Saturdays from 09:00 to 18:00 h. Dates: October 21 November 4, 5, 11, 12 December 2, 3, 9 Investing in leadership development is critical to achieve competitive advantage and long term growth. Few leaders stand out among the executive crowd. Leadership abilities can be learned. A good leader should be able to set priorities, communicate ideas and deliver results. To do this he must influence and inspire others around his vision of the future. Organizations and individuals respond well to articulated visions that are strategic, persuasive and measurable. This program will go into the crucial elements of organizational leadership: the nature of leadership, power and influence, managerial traits and skills, ethical and charismatic leadership, the development of leadership skills and organizational change. Grounded in the latest organizational leadership research the course trains participants using group dynamics and case discussions. By the end of the program each participant should be able to develop a personalized change plan based on individual results from the Birkman test. This change plan should be able to improve leadership effectiveness within organizational environments. This course is suitable for: Executives and enterpreneurs with more than 10 years of work experience. The course will be taught mostly in Spanish although a significant portion of reading materials will be in English. 3 ITAM Faculty José Luis Rivas Jose Luis is a full time professor and researcher at ITAM where he teaches leadership, managerial capabilities and global strategy. He is also in charge of the international business curricula at the MBA level. He is visiting professor at Tulane University and Associate Professor at IE business school in Spain. With 17 years of full time work experience he held different executive positions at Inverlat securities and Grupo ADO where he was a board member for 8 years. While at ADO he also lived in Chiapas and Oaxaca. Professor Rivas holds a PhD in management from IE business school in Spain, an MBA from the Kellogg school of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago and a Bachelors in Business Administration from Anahuac University in Mexico City. He is a certified Birkman consultant and a graduate from the International teachers program in the Bocconi business school edition in Milan. He is also member of the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business. His research interests delve around boards of directors and top management teams (TMTs). He specifically studies the individual attributes that lead firms to faster international expansions. His work Board Composition & firm internationalization was recognized as one of the best articles at the Academy of Management conference in Chicago 2009.He has also presented different articles at the Academy of International Business and at the European Group of Organizational Studies. His work has been accepted for publication in international scientific academic journals like the International Journal of Human Resource Management and International Business Review. 2
4 Kellogg Faculty Adam d. Galinsky Adam Galinsky is currently the Morris and Alice Kaplan Professor of Ethics and Decision in Management at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in Social Psychology and his B.A from Harvard University. Professor Galinsky has published more than 110 scientific articles, chapters, and teaching cases in the fields of management and social psychology. He has carried research and teaching focused on leadership, power, negotiations, decision-making, diversity, and ethics. His research has received national and international recognition from the scientific community. His dissertation received the Most Outstanding Dissertation from the International Association for Conflict Management. He has received grants from the National Science Foundation and the American Psychology Association. In 2006, he was the sole expert witness for a plaintiff who was awarded $37 million in damages in a defamation trial. His work on auctions was featured in the 2006 Ideas of the Year by the New York Times Magazine. In 2011, Professor Galinsky received the Ver Steeg Distinguished Research Fellowship at Northwestern University, which is awarded to one faculty member each year across the university. It supports the research of a Northwestern faculty member whose research and scholarship is so outstanding as to enhance the reputation of Northwestern both nationally and internationally. Professor Galinsky has twice won the Chair s Core Course teaching award at Kellogg for academic excellence on the topic of leadership. He teaches courses on Leadership in Organizations, Values-Based Leadership, Negotiations, Leading High-Performing Teams, and Research Methodology to MBA, executive, and doctoral audiences. He has consulted with and conducted executive workshops at Unilever, Abbott, the FBI, Hearst Publishing Company, Land O Lakes, Manpower, the Young President s Organization, The Ministry of Finance of Thailand, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Hilco Resources Merchant, Alliant Credit Union, Oil Dri, the City of Chapel Hill, NC, and the London Symphony Orchestra.Review. 3
5 Kellogg Faculty Harry M. Jansen Kraemer, Jr HARRY M. JANSEN KRAEMER, JR. is an executive partner with Madison Dearborn, a private equity firm based in Chicago, Illinois and a Clinical Professor of Management and Strategy at Northwestern University s Kellogg School of Management. He was named the 2008 Kellogg School Professor of the Year. Harry recently authored a leadership book entitled From Values to Action: The Four Principles of Values-Based Leadership. He is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Baxter International Inc., a $10 billion global healthcare company. He became Baxter s chief executive officer in January 1999, and assumed the additional responsibility of chairman of Baxter s board of directors in January Harry joined Baxter in 1982 as director of corporate development. His twenty three year career at Baxter included senior positions in both domestic and international operations. In 1993, he was named senior vice president and chief financial officer, responsible for financial operations, business development, global communications, and European operations. Over the next several years, he assumed additional responsibility for Baxter s Renal and Medication Delivery businesses. He was elected to Baxter s board of directors in 1995, and was named president of Baxter International Inc. in He is a member of the Dean s Advisory Board of Northwestern University s Kellogg School of Management, the Dean s Advisory Board of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Advisory Board of LEK Consulting. He is a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Executives Club of Chicago and the Economics Club of Chicago. He is a past member of the Business Roundtable, the Business Council, and the Healthcare Leadership Council. Harry graduated summa cum laude from Lawrence University of Wisconsin in 1977 with a bachelor s degree in mathematics and economics. He received an MBA degree in finance and accounting from Northwestern University s Kellogg School of Management in 1979 and is a certified public accountant. For his outstanding leadership and service, he received the 1996 Schaffner Award from the Kellogg School of Management. Harry enjoys jogging, tennis, skiing and reading, especially world civilization. Harry, his wife Julie, and their five children live in Wilmette, Illinois. 4
