American Senior School offers industry certification as a Daycare Asst., Nursing Asst., EKG Tech., Medical Adm. Asst., Computer Automated Designer, Photoshop, Autodesk Inventor, and Dreamweaver! American Senior High School has 7 functioning academies (Academy of Biomedical Careers ABC, Academy of Hospitality and Tourism: AOHT, Academy of Information Technology and Business: AOIT, Engineering Academy for Student Excellence: EASE, Fine Arts Academy, Law Studies Academy, and Freshman Academy (PALS)
Advanced International Certification of Education (AICE)/Cambridge CRITERIA Incoming 9th graders who want to be considered for the AHS AICE/Cambridge Program must submit an application to their counselor to be reviewed. They will be evaluated according to the following criterion:! Grades (3.0 GPA)! FCAT Scores (3 or above) or comparable national examinations! Teacher recommendations (one each from English, Math, and Science)! Current math placement and grade (Algebra I or above)! Conduct records and Attendance records! Students must maintain a 3.0 un-weighted GPA while in the AICE/Cambridge program as well as score 3 or above on all FCAT components.

Title I status means more money in our school to expand our programs and activities to provide the best educational experience for your teen. How does a school qualify to become a Title I school? To qualify for funding during the 2013-2014 school year, a school had to have 75% or more of its student population receive free or reduced lunch.

PARENTAL TIPS for STUDENT SUCCESS Every parent wants his/her child to grow up to be a healthy, happy, and a successful adult. Parents are very important to their child s development. Here are some ideas to help you ensure you child s success in school.! Get to know your child s teachers and counselors! Make sure your child gets enough sleep so that he/she will be alert in school.! Make sure that your child attends school each day.! Encourage your child to behave in school.! Praise your child for good work, good effort, and good behavior at home and at school.! Leave large amounts of money or valuables at home! Keep all electronic devices at home except for School Board Approved electronic devices! MOST IMPORTANTLY, monitor the Parent Portal and check your child s electronic grade book in order to be up to date on your their academic performance.
