Lcating installatin and supprting files Befre yu can custmize r deply SMART sftware, yu must decide which type f file t use fr the installatin, and then lcate the installatin and supprting files. Select ne f the fllwing available installatin file types. Cmplete installer, als knwn as an executable (EXE) file Installatin package, als knwn as an MSI file Lcating the cmplete installer The cmplete installer (als knwn as an EXE file) cntains all sftware and prerequisite third-party sftware in a single, executable file. The cmplete installer (SMART Educatin Sftware.exe) is lcated n the DVD in [DVD drive]\smart Educatin Sftware.exe. Yu can run the dtnetfx451_full_setup.exe file t install all required Micrsft.NET Framewrk prerequisites and the Micrsft.NET Framewrk 4 Client Prfile files. Hwever, SMART recmmends that yu dwnlad the latest versin f the Micrsft.NET Framewrk files frm the Micrsft website. Fr infrmatin n deplying the Micrsft.NET Framewrk, refer t the.net Framewrk deplyment guide fr administratrs n the MSDN website (msdn.micrsft.cm/en-us/library/ee aspx). Internet cnnectin is required t dwnlad and install the full.net package. The third-party installatin packages are lcated n the DVD in [DVD drive]:\administratrs\windws\educatin Sftware Install\Supprt. The Educatin Sftware Installer installatin package (SMARTEducatinSftware.msi) is lcated n the DVD in [DVD drive]:\administratrs\windws\educatin Sftware Install. 4 smarttech.cm/kb/170902

The installatin packages are lcated in the Supprt flder f the.zip file. IMPORTANT SMART recmmends that yu deply SMART sftware using the SMARTEducatinSftware.msi installatin package. Hwever, if yu chse t deply the sftware using individual installatin packages, yu need t d the fllwing: Ensure yu use ne path fr the INSTALLDIR prperty fr SMART Prduct Drivers and SMART Ink, and use a secnd path fr the INSTALLDIR prperty fr SMART Ntebk sftware and SMART Respnse sftware. If yu deply any handwriting recgnitin resurces with the administratr installer, ensure the Supprt\Languages flder exists in the rt f the admin.msi s that the administratr installer finds the resurces t install. Save the installatin packages in a lcatin n yur netwrk that s accessible t all cmputers n which yu plan t install the sftware. Language files If yu plan t deply the installatin packages in a language ther than English (U.S.), ensure the crrespnding MST file fr the language is in the same flder as the MSI file (see Installatin language files and cdes n page 67). Similarly, if yu want users t be able t view and use the handwriting recgnitin feature in a language ther than English, yu must dwnlad and install the apprpriate handwriting recgnitin resurces (see Handwriting recgnitin resurces n page 68). These handwriting recgnitin resurces are lcated n the DVD under [DVD drive]:\administratrs\windws\educatin Sftware Install\Supprt\Languages r in the dwnladed.zip file under Supprt\Languages. Activatin Cnnectivity When yu deply SMART Ntebk sftware, make sure the cmputers can access SMART's web activatin services. Otherwise, the cmputers will nt be able t activate prduct keys, during r after installatin. The activatin web services are accessible at the fllwing URLs: 5 smarttech.cm/kb/170902

10 CHAPTER 1 GETTING STARTED When viewed in a web brwser, each f the abve URLs shuld display a WSDL dcument. NOTE If these sites are blcked by a prxy in yur rganizatin, add the URLs t the prxy s. SMART Install Manager and Activatin Wizard will test these URLs and indicate success r failure. When yu use the SMART Install Manager tl, cnsider that yu, as an administratr, may have less restricted access t the Internet than standard users. It is imprtant t install SMART Ntebk sftware n a standard user s cmputer and use the Activatin Wizard cnnectivity tester t cnfirm cnnectivity. Using SMART Install Manager Start the cnnectivity tester by pressing the Check Activatin Server buttn. The tester will appear and shw three green check marks t indicate success. SMART Install Manager will als prmpt yu t use the cnnectivity tester at the time f publishing custmizatins. Using Activatin Wizard In the Activatin Wizard yu can access the cnnectivity tester frm the Advanced drp-dwn menu in the lwer left f the Activatin Wizard.The tester will appear and shw three green check marks t indicate success. Brwse t [DVD drive]\administratrs\windws\educatin Sftware Install\Supprt, and then duble-click SMART Install Manager.exe. The SMART Install Manager installatin wizard appears. 3. Fllw the n-screen instructins. T install SMART Install Manager frm the website 1. G t smarttech.cm/administratrdwnlads. 2. Scrll t SMART Ntebk cllabrative learning sftware, click Chse a versin, and then select SMART Ntebk sftware > 15 fr Windws. 3. Click Dwnlad SMART Install Manager, and then click Dwnlad. 4. Save the file t yur cmputer. 5. Brwse t the file n yur cmputer, and then duble-click the file. The SMART Install Manager installatin wizard appears. 6. Fllw the n-screen instructins. Selecting an installatin file After yu install SMART Install Manager, shrtcuts t the sftware appear n the desktp and in the Start menu (Windws 7 perating systems) r the Apps screen (Windws 8 r 8.1 perating system). Yu can use SMART Install Manager with either the cmplete installer r with the installatin packages. Depending n which file type yu select, yu can d the fllwing: Installatin file Cmplete installer (.exe file) Installatin package (.msi file) Tasks Open and custmize the cmplete installer (.exe file). Save yur changes t the installatin package as an XML file. Publish yur changes t the installatin packages as an XML file. Open and custmize an installatin package (.msi file) Save yur changes t the installatin package as an XML file. Opening a cmplete installer file T custmize the cmplete installer, drag the SMART Educatin Sftware.exe file int the SMART Install Manager windw. Alternatively, yu can search fr the cmplete installer n yur cmputer by clicking, r n CDs r DVDs by clicking. After yu pen the cmplete installer, a set f pages fr that installer appears in SMART Install Manager. Custmize the cmplete installer using the cntrls n these pages. Fr further infrmatin n available cntrls see Custmizing the sftware n page 11. Saving yur changes After yu custmize the cmplete installer, save yur changes as an XML file by selecting File > Save As. When yu next start SMART Install Manager, lad the XML file by selecting File > Open, r by pening the EXE file and then selecting File > Imprt. Publishing yur changes as an XML file The final step in using SMART Install Manager t custmize the cmplete installer is t publish yur changes as an XML file. After yu pen an installatin package, a set f pages fr that installatin package appears in SMART Install Manager. Custmize the installatin package using the cntrls n these pages. Saving yur changes After yu custmize an installatin package, save yur changes as an XML file by selecting File > Save As. T d this, select File > Publish, and then use the dialg bx t define a lcatin fr and create the MST file. TIP If yu use an lder MST file created with an earlier versin f the MSI file, it might nt wrk prperly. Use the current MSI file t create yur MST file. Publish the MST file in the same lcatin as the MSI file. Custmizing the sftware After yu ve pened yur install file in SMART Install Manager, yu can custmize the sftware by setting the cntrls n each page. Available cntrls are defined in the fllwing table. Cntrl Prcedure Ntes General Optins: Prduct Selectin SMART Prduct Drivers Select t install SMART Prduct Drivers. SMART Ink Select t install SMART Ink. If yu install SMART Ink, yu must install SMART Prduct Drivers. When yu select this check bx, SMART Install Manager selects SMART Prduct Drivers autmatically. SMART Ntebk sftware Prduct key Select t install SMART Ntebk sftware. Read the tw ntes regarding SMART s new sftware licensing, and then select the I acknwledge the abve nte bx lcated under each nte. Type yur 25-character prduct key fr SMART Ntebk sftware. IMPORTANT If yu dn t select the tw license acknwledgment bxes, SMART Ntebk sftware desn t install. Yu can type the prduct key with r withut hyphens. When yu type a vlume prduct key, the sftware activates when yu deply it t yur netwrk cmputers. 11 smarttech.cm/kb/170902

If yu re installing SMART Respnse sftware and students use SMART Ntebk SE (Student Editin) sftware r SMART Respnse VE Internetenabled devices t answer questins, type yur 25-character prduct key fr SMART Respnse sftware. Select t install SMART Ntebk Math Tls sftware. Type yur 22- r 25-character prduct key fr SMART Ntebk Math Tls sftware. Select t remve SMART sftware prducts available in the current ESI package fund n any machine n yur system (except the SMART prducts yu selected abve). If yu dn t select this setting, all SMART Educatin sftware fund is upgraded, even if the SMART sftware isn t selected abve. If yu install SMART Respnse sftware, yu must als install SMART Ntebk sftware. When yu select this check bx, SMART Install Manager selects SMART Ntebk autmatically. Yu can type the prduct key with r withut hyphens. When yu type a vlume prduct key, the sftware activates when yu deply it t yur netwrk cmputers. If yu chse t install SMART Ntebk Math Tls sftware, yu must als install SMART Ntebk sftware. Yu can type the prduct key with r withut hyphens. When yu type a vlume prduct key, the sftware activates when yu deply it t yur netwrk cmputers. This affects the behavir f the installer when yu perfrm an upgrade. Registered keys can be activated when users start SMART Ntebk sftware. If yu dn t select this setting, the sftware autmatically activates during installatin rather than manually after installatin. Select t prevent the sftware activatin reminder frm appearing after SMART Ntebk sftware starts. Delaying activatin is useful fr unifrm deplyments that include users wh dn t use SMART Ntebk sftware. Only users wh start SMART Ntebk sftware activate registered keys and cnsume a license. When this checkbx is selected, the sftware activatin reminder appears nly when the SMART Ntebk sftware trial perid expires. General Optins: Installatin Optins Start SMART System Menu at lgn Installatin directry Install desktp shrtcuts Select t start the SMART System Menu when the user lgs n. Type the path t yur preferred flder where prgram installatin files are stred. Once yu specify the path, selected prgrams are installed in sub-directries f this lcatin. Select t create shrtcuts in the Start menu and n the desktp. If yu specify a flder, include a back slash (\) at the end f the path. If yu dn t specify a flder, Windws Installer installs the sftware in sub-directries f the default flder C:\Prgram Files\SMART Technlgies (32-bit systems) r C:\Prgram Files (x86) SMART Technlgies (64-bit systems). General Optins: SMART Prduct Update Install SMART Prduct Update in Full mde Install SMART Prduct Update in Dashbard mde D nt install SMART Prduct Update Select t install SMART Prduct Update (SPU) in Full mde. Select t install SPU in Dashbard mde. Select t nt install SPU. In Full mde, users can view the installed versins f SMART sftware as well as their prduct keys, and dwnlad and install updates. In Dashbard mde, users can view nly the installed versins f SMART sftware and their prduct keys. Check fr updates Type the number f days (1 t 60) between SPU checks. This ptin is available nly if yu install SPU in Full mde. By default, SPU checks fr prduct updates every 30 days. Ntify users abut SMART prduct updates Reset per-user changes t the previus tw settings Select t ntify users f available SMART prduct updates thrugh the Windws ntificatin area. Select t remve existing Check fr updates and Ntify users abut SMART prduct updates values the next time the user runs SPU. This ptin is available nly if yu install SPU in Full mde. This enables administratrs t push new values fr these settings t cmputers and ensures the new values are accepted. Individual users can still mdify these settings. General Optins: Custmer Experience Enable the Custmer Experience Prgram n all devices Select t autmatically enable the Custmer Experience Prgram fr all users. 14 smarttech.cm/kb/170902

Yu can include envirnment variables in the path. SMART Ntebk: Optinal Settings Install print capture driver Select t include the Print Capture Driver in the installatin. The Print Capture Driver is a printer driver that enables users t exprt cntent frm ther prgrams t SMART Ntebk sftware by using the SMART Ntebk Dcument Writer. Register SMART Dcument Camera drivers Select t enable the registratin f SMART Dcument Camera drivers. IMPORTANT If yu want users t be able t view and use the handwriting recgnitin feature in a language ther than English, yu must als cpy the Supprt\Languages flder t \\[Dmain Cntrller]\NETLOGON. The Supprt\Languages flder is lcated in the dwnladed.zip file. The installer lks fr handwriting recgnitin resurces in the Supprt\Languages flder nly. SMART prvides updates in tw file frmats in the installatin package: Windws Installer update installatin packages (MSI files) Windws Installer patches (MSP files) NOTE MSP files are available nly fr select updates as identified n the SMART website. Which file frmat yu use depends n the versin f the sftware installed n yur cmputers and the versin f the update. If these versins are the same, yu can use the MSP file, if available, t install the update. If these versins are different (because, fr example, a previus versin f the sftware is installed n yur cmputers), yu must first upgrade the sftware n yur cmputers t the same versin as the update using the MSI file and then install the update using the MSP file, if available. After yu dwnlad an installatin package and extract the update files, place the update files in a lcatin n yur netwrk that s accessible t all the cmputers yu plan t update.
