3 Why study this programme? This multidisciplinary degree brings together aspects of chemistry, biology and cell biology. Courses are carefully tailored to provide students with knowledge in key fields such as gene therapy; drug design; genomics; proteomics; genetic engineering for plants, animals and micro-organisms; and bioinformatics. Through this programme, you will acquire a critical, analytical and flexible approach to problem solving. You will enhance your laboratory and professional competence and be able to work independently and use your initiative to solve diverse problems. You will also be able to bring creativity to the development and manufacture of biotechnology products. The programme has been designed to meet the needs of both UK and international students who require additional training relevant to their professional development. The broad range of skills and knowledge you will acquire is therefore intended to be readily transferrable to your own professional activities. Why study with us? The Department of Pharmaceutical, Chemical & Environmental Sciences, part of the Faculty of Engineering & Science, offers a diverse range of programmes underpinned by excellent teaching and world-class research. Our innovative degrees employ the very latest learning strategies and assessment techniques. They are designed to produce fully qualified graduates with all the skills necessary to secure employment. Each of our programmes has been developed in collaboration with industry and, where appropriate, is accredited by the relevant professional body. Teaching is delivered using a wide range of methods, including lectures, workshops, small group tutorials, practical sessions and fieldwork. An element of choice is built into each degree so students can tailor their learning experience to their particular interests. Each student is given regular feedback on his or her academic performance and is offered support through our excellent programme of pastoral care. Our students can therefore focus on their studies and have the best opportunity to flourish and excel in their chosen field. Our Medway Campus is in the rapidly developing area of Chatham Maritime in Kent. The campus is home to three universities, making it a vibrant place to work, study and relax. Facilities include cafés, a pub, a gym, a sports hall and halls of residence. Restaurants, bars, shops and a cinema are a short walk from the campus. Local attractions include Rochester, with its cathedral and castle, and Chatham s historic dockyard. Central London is less than an hour away by train. The Students Union University of Greenwich (suug.co.uk) and Greenwich and Kent Students Unions Together (gkunions. co.uk), a partnership between SUUG and the students union at the University of Kent, organise a variety of sports and social activities on campus and run a number of student societies.
