Intrductin Overview The HP BladeSystem c-class Virtual Cnnect Supprt Utility enables administratrs t upgrade VC-Enet and VC-FC firmware, and t perfrm ther maintenance tasks remtely n bth HP BladeSystem c-class c7000 and c3000 Enclsures using a standalne cmmand line utility. When the utility initiates a firmware upgrade prcess, all mdules are updated at the same time. The utility displays a prgress message indicating that an update is in prgress and the percentage cmpleted. After the mdule firmware updates are cmplete, the utility activates all f the mdules. Using HP-UX When using HP-UX, use the swinstall cmmand t install the utility. Example cmmand line: swinstall -s /tmp/dwnlad vcsu where "/tmp/dwnlad" is the lcal directry that cntains the dwnladed "vcsu.dept". Requirements A supprted perating system must be installed n the client: Micrsft Windws XP (Service Pack 1 r 2) Windws Vista Windws Server 2003, 2008 HP-UX 11.23 and 11.31 Linux (Red Hat 4, Red Hat 5, SLES 10, SLES 11) T run VCSU, the minimum, required, available free disk space is 600 MB per install instance. Fr example, if yu run VCSU three times in parallel against three different enclsures, yu must have apprximately 1.8GB f available disk space. When upgrading frm Virtual Cnnect 4Gb FC mdule versin 1.31 r earlier, users must have Administrative r Pwer User privileges n the client system t install and run the utility. A valid HP Virtual Cnnect firmware package must be available t install. Dwnlad the firmware frm the HP website (http://www.hp.cm/g/bladesystemupdates). View the BladeSystem fr PrLiant Release Set Cmpatibility Table and select the apprpriate dwnlad. D nt clse the cnsle applicatin when a firmware update is in prgress. If the applicatin is clsed befre the update cmpletes, the mdule firmware might nt update prperly, causing the mdule firmware t be inperative. Intrductin 4

An Onbard Administratr user accunt with Administrative privileges and access t all Onbard Administratrs and intercnnect bays must be available fr use. If the enclsure is imprted int a Virtual Cnnect dmain, a Virtual Cnnect user accunt with Dmain privileges is als required. The user must have Ethernet netwrk cnnectivity between the client system and the enclsure Onbard Administratr. T validate this cnnectivity, pen a web brwser t the enclsure Onbard Administratr befre running the utility. The user must have Ethernet netwrk cnnectivity between the client system and the intercnnect mdules in the enclsure. Add the Virtual Cnnect Supprt Utility applicatin t the list f exceptins fr any hst-based firewall n the client if yu d nt have a healthy Backup VCM mdule. N firewalls can exist between the client system and the remte enclsure Onbard Administratr if yu d nt have a healthy Backup VCM mdule. If a firewall exists, and it is blcking prts, then the utility cannt pen a cnnectin with the remte mdules t perfrm the update. Onbard Administratr firmware v1.30 r higher is required fr crrect VCSU peratin. Only ne instance f the VC Supprt Utility accessing a single enclsure can be run n a single client at ne time. During firmware update peratins, the mdules are unavailable fr use. Any attempt t reset r remve the mdules during the update prcess culd result in a crrupted firmware image. In additin, d nt reset the Onbard Administratr f the target enclsure r update its firmware while VC mdules are being updated. Ding s can interfere with the firmware update prcess and cause it t fail. During the firmware update prcess, cnnectivity thrugh the mdules, which might be hsted t servers in the enclsure, can be interrupted temprarily. During a firmware update sessin, nly use a single client t update mdules in a specific remte enclsure. Using multiple clients t interface remtely with the same enclsure can interrupt the firmware update prcess and prevent it frm cmpleting successfully. If the firmware update client is interrupted r lses netwrk cnnectivity during the update, reset the affected mdule and restart the firmware update prcess. VCSU supprts nly IPv4 addresses. IPv6 supprt is nt yet available. In a multi-enclsure envirnment, the Onbard Administratr username and passwrd must be identical acrss the lcal and all remte enclsures in the Virtual Cnnect dmain. Otherwise, firmware update f the remte enclsures des nt succeed. Restrictins and limitatins A VCSU update peratin can be perfrmed frm a server blade in the same enclsure that is being updated. Hwever, this feature is nly supprted when using a redundant netwrk cnfiguratin n the server blade running the VCSU client. This versin f VCSU supprts c3000 and c7000 enclsures. The utility des nt update mdules that are nt physically present, are pwered ff, r are nn-functinal. A status message indicates if any mdules are in these states. The utility des nt update unknwn r unsupprted mdule types, including pass-thru Ethernet and FC mdules. HTTP and HTTPS dwnlads are restricted t nn-authenticated websites. Intrductin 5

FTP dwnlads are restricted t nn-ssl/tls, Passive Transfer Mde FTP sites. Any IP addresses that are nt accessible timeut within 20 secnds. Any IP addresses that have an active SSL enabled web server, but nt an OA, fail immediately. Only IPv4 addresses are supprted in this release. Cmmand line syntax Usage CLI input is case-insensitive except when therwise nted. The general CLI syntax is as fllws: vcsu -a <cmmand> Parameters are extensins that prvide extra infrmatin required fr the executin f a particular cmmand. Whether r nt a parameter is required depends n the specific actin being executed. Fr example, the versin cmmand includes parameters fr IP address, username, and passwrd. The syntax is as fllws: vcsu -a versin -i <IP> -u <USER> -p <PWD> NOTE: When entering a username frm a Linux cmmand shell with the dmain\username frmat, use qutatin marks arund the username ("dmain\username") s it is nt expanded by the Linux shell. T display all mdules and their current firmware versin, enter the fllwing: vcsu -a versin -i 192.168.1.100 -u Administratr -p passwrd T install and run the HP BladeSystem c-class Virtual Cnnect Supprt Utility: 1. Install the applicatin n the client system by running the MSI file. 2. After the prgram is installed, click Start>Prgrams>Hewlett-Packard>Virtual Cnnect Supprt Utility t start a cnsle.
