THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA COLLEGE OF NURSING AND IOWA ASSOCIATION OF NURSE PRACTITIONERS 2015 Annual Spring Nurse Practitioner Conference Celebrating 50 Years of Nurse Practitioner Practice Thursday and Friday, April 30 and May 1, 2015 Holiday Inn Coralville, Iowa STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Please join us in a celebration of nurse practitioner practice! This conference will celebrate 50 years of advanced practice nursing in the United States and 40 years of advanced practice in Iowa. Our celebration would not be complete without our distinguished guest, Dr. Loretta Ford, whose leadership and vision has lead nurse practitioners to where they are today. We are honored that Dr. Ford has agreed to participate as our keynoter and in a special dinner celebrating this milestone anniversary. In addition to Dr. Ford s keynote address the first day s content will offer topics of interest to nurse practitioners in all specialties. Content will include an update on the IOM advanced practice task force, a legislative update, risk management for medical records, and CPT coding. The second day s content will focus specifically on pediatric topics including an update on MRSA infections, practical applications of genomics in clinical care, information about the Child and Youth Psychiatric Consult project for enhancing psychiatric services, sex trafficking, irritable bowel syndrome and use and misuse of bronchodilators. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this offering participants should be able to: 1. Discuss the past, present and future of nurse practitioner practice in the United States over the past 50 years. 2. Discuss evolving models of health care delivery and their impact on education, practice and policy. 3. Describe the various roles and accomplishments of the IOM Iowa advanced practice task force in educating others about the role of nurse practitioners. 4. Identify recent legislative bills and other issues affecting nurse practitioner practice in Iowa and nationally. 5. Identify risk management strategies for advanced practice documentation. 6. Discuss CPT coding strategies that can optimize reimbursement for the advanced practice nurse. 7. Discuss the clinical assessment and management of MRSA infections in children. 8. Examine practical applications of genomics in primary care practice. 9. Discuss the Child and Youth Psychiatric Consult Project of Iowa and its implications for improving psychiatric services in primary care. 10. Describe the short and long-term physical and mental healthcare consequences for victims of sex trafficking. 11. Describe the diagnostic and treatment approaches to abdominal pain in children. 12. Discuss the primary care guidelines for the management of bronchiolitis.

CONFERENCE LOCATION AND ACCOMMODATIONS The conference will be held at the Coralville Holiday Inn, Exit 242, Interstate 80, in Coralville, Iowa. A block of rooms has been reserved for conference participants for the nights of April 29 and 30th. Room rate per night is $94.00 plus tax. Reservations must be made by March 30 to guarantee the conference rate. SPECIAL CONFERENCE OPPORTUNITIES Conference participants are invited to attend a special celebratory dinner following the close of Thursday s program. Special guest Dr. Loretta Ford will join in the celebration of 40 years of advanced practice nursing in Iowa. The dinner reservation is a separate fee from the conference registration. A fun walk is scheduled for Friday morning. Participants wishing to participate are invited to bring their walking shoes and meet at the conference center at 7:00 a.m. to begin the walk. CONTINUING EDUCATION AWARD The University of Iowa College of Nursing is an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider: Number 1. Full-time attendance will award 14.9 contact hours or 1.49 CEUs. April 30 only participation = 7.7 contact hours; May 1 only participation awards 7.2 contact hours. Application has been made to NAPNAP for 12.4 contact hours for the 2015 Spring Nurse Practitioner Conference. REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS If an applicant withdraws registration prior to the opening of the conference, the registration fee, less a $25.00 handling charge will be refunded. No refunds will be made after the conference has convened. Although rarely necessary, we reserve the right to cancel the program due to lack of sufficient enrollment.
