The Answer: Disclosure: The answers presented in this presentation maybe be appropriate for some institutions, for some campuses, on some days of the week, in certain circumstances, and should not be considered the answer for all institutions, or all campuses, on all days of the week, in all circumstances, but it could be, if the organization is lucky, works hard and has their stars are in alignment.

COLLEGE COST TOO MUCH! Value Proposition of all of higher education questioned 57% of Americans say the higher education system in the U.S. fails to provide students With good value for the money they spend and 75% say that college is too expensive for most. 57% of adults 18 to 34 who are not in school and do not have a degree say they Would prefer to work and make money instead and 48% say they just downright can t afford to go to college. Pew Research Center

MOST COLLEGE STUDENTS DON T GRADUATE ON TIME

COLLEGE GRADUATES STILL MAKE MORE MONEY AND HAVE A LOWER UNEMPLOYMENT RATE. Demographics rule

Student Market Realities Growth in 2-Year Degrees Earned by Adults The number of associate degrees earned by adult students is growing faster than those earned by traditional-age students. The report, which is based on data from 3,300 institutions, found that the number of twoyear degrees awarded by public institutions to students who were at least 25 years old increased by 22 percent in the three years after 2008, when the recession began, compared to a 17 percent increase for younger students. National Student Clearinghouse's Research Center.

Student Market Realities College Enrollments Down Slightly, Higher Education Shrinks for First Time in 15 years Hechinger Report 10/11/2012 Enrollment dipped 2.23 percent at community colleges And 7 percent at for-profit two-year programs

Five Reasons College Enrollments Might Be Dropping 1, The population of 18-year-olds is in decline. 2. The turnaround of the economy is working to lower the numbers 3. Eligibility for federal financial assistance has been tightened. 4. Colleges may in some cases be pricing themselves out of the market. 5. Concern appears to be rising about the rate of return on college investments. Richard Vedder

Why Are Proprietary Schools on the Radar? Last year $32 billion dollars in Title IV funds were distributed to proprietary schools That is 25% of the entire Department of Education budget. Of that $32 billion, 23% was attributed to recruiting and marketing; 19% was attributed to profit; and 17% to instruction. CEO s were paid on average of $7.3 million annually. Half of those students left school with student loan debt and no degree or certificate of any kind. The government is now looking at the ROI of it s educational investment Jennifer Flood, JD Integrishield

Cohort Default Rates by Sector Data proves that the gap between proprietary and public sectors is closing, primarily because students who have traditionally attended proprietary schools are being driven to attend public schools because of the bad publicity put out by the press and politicians that does not clearly represent the quality of education in most proprietary institutions. This data proves that the trending and rates is more closely tied to the type of students who attend and not the type of school. It further documents that the type of tax structure a college chooses does not dictate the quality of education. It does show that high-risk students are high-risk students no matter the type of institution they attend. Mary Lyn Hammer Champion College Services
