About the Organization: Working Wardrobes for a New Start is a nonprofit organization with a successful history of empowering men, women, young adults and Military Veterans overcoming difficult challenges to confidently enter the workforce and achieve self-sufficiency. We facilitate workforce development workshops year-round and Career Success Graduation events which include motivational seminars, grooming services, wardrobe selection and career fairs that are provided to adults in 50+ shelters and programs throughout Orange County. In addition, our Career Success network provides workforce readiness and professional wardrobing to adults year-round. Our corporate office in Costa Mesa boasts an office atmosphere that is business like, yet fun, with a focus on accomplishing an enormous amount of work each week. Working Wardrobes--a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a path for adults emerging from crises to reenter the workforce--is embarking on an exciting period of expansion in our services to military veterans, and we re now seeking a self-starter, with experience and skills in connecting homeless veterans to employment. As our VetNet Job Developer, your mission will be to work with local employers to identify jobs that pay competitive Formerly Volunteer Center Orange County OneOC 1901 E. 4 th Street, Suite 100 Santa Ana, California
2 wages and have long-term retention and career advancement potential for hard-to-place homeless or transitionally homeless clients, with a special emphasis on the military Veterans we serve. You will identify employers who are seeking Veterans as viable job candidates and key industries seeking their skills. You will also be responsible for developing permanent job leads, maintaining a job bank with entry-level, mid- and advanced-level job openings and directly connecting clients to employment. In addition, you will work with clients to identify their job skills, abilities and interests and match participants with appropriate positions for all their employment needs with the ultimate goal of connecting clients to full-time employment with long-term job retention, leading to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. You will fully support the veteran s job search by developing progressive referral relationships with employers in industries offering career paths matching our clients needs. As the VetNet Job Developer, you will identify high-growth industries and job opportunities in those industries, attend job fairs, and conduct employment-related workshops in groups and individualized settings to match client interest and skills for employment. You will work closely with the VetNet Case Manager and the entire VetNet team to identify specific barriers to employment for each client, provide input on IEP and Career Success plans, and maintain individual files. You will be required to update confidential client records regarding employment and retention status and perform regular follow-up procedures so integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality are critical skills for this position. You will also work with Working Wardrobes partner agencies to meet the goals of the federal grant, with the ultimate goal of stable employment and job retention leading to permanent housing for our clients. You will also have the opportunity to connect homeless Veterans to their Veteran benefits and other resources, including health, education, and employment. Reporting to our VetNet Program Director/Trainer, you will join the VetNet team of 4 along with 12 other staff members at our Costa Mesa Career Center. This is more than just a job development role, and in addition to your day-to-day responsibilities, we ll look to you to support the VetNet team. Your initial challenges will revolve around working with a newly expanded program within the parameters of a federal grant. You will be responsible for identifying new employer partners while managing a caseload of at least 100 clients over a one year timeframe. You will be inundated with numerous ad-hoc requests and will be flexible enough to constantly prioritize and reprioritize on a moment s notice to serve diverse stakeholders with differing needs. And you ll be continually scaling the learning curve as we re in a transitional period, evaluating new tools and processes to help serve our clients and achieve success. In a nutshell, you will spend about 80%of your time in Job Development w/employers; another 15% in Job Development w/clients; and the remaining 5% in supporting VetNet Program and Grant Reporting. 3 During the year, you ll focus on achieving the following objectives within each key area of responsibility: 1. Job Development Employers Develop and maintain relationships with employers and companies within and outside of the local community that are appropriate for enrolled clients Identify key industries and employment opportunities as defined in the federal grant Develop curriculum and conduct employer training for hiring veterans Keep current on employer benefits available in hiring Veterans Maintain an employment / job development database Coordinate and facilitate job club meetings Make referrals to, and maintain relationships with support services, additional training programs, and outside agencies as based on participant needs Participate in partner meetings Research employers, veterans benefits, and employment statistics Assist with workforce development workshops and training programs Assist with case management 2. Job Development Clients Assist Case Manager with assigned case load as related to employment and provide feedback to the Case Manager and Program Director regarding participants progress Participate in staff meetings, required trainings and other programs as requested Assist in program evaluation Assist in development and coordination of special assignments and programs Maintain a professional attitude, confidentiality, and respect for cultural differences Occasionally accompany groups to Job Fairs, Stand Down events and canvassing companies that offer job application opportunities for mass groups Ability to work with clients and peers in a respectful, professional and motivational manner Able to occasionally flex schedule to accommodate programmatic needs Able to maintain scheduled appointments with clients, peers and supervisor 3. Ability to see the big picture - Although the Federal Grant objective is to expedite the reintegration of 100 homeless and chronically homeless Veterans into the labor force, Working Wardrobes is committed to empowering all of our clients to confidently enter the workforce and achieve self-sufficiency. Qualifications: At least three years job developer, outreach, or nonprofit experience Your experience working with military Veterans and individuals with diverse ethnic backgrounds along with a strong foundational understanding of military culture, rank structure and organizational structure, as well as a strong understanding of the deployment and re-integration cycle Familiarity with Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA) Excellent customer service skills as well as a strong desire to assist Veterans and work collaboratively with employers and partner agencies to achieve success The ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals Your strong interpersonal, writing and verbal skills along with excellent telephone etiquette and a friendly, yet professional demeanor Your excellent communication and organizational skills along with excellent communication skills and a solid knowledge of telephone and etiquette and a friendly demeanor are required for success in this position A proven ability to work well both independently and as part of a team Career counseling experience including services referral, career/job searching, resume building and vocational rehabilitation programs is a plus Bilingual English/Spanish a plus The ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals Formerly Volunteer Center Orange County 4
