3 Mission Statement for JCCC s Center for Entrepreneurship The mission of JCCC s Center for Entrepreneurship is to increase economic prosperity in Kansas by training aspiring and existing entrepreneurs to research, plan, start and grow their businesses through classroom instruction, student organization activities professional consulting and management training workshops. 4 The Center for Entrepreneurship houses the offices of the entrepreneurship credit program faculty, the regional offices for the Kansas Small Business Development Center (KSBDC) consultants, the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) and a Resource Center. Entrepreneurs are crucial to a community s economic vitality because successful entrepreneurs develop innovative, growth, sustainable enterprises that create jobs and wealth. Community colleges are viewed as agents of local economic development the unsung heroes of higher education. Community colleges support their communities the logical by-product of an educated society is an economically successful society/community. 90% of community college students stay in their community. 21 Where we are Today: JCCC s History in Entrepreneurship Education Program-specific Entrepreneurship Certificates defined: Each of the program-specific Entrepreneurship Certificates averages ~ 34 credit hours (or ½ of an Associate s degree) Each certificate packages existing skill courses with existing Entrepreneurship credit courses Each certificate was developed in collaboration with the department chair of the skill program Each certificate contains ~75% of the credit hours in skill-based courses from the partnering department and ~25% of the credit hours in Entrepreneurship courses Certificates do not contain general education courses Orlando, Florida 21

On a national level, CEO connects over 30,000 students through chapters at colleges and universities. JCCC Collegiate Entrepreneur s Organization (CEO) offers support and encouragement for all JCCC students who are interested in developing entrepreneurial pursuits by providing social, educational and networking opportunities beyond the classroom. 25 The future of JCCC s Entrepreneurship Credit Programming The Accelerated Business Plan Certificate (7 credit hours) Existing approved certificate since 1994 Reinvented scheduling format from three stand-alone courses to one linked course number Designed to meet the demand of the Need to Reinvent Yourself audience who Needs the credit programming NOW Does not alter objectives or expectations of students because accelerated Student signs up for all three courses and may not opt in or out of individual courses creates one cohort of students Three Entrepreneurship faculty members; each course is graded and transcripted separately 3 credit courses: Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Opportunity Analysis, and FastTrac Business Plan Taught on 11 Fridays from 8am 5pm over a 14 week period in the same classroom Orlando, Florida 25
