reed, S., Sarasvathy, S.D., Dew, N., Wiltbank, R., & Ohlsson, A.V. (2011). Effectual entrepreneurship. New York, NY: Rotledge.

Dayton Birthplace of Aviation Clark State is located about 30 min from Dayton Ohio, where Wright Brothers changed the world with the first powered flight
Wright Patterson Air Force Base Clark State is also in close proximity to WPAFB
Ohio/Indiana UAS Center & Test Complex Initially formed to strengthen Ohio s application to be 1 of the 6 UAS Test Sites Focuses critical resources on UAS research, development, testing, manufacturing and training Is located in Springfield, 6 miles away from the main campus
Aviation in Ohio Ohio is the North American hub for Aerospace and Aviation advancement 17% of total US employment in aviation Annual economic impact of 10 billion * WPAFB is leading the state in aerospace research and development General Electric (GE) partnered with Ohio Third Frontier effort economic development initiative *source: from Jobs Ohio
Agriculture in Ohio Governor Kasich has stated that Agriculture is the number 1 industry in Ohio Contributes 11.7% of Ohio total economic output 1 out of every 7 jobs are related to Agriculture There are 75,700 farms with an average size of 188 acres Has 14.3 million acres in farming *source: from Ohio Department of Agriculture
What is Precision Agriculture? Also called Site-Specific Crop Management (SSCM) Breaks the field into small areas and manages each separately A blend of traditional agricultural practices as well as innovative geospatial applications
Why Precision Agriculture? Save time Especially for crop scouting Increase yields Find yield limiting problems quickly Manage crop health imaging Seeing the true health of their fields Continuously monitor Not limited to a 1 time snapshot
Wages and Employment Trends Median wage in Ohio: $22.60 hourly or $47,000* annual (with A.A.S.) Project growth of 8-14% with a projected amount of job openings of 31,600 within the next 6 years *Source: O*NET
Business Partners Clark State was successful in engaging business partners: Select Tech Geospatial Ohio Indiana UAS Test Center Trupointe Cooperative City of Springfield Integrated Ag Services Ag Data Services John Deere Case IH Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce ATIC Riverside Research Central State University Kirkwood Community College The Ohio State University Air Force Research Lab
Greene County, Ohio ISO 9001/AS9100 Consortium
What is ISO9001/AS9100? One of 2 industry accepted international quality management and supply chain system standards AS9100 training will allow organizations access to an expanding Aerospace manufacturing supply chain More than $13 billion in parts produced; projected to exceed $20 billion annually by 2020 in Ohio. ISO 9001 is a critical component to any organization planning to do business with the U.S. Air Force, the Department of Defense, other government agencies and a multitude of industries. The Consortium (Greene County Econ Dev and Clark State) offers companies the opportunity to implement an ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 system at a significantly reduced rate.
Entrepreneurial Approach to Training Typically, a business with employees will pay more than $25, to train and implement ISO 9001/AS9100 in their facility. By flipping the standard formula, we are able to offer this same training to any size business in a classroom setting- for only $ This is a significantly reduced rate.
Projections: Ohio Time Period: Economic impact: $339 Million Taxes: $2.43 Million Employment: 1,844 Time Period: Economic impact: $2.156 Billion Taxes: $14.60 Million Employment: 2,725 *Source: AUVSI International March 2013 report
