2 BIG DATA IN BUSINESS Implement and use Big Data to your organization s advantage Location: IE Business School Campus in Madrid, Spain Duration: June 22-24, 2015, Monday-Wednesday 3 days, 9am to 6pm Investment: Overview Big Data the great volume, velocity and variety of available data that can be obtained today is the current buzzword in business, promising the discovery of new value and opportunities and the optimization of processes. However, the proper implementation of Big Data efforts remains a huge challenge: the high degree of management and decision-making skills needed to sort through complex data and the scarcity of Big Data and business analytics professionals are only some of the hurdles businesses face on their way to using Big Data to their utmost advantage. Big Data in Business seeks to help participants dig through and extract the essentials of Big Data and mentor them in its effective and optimal use as a tool to facilitate growth in their respective organizations. While the program contains interactive lectures, group exercises are also to be held on each day of the course to ensure that participants already start their Big Data implementation plans and in addition present and test these plans before a panel of experts. Program objectives The course aims to: 1) Aid course attendees understand what Big Data is and how it can benefit their organizations, jumping into many examples derived from the most active markets today 2) Provide enough business, regulatory and technological background as to a. Facilitate the launching of Big Data initiatives within their current organizations or launching new Big Data or analytics-based ventures. b. Encourage them to deepen in specific aspects of the business, technology or its applications to their industry c. Expand their managerial skill toolbox with the development of analytical capabilities This is not a technical course but a business course on Big Data and analytics. However, the course will cover some technology issues, as technology is a key driver in the Big Data and analytics business and as an understanding of the basic concepts and trends is needed. In the same vein, this approach is conceived and taught so that any interested person, irrespective of his/her former academic training, could easily follow the sessions and actively participate.
