2 Why study this programme? This programme will equip you with a range of skills used by quantity surveyors in order to provide the technical, legal, economic and managerial services demanded by the construction industry. Quantity surveyors are involved with construction projects at precontract stage, providing cost advice and forecasting together with the preparation of tender documents and contractual advice. At the post-contract stage their role becomes that of cost manager, including settlement of final accounts when projects have reached completion. Why study with us? Based in south-east London, within easy reach of some of the world s most iconic buildings, the School of Architecture, Design & Construction, part of the Faculty of Architecture, Computing & Humanities, offers an innovative and exciting learning environment. We draw on multidisciplinary teaching and research strengths in architecture, landscape architecture, design, property, surveying, and project and construction management. We offer a range of programmes starting at HNC/HND level, through honours degree to postgraduate qualifications. We have strong links with industry professionals and some of our students benefit from sponsorship. Many others take part-time and vacation work with local firms, enhancing their experience and career prospects. In today s rapidly changing job market, it is important to have a broad perspective on the roles and contributions of fellow professionals as well as obtaining your own discipline specialisms. You will gain both of these attributes as you study your degree with us. The school is currently located on our Avery Hill Campus, which is set in pleasant parkland in south-east London. Avery Hill has convenient transport links to our other campuses and to Kent and central London. In 2014, the school will move to the brandnew Stockwell Street building (pictured, far right) in the heart of historic Greenwich, complete with studio and living roof spaces, a model workshop, and digital design and animation suites. A contemporary library facility will provide staff and students with an
3 attractive, modern and flexible environment complete with cutting-edge technology and multimedia facilities supported by high-level network connectivity and wireless access. What will you study? You will develop construction-specific skills relating to: Construction technology and sustainability Health and safety Quantity surveying Measurement Project and construction management Contract administration and construction law Construction economics.
