2 Ice House Entrepreneurship Facilitator Training Program Lehigh Carbon Community College is pleased to host, as part of Entrepreneur, the Kauffman-sponsored Ice House Entrepreneurship Facilitator Training Program. A keynote presentation will be presented by Gary Schoeniger, Co-Founder/CEO, the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative. Backed by the support of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program is redefining entrepreneurship education in classrooms and communities across America and beyond. The Kauffman Foundation is the world s largest foundation dedicated to understanding the benefits of fostering entrepreneurship on a global scale. We have funded the largest collection of research on this topic as well as funding innovative programs and educational curriculum. said Thom Ruhe, Kauffman s VP of Entrepreneurship. The Ice House Entrepreneurship Program is our newest offering that is changing how entrepreneurship education is being taught throughout the world. This incredible new course focuses on the key beliefs and assumptions that drive entrepreneurial thinking and behavior. It encourages students to see opportunities where others do not, and to act on those opportunities. Built on a rigor and relevance framework, the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program was designed and developed by the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative as a two-part learning project designed to inspire and engage participants in the fundamental aspects of an entrepreneurial mindset and the unlimited opportunities it can provide. LCCC President Ann Bieber, in her Investiture speech, was quoted as saying, As many of you know, in August 2014, I signed the Presidents for Entrepreneurship Pledge for the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship, in which presidents of community colleges across the country commit to increase their focus on entrepreneurship and the impact their colleges have on the economic well-being of the communities they serve. Our economic growth depends upon the application of entrepreneurial theories, whether the business or department be big or small. I believe that entrepreneurship is at the very heart of every success story in business and industry. It is the core of the American Dream. Learn what an entrepreneurial mindset is and why it is important and how this program has been implemented as credit curriculum, student feedback, impact on retention, and JCCC s future plans. Understand how you can change the mindset of students. Learning Objectives: Understand what an entrepreneurial mindset is and why it is so important for the students and communities we serve. Review the development and implementation to date of the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program (IHEP) as well as the resulting impact on student engagement, learning and persistence. How do you change the perception of students who think they are not entrepreneurs to understanding that they are? Gary Schoeniger Keynote 11:30-12:30 Entrepreneurship: A Mindset Every Student Needs and the Workforce Demands In today s world, entrepreneurship is a mindset every student needs and the workforce demands. This session will define an entrepreneurial mindset and situational factors that influence or discourage entrepreneurial thinking and process. It will focus on entrepreneurship as a search process, rather than a managerial process, with application beyond enterprise creation, and how educating students to have an entrepreneurial mindset produces graduates with a competitive edge in the workforce. Participants will be engaged in case studies of individuals applying an entrepreneurial mindset in workforce context and will be immersed in the discovery canvas process identifying problems that need to be solved with proposed solutions. Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to define an entrepreneurial mindset and situational factors that influence or discourage entrepreneurial thinking and process. Participants will understand how educating students to have an entrepreneurial mindset produces graduates with a competitive edge in the workforce. Participants will understand the application of an entrepreneurial mindset in workforce context and be able to apply the discovery canvas process identifying problems that need to be solved with proposed solutions. 4 Gary Schoeniger The Business Enterprise Center (BEC), located in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) at Lehigh Carbon Community College s Main campus in Schnecksville, officially opened for business on September 17, The center was opened by LCCC s President Donald Snyder during the first annual Entrepreneurship Week which hosted the charged and motivational Extreme Bus Tour. OUR MISSION is to create a portal for students to enhance their entrepreneurship spirit in a practical way by offering ongoing consulting, training, technical, research and access to business planning services. OUR VISION is to be the vehicle through which students will access mentors and networking tools such as SCORE, SBA.Gov as well as other enterprises. Author and entrepreneur Gary Schoeniger has emerged as an internationally recognized thought leader in the field of entrepreneurial mindset education and training. Drawing from more than 15 years of research, Schoeniger has developed entrepreneurial education and training programs for academic, corporate, government, and non-government clients worldwide including the Cisco Entrepreneur Institute and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Schoeniger led the design and development of the Ice House Entrepreneurship Program through a partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Schoeniger, along with Pulitzer nominee Clifton Taulbert, is also the co-author of Who Owns The Ice House: Eight Life Lessons From An Unlikely Entrepreneur, an international bestseller described as required reading for humanity. OUR GOAL is to have a significant impact on Pennsylvania s local economy through enabling the establishment and viability of small businesses, the creation of jobs and taxable wealth.
