13 TRENDS IN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES IN THE MIDWEST AND THE STATE OF OHIO While overall high school graduates will continue to decline in Ohio and the Midwest, the number of graduates of Hispanic ethnicity is projected to continue to increase. In fact, the State of Ohio is expected to see a larger increase in Hispanic graduates than many other Midwestern states. Source: Knocking at the College Door
14 With the decreasing support from states, public universities in the U.S. have increased tuition and have become more dependent upon tuition. BGSU has had a similar result. In short, strong enrollments have become more important. As competition has increased, universities have significantly increased institutional aid. Source: Education Advisory Board

BGSU will meet the educational, economic, and social challenges of our region, the State of Ohio, the nation and the world. Mission BGSU provides educational experiences inside and outside of the classroom that enhance the lives of our students, other stakeholders, and the many publics we serve. BGSU students are prepared for lifelong career growth, lives of engaged citizenship and leadership in a global society. Within our learning communities we build a welcoming, safe and diverse environment where creative ideas and entrepreneurial achievements can benefit to others throughout our region, the State of Ohio, the nation and the world. BGSU Strategic Goals BGSU has a comprehensive strategic plan that has seven goals. These seven goals focus on developing a unique UG educational experience, focused graduate and research programs, expanding regional and global partnerships, enhance a diverse and inclusive community, continue to improve the quality of life of our consistencies, and be efficient and effective in all that we do.
18 BGSU S ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO Historical Academic Strength Learning Science The Arts Leading and Managing Businesses and Organizations* BGSU Global Cultures Science, Sustainability and the Environment* Health and Wellness* * Designated as Center of Excellence by OBOR As a comprehensive university, BGSU has programs in many diverse fields. However, education (18.8%) continues to be the largest component of our academic portfolio.

21 BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE: EMERGING NEW ACADEMIC PROGRAMS Emerging Area New or Potential Academic Programs Unique Strengths Data Science Forensic Science Public Protective Services Media/ Communication Computing Technology UG programs in Business Analytics, Data Science: GRAD in Analytics UG forensic specializations in Chemistry, Biology, Criminal Justice Psychology and Digital (2015); GRAD in Forensic Science (2016) UG program in fire administration, UG and Grad programs in criminal justice. New programs could be developed in forensic investigation, homeland security management, cyber security and other related fields. UG program in advertising and PR: GRAD programs in strategic communications, social and interactive media, international communications UG specialization in software engineering, ABET accredited programs in engineering technology (pending) and GRAD programs in quality systems and engineering management BGSU has the second largest number of faculty in the State of Ohio focused on statistics and data science; Significant enrollment growth; significant growth in career opportunities projected State of Ohio has invested significant dollars in a research center for forensic science; new facility investment of the BCI crime lab BGSU has one of the few fire administration programs in the United States. Additionally, BGSU has a long tradition of programs in criminal justice. With the growth of forensic science, BGSU could be a leader in public safety areas. The renovation of South Hall provides the programs with cutting edge facilities; significant growth in career opportunities projected BGSU had the first department of computer science in Ohio. Heavy emphasis on Software and Security areas; significant growth in career opportunities projected Aviation UG in Aviation Management, flight training New classrooms and facilities as well as new flight school and international partnerships; significant growth in career opportunities projected Over the past four years, BGSU has developed programs in these areas that are in high demand. The majority of these programs are in the area of STEM, an area in which BGSU currently lags behind other Ohio public universities.
