Introduction This document describes how to configure and use Microsoft s Remote Desktop via Massey University s Virtual Private Networking (VPN) for computers running Microsoft Windows Vista. Once you ve followed the steps below, you will be able to connect to your work computer from both international and national locations. This guide assumes a basic knowledge of how to operate a computer running Windows Vista and concentrates on the special aspects of using this service. Prerequisites To make use of the Massey VPN Service you will need: To be registered for Virtual Private Network (VPN). If you are not registered please complete the following online form before continuing any further: http://its-intra-db.massey.ac.nz/intranet/infrastructure/remacc/vpn_application.cgi Access to a computer with an existing internet connection (see Minimum Requirements). To be familiar with the Massey University Policy on the Use of Information Communication & Processing Systems, a copy of which can be found at http://its-intra.massey.ac.nz/policies/policyuse.htm. Minimum Requirements Due to the amount of information/data that is transferred when connecting to a Massey University computer, it is recommended that machines not connected to a network use at least a 33.6kbps modem. For optimum performance a v.90 56kbps modem or other high speed internet connection (e.g. Broadband) is highly recommended.
