C H A P T E R 1 Welcme Glbal Server Netwrk (GSN) ptin The Bridgit Glbal Server Netwrk (GSN) is a netwrk f Bridgit servers at different gegraphical lcatins. The GSN ptimizes bandwidth and reduces latency by detecting the fastest server in each GSN and then autmatically cnnecting the client t that server, regardless f the server they initially cnnected t. Fr example, if there are five clients in Nrth America and five clients in Eurpe all cnnecting t the same meeting, and the GSN cnsists f ne server n each cntinent, each client autmatically cnnects t the nearest, fastest server. This results in nly ne high latency verseas cnnectin, instead f five verseas cnnectins. A GSN wrks just as well fr different buildings in the same city, r even different netwrks in the same building. Bridgit client sftware Bridgit client sftware transmits meeting data t and frm the Bridgit server and displays it t the meeting participants. It is integrated with SMART Meeting Pr sftware r SMART Ntebk cllabrative learning sftware. Features and highlights f Bridgit client sftware include the fllwing: Share multiple displays with lcal and remte participants Share applicatins running n yur SMART Bard interactive whitebard r cmputer desktp with meeting participants Hst live dems, presentatins, training events, webinars and ad hc cllabrative sessins Share and wrk n meeting ntes simultaneusly with remte participants Help clleagues and custmers navigate Internet and intranet sites Request permissin t remtely cntrl a meeting participant s cmputer View ff-site meeting participants using webcams Speak with, and listen t, meeting participants using Vice ver Internet Prtcl (VIP) technlgy 2 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

C H A P T E R 2 Installing Bridgit sftware Preparing fr installatin Bridgit sftware is scalable, s system requirements vary. The maximum number f users that a server can supprt is cnstrained by bth the server hardware and the netwrk bandwidth available t that server. The exact number f users supprted varies depending n the available bandwidth and the use f Vice ver Internet Prtcl (VIP) audi and webcam functinality. Allwing mre than the recmmended number f simultaneus users may negatively impact perfrmance. T supprt mre users, cnfigure multiple servers t perate as a Glbal Server Netwrk (GSN). N O T E S T determine the amunt f bandwidth yu need, see Bandwidth requirements n page 53. Yur system perfrms best if yu use a high perfrmance server r a dedicated server with n ther applicatins installed. Cmputer requirements Bridgit server sftware requirements Each server must meet the fllwing minimum requirements: 3.1 GHz quad-cre prcessr 4 GB f RAM Windws Server 2003, 2008 R2 r 2012 (32-bit r 64-bit) perating system 250 Mbps netwrk interface card (NIC) that supprts TCP/IP N O T E S 1 Gbps NIC is recmmended. Increased hardware capabilities imprve verall meeting perfrmance. The recmmended maximum number f pen micrphnes with this cnfiguratin is 100. SMART Scheduler Outlk add-in requirements 2 GHz prcessr 1 GB f RAM Micrsft Outlk 2007, 2010 r 2013 Netwrk cnnectin t yur Micrsft Exchange Server and Bridgit server Sftware licensing After the 60-day free evaluatin perid, users can n lnger cnduct meetings n the server and must purchase and activate a sftware license. T cntinue using the sftware after the evaluatin perid, yu need t purchase a license befre the evaluatin perid expires. When yu purchase a license a Bridgit sftware license, yu re purchasing a server license fr up t 500 cncurrent users and yu receive ne prduct key. Supprted virtualizatin envirnment Bridgit sftware supprts VMware vsphere Hypervisr 4.1. Access requirements Befre yu can successfully install and use a Bridgit server sftware, yu must crrectly cnfigure yur netwrk envirnment. Bridgit server sftware desn t autmatically d this. Therefre, yu need access t varius cmpnents f yur netwrk infrastructure befre yu can cnfigure yur netwrk envirnment apprpriately. 8 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

C H A P T E R 2 Installing Bridgit sftware Netwrk administratin experience I M P O R T A N T Bridgit server sftware functins in a cmplex netwrk envirnment. D nt attempt t install r cnfigure the Bridgit server sftware unless yu re an experienced netwrk administratr with a full understanding f hw yur netwrk functins. Access t servers and infrastructure cmpnents n yur netwrk Different netwrk cnfiguratins use different types f access. Netwrk cnfiguratin Private lcal area netwrk (LAN) use Use by different netwrks cnnected t a wide area netwrk (WAN) Use by clients with an Internet cnnectin Type f access If yur Bridgit server will be used nly in a private LAN, yu need access t the fllwing cmpnents f yur LAN infrastructure: An administratr lgin accunt with installatin rights fr the server cmputer yu ll install Bridgit server sftware n. Physical r remte lgin access, and an administratr lgin accunt with cnfiguratin rights, fr yur netwrk s DHCP and DNS servers. Yu culd als need physical r remte lgin access t, and an administratr lgin accunt with cnfiguratin rights fr, yur netwrk s dmain server which cntrls the sftware firewall cnfiguratins fr all f yur netwrk s client cmputers. This is dependent n yur lcal netwrk s dmain plicies. If yur Bridgit server will be used by different netwrks cnnected t a WAN, yu ll need access t the fllwing cmpnents f yur LAN r WAN infrastructure: Physical r remte lgin access t, and an administratr lgin accunt with cnfiguratin rights fr, the ruters, WAN firewalls, and prxy servers between different segments f yur WAN. Physical r remte lgin access t, and an administratr lgin accunt with cnfiguratin rights fr, all DNS servers in each segment f yur WAN. If yur Bridgit server will be accessible t clients via the Internet, yu need access t the fllwing cmpnents: Physical r remte lgin access t, and an administratr lgin accunt with cnfiguratin rights fr, the ruters, firewalls and prxy servers between yur netwrk and the Internet. Lgin access with cnfiguratin rights t the Internet registrar which cntrls yur cmpany s public Internet DNS recrds. 9 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

C H A P T E R 2 Installing Bridgit sftware Netwrk cnfiguratin Use f SMART Scheduler Type f access If yu want t use the Bridgit Outlk add-in and SMART Scheduler integratin with Micrsft Exchange, yu need physical r remte lgin access t, and an administratr lgin accunt with cnfiguratin rights fr, yur cmpany s dmain server. This server is used t create user accunts fr use n yur Micrsft Exchange server. Administratr rights After yu install and cnfigure Bridgit server sftware, yu may want t administer the server t check infrmatin such as perfrmance lgs and use recrds. T d this, yur administratr needs physical r remte lgin access and a user lgin accunt n the Bridgit server cmputer. Security Bridgit sftware cmplies with Secure Sckets Layer (SSL) 3.0 t encrypt data transmitted using a TCP cnnectin. It uses OpenSSL t generate a self-signed SSL certificate used fr data encryptin. Each time the server starts, it generates a new 1024-bit SSL certificate and negtiates a new 256-bit encryptin key with each client. Hwever, if a client is unable t negtiate a set f encryptin keys with the server, n cnnectin is established. Bridgit sftware als uses Secure Real-time Transprt Prtcl (SRTP) t encrypt audi traffic transmitted using a UDP cnnectin. These encryptins prevent third parties frm intercepting data transmitted between client and server. The cipher suite negtiated between a Windws perating system server and client is an AES256- SHA cipher suite, including RSA encrypted key exchange, digest authenticatin and 256-bit SSL data encryptin. Bridgit sftware fr Mac OS X perating system sftware als implements 256-bit SSL encryptin. Passwrds System administratrs and meeting creatrs can set fur types f passwrds t enhance Bridgit sftware security. These passwrds aren t mandatry. I M P O R T A N T If yu assign a server access passwrd, SMART recmmends that yu als assign a meeting creatin passwrd. 10 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

C H A P T E R 2 Installing Bridgit sftware Passwrd type Server access passwrd Descriptin An ptinal passwrd that a meeting participant uses when cnnecting t a Bridgit server. The server access passwrd allws the participant t access the server and view the list f meetings n it. I M P O R T A N T If yu assign a server access passwrd, yu shuld als assign a meeting creatin passwrd. Meeting creatin passwrd An ptinal passwrd that a meeting wner uses t create a meeting n the Bridgit server. Users wh type the meeting creatin passwrd can als see the list f active meetings n the server. N O T E After yu install Bridgit server sftware, yu can use SMART Bridgit Administratin Tls t create additinal server access and meeting creatin passwrds. Meeting passwrd Administratr access passwrd A passwrd that a meeting participant uses t jin a meeting. The meeting creatr sets this passwrd. A passwrd that server administratrs creates t jin any meeting n the server. Administratrs can then mnitr meetings and ensure the server is being used apprpriately. Dmain names If yu re using a public dmain name, yur Bridgit server is accessible t clients cnnecting via the Internet. If yu use a private dmain name, yur Bridgit server is accessible nly t clients cnnecting frm within yur LAN. Registered dmain name T access a server ver the Internet, yu must use a fully qualified dmain name (FQDN) that exists in the recrds f a public DNS server. If an FQDN isn t available fr yur server, users can access yur server ver the Internet using its IP address directly. I M P O R T A N T D nt mix FQDNs and unqualified dmain names (thse nt registered n a DNS server) in the same Bridgit server GSN. 11 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

C H A P T E R 2 Installing Bridgit sftware IPv4/IPv6 addresses During the installatin prcess, Bridgit sftware detects the IP addresses bund t the servers netwrk interface cards. Yu can chse t bind Bridgit sftware t ne r all f the cmputers IP addresses, if there is mre than ne IP address assigned t the cmputer. T check if yur public dmain name reslves t an IP address 1. Select Start > Run n the cmputer where yu ll install the Bridgit server sftware. 2. Type cmd, and then press ENTER. A Cmmand Prmpt dialg bx appears. 3. Use the ipcnfig cmmand t determine the server s IP address. 4. Use either the nslkup cmmand r the ping cmmand against the dmain name fr the Bridgit server t determine the IP address that the netwrk s DNS returns. 5. Cmpare this IP address t the Bridgit server s IP address frm step 3. If the IP addresses are the same, the netwrk s DNS is cnfigured crrectly. N O T E S Yur dmain name must reslve t a valid IP address fr yu t be able t use it t cnfigure yur Bridgit server. The ping can fail fr reasns unrelated t the public dmain name and still reslve t a cmputer name r IP address. Bridgit and firewalls Bridgit sftware autmatically detects and emplys the mst secure and efficient methds available t cnnect clients and t maintain ptimal meeting perfrmance. Hwever, SMART recmmends installing yur Bridgit server behind a firewall t prevent unauthrized access. The firewall must pen prt 80 fr HTTP traffic cming int the server and ging ut t the client. N O T E SMART desn t recmmend deplying Bridgit servers with nly HTTP cnnectivity. 12 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

C H A P T E R 2 Installing Bridgit sftware Cnfiguring firewalls Yu can install yur Bridgit server sftware behind a sftware firewall, prxy server, hardware firewall r ruter. Fr ptimal perfrmance, enable bth primary and secndary TCP prts and a range f UDP prts fr VIP audi n the server. Firewalls fr the server shuld allw inbund cmmunicatin t the server n all specified prts. Firewalls fr the client shuld allw utbund cmmunicatin frm the client n all specified prts. Fr best perfrmance, allw inbund TCP and UDP traffic t the server n the default prts specified in the fllwing table. Default prts Type/prtcl Use 80 TCP/HTTP Initial cnnectin t the Bridgit server t display the web page frm which the users dwnlad the Bridgit client. Initial cnnectin t the Bridgit server frm the Bridgit client when lking fr meetings t jin r when creating new meetings. Fallback cmmunicatin methd fr all ther Bridgit functins when ther prts are unavailable (lwer perfrmance than ther prts). 80 TCP/Bridgit Primary prt fr data, screen viewing and webcam traffic fr Bridgit meetings. If this prt is limited t nly HTTP, Bridgit sftware attempts t use the secndary prt (9933) fr this traffic. If this prt is blcked r unavailable, Bridgit sftware uses HTTP n the primary prt, which can affect perfrmance. 9933 TCP/Bridgit Secndary prt fr data, screen viewing and webcam traffic fr Bridgit meetings. 9901 t 9920 UDP/Bridgit Primary prt range fr VIP audi traffic fr Bridgit meetings. If these prts are blcked r unavailable, Bridgit sftware falls t TCP r HTTP n the primary r secndary prt, which can negatively affect perfrmance. Cnfiguring prxy servers Yu can cnfigure yur Bridgit server sftware t wrk with any prxy server that adheres t the RFC 2068 HTTP standard. If yu install yur Bridgit server sftware behind a prxy server, yu must create access plicy rules fr inbund and utbund traffic n that prxy server. Yu can further enhance yur netwrk security by enabling authenticatin, such as basic, digest r NT LAN Manager (NTLM) authenticatin. 13 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

C H A P T E R 2 Installing Bridgit sftware N O T E Althugh prxy servers prtect internal netwrks frm intruders, they unavidably intrduce netwrk latency. If yu incrprate a prxy server, cnfigure each meeting participant s Internet brwser t allw access t the Bridgit server. Installing Bridgit server sftware When yu install Bridgit server sftware, cnsider the fllwing pints: If yu install Bridgit server sftware n a dedicated server with ne netwrk interface card (NIC), select All (default) t bind Bridgit t all IP addresses. If yur netwrk uses netwrk address translatin (NAT), use prt frwarding t redirect external requests t the NIC. If the server is multi-hmed (has multiple NICs), select the internal IP address t bind Bridgit t the internal NIC. Use prt frwarding t redirect external requests t the external NIC. If yu install Bridgit server sftware n a server running ther web server applicatins (fr instance, Micrsft IIS r any ther web server applicatin using prt 80), yu can cnfigure Bridgit in either f the fllwing ways: Using IP specific binding. Each server binds t a specific IP address. Yu can add multiple IP addresses t a single NIC n Windws servers by selecting Cntrl Panel > Netwrk Cnnectins > Internet Prtcl (TCP/IP). Custmizing the default primary server prt. In this case, multiple applicatins can bind t the same IP address but n different prts. Screen capture technlgy This sectin prvides an verview f the varius technlgies that Bridgit sftware uses when yu share yur desktp during a meeting. Bridgit sftware uses the fllwing three types f technlgy t share screens during a meeting. Type f technlgy Mirrr drivers Descriptin Bridgit sftware attempts t use this sharing methd first because it ffers the best perfrmance. It requires an installatin which is autmatically dne if yu have administratr rights. N O T E Mirrr drivers behave unexpectedly n cmputers with Windws 7 perating systems. 56 smarttech.cm/kb/170397

A P P E N D I X A Trubleshting Type f technlgy Redraw hks Descriptin Bridgit sftware reverts t using redraw hks if it can t use mirrr drivers. Redraw hks are autmatically dwnladed frm the server when needed and perfrm a screen capture every time smething changes n the screen. N O T E Redraw hks behave unexpectedly n cmputers with Windws 7 perating systems. Fur times per secnd capture If Bridgit sftware can t use either f the abve technlgies, it captures the shared screen fur times per secnd, cmpresses the image, and then sends it t the recipient. This methd ffers the lwest perfrmance, but it uses the lwest bandwidth. Use the ptins utlined in this sectin t reslve issues with sharing speed and image quality. Field/ptin Descriptin When t use / why it s imprtant Presenting status Displays either Nt currently presenting r the methd f screen capture in use: Capturing screen 4 times per secnd (display 0) Using RedrawHks.dll (display 0) Using mirrr driver (display 0) Hardware acceleratin status Mirrr driver availability Indicates whether hardware acceleratin is n r ff. available The mirrr driver is installed. unavailable The mirrr driver isn t installed. disable by OS Yur cmputer has Windws 7, which causes the mirrr driver t behave unexpectedly. Hwever, yu might be able t imprve the cnnectin between yur LAN and yur Internet Service Prvider (ISP). Yu can try these ptins: Read the specificatins f yur server and client cmputer Ethernet card thrughput rates. Als, check yur netwrk device rates. If they re lw, upgrade the hardware. Verify that yur Internet transmit and receive speeds match the speed guaranteed by yur ISP. Verifying cmmunicatin prtcl Bridgit sftware uses three types f netwrk prtcls: TCP fr data and vide UDP fr VIP audi HTTP if a client is unable t cnnect t the server using TCP Cmmunicatins using TCP and UDP have lwer netwrk delays than thse using HTTP prtcl, and using them helps t prevent latency issues. Use Bridgit sftware s trubleshting tl t determine the netwrk prtcl yu re using. See Using the Bridgit trubleshting tl n page 56. Ensure that values appear in the TCP Prt and UDP Prt fields. If these fields have N/A in them, r if the Prxy Cnnectin ptin is selected, cntact yur administratr t pen the TCP and UDP prts t cnnect t the Bridgit server. A P P E N D I X A Trubleshting Checking fr firewalls T determine if the client is behind a firewall 1. On the client cmputer, pen the Bridgit trubleshting tl. See Using the Bridgit trubleshting tl n page 56. The Cnnectin area displays the prts and prtcls the client cmputer is using t cmmunicate with the server. If a client is cmmunicating thrugh a prxy server r if the client s UDP and secndary TCP prts are blcked by a firewall, the Prxy Cnnectin check bx is selected. 2. Cntact yur administratr t pen the TCP and UDP prts t cnnect t the Bridgit server. Measuring latency and packet lss Packet lss ccurs when ne r mre packets f data traveling acrss a cmputer netwrk fail t reach their destinatin. Packet lss rates depend n factrs including bandwidth, cmmunicatin path reliability and ruter buffer size. When packets are lst, latency increases as the netwrk devices try t recver the infrmatin. Windws perating systems include the PathPing tl t measure packet lss rate and latency. PathPing sends packets t each ruter n the path t a destinatin fr an interval, and then it cmputes results based n the packets returned frm each hp. Since PathPing shws hw much packet lss is seen fr any ruter r link, yu can determine which ruters r links are causing netwrk prblems. Fr mre infrmatin n using PathPing t determine netwrk latency and packet lss, see the Micrsft website.
