There are sme general guidelines fr cmpleting minrs that apply t all students in the university and sme specialized infrmatin explained belw fr SNL students in the BA prgram with an Individualized Fcus Area wh wuld like t use ne f the DePaul business minrs as a key cmpnent f the Fcus Area. When cmpleted, the business minrs recmmended here represent between 5 and 7 f the Fcus Area electives. Therefre, students can supplement the remaining Fcus Area electives with learning activities that align with the theme f their Fcus Area. In additin, thrugh the cmpletin f their F1 planning cmpetence and their advanced prjects, students have the pprtunity t further enhance the cntent that was addressed thrugh cmpletin f the minr. Availability f Business Minrs The Driehaus Cllege f Business (COB) ffers 12 different minrs t undergraduate students. The minrs described belw have been identified as the best ptins available t SNL BA students based their subject matter, career pprtunities and evening curse availability. The minrs recmmended fr SNL students are Accuntancy, Business Administratin, Ecnmics, Management, Management Infrmatin Systems, Marketing, and Sales Leadership. COB ffers day and evening curses at the Lp campus nly and des nt ffer undergraduate curses nline. Therefre, these minrs wuld be available nly t students that are able t attend the Lp campus. If students have the flexibility t attend day sectins, their pprtunities t cmplete these minrs r thers wuld increase substantially. Placement f Business Curses in SNL BA Prgram The basic guideline fr placing business curses int the BA prgram is that they need t be placed int the Fcus Area f the student's requirements. There are 3 types f curses that are included in sme f the business minr requirements that may be placed utside f the Fcus Area. These three categries are cnsidered Liberal Arts tpics and eligible t be placed int the Liberal Learning Area. They are math, ecnmics and cmputer science. Otherwise, the rest f the business tpics wuld need t reside in the Fcus Area f the BA prgram. SNL Fcus Area Titles The title f the SNL Fcus Area which is created during the develpment f the student's learning plan may nt replicate the title f any majrs ffered by ther DePaul clleges. While SNL students are nt able t use the title f a business majr r business minr as the title f their Fcus Area, they can use the minr as substantial cmpnent f their Fcus Area and create Fcus Area titles that reflect hw that minr has been enhanced and cntributed t their educatinal and career gals. Therefre, SNL students selecting the business minr ptin can create Fcus Area titles that either imply r incrprate the substance f the minr int the title, such as: Accunting fr Nn-Prfit Organizatins; Electrnic Cnsumer Marketing, Human Resurce Prject Management, Financial Service Management, Ecnmic Plicy Develpment. Or, they d nt need t incrprate the name f the minr int the Fcus Area title at all. Either way, the curses related t the minr will cntribute t the cntent f the Fcus Area. Fcus Area / Minr Credentials While earning the Bachelr f Arts with a business related Fcus Area title, student's selecting this prgram ptin have the additinal credential f a minr in the chsen tpic area. Fr example, a student culd describe the degree as a Bachelr f Arts with a cncentratin in Accunting fr Nn-Prfit Organizatins and a minr in Accunting. Or, the student may cmpliment the fcus area by having a cncentratin in Accunting fr Nn-Prfit Organizatins with a minr in Marketing r Management Infrmatin Systems, r bth. Hwever, if a student chses t cmplete mre than ne minr, the extra curses may nt have available cmpetence slts t place the curses and if s, thse curses wuld be in excess f the 50 cmpetence requirements. 1) Placement f DePaul Business Curses: When SNL students take curses frm ther DePaul clleges, thse curses place int the Additinal Curses categry f the DPR. Therefre, the COB curses will need t be manually directed t the Fcus Area. Students can cntact snlrecrds@depaul.edu t make these requests. 2) Psting Business Transfer Curses: When SNL students submit transfer curses t the BA prgram, thse curses are psted as SNL cmpetence equivalents. This will prevent thse curses frm being acknwledged as traditinal DePaul curse pre-requisites and curses t satisfy business minr requirements. Fr example, a Pre-Calculus transfer wuld be psted as the L6 cmpetence r a cmpetence in the SW categry rather than being psted as the DePaul MAT 130 curse equivalent. If nt psted as MAT 130, the curse will nt be acknwledged by Campus Cnnect as a pre-requisite fr any business curses requiring MAT 130. Business Minr Track Optin Prcess Step 1) Student researches and expresses interest in the business minr ptin t academic cmmittee. Infrmatin abut the business minr prgram ptin is available n the SNL website and the Fundatins bk. Step 2) Student discusses the fllwing tpics regarding the business minr ptin with academic cmmittee: - which minr will be chsen, - what cmpetences the minr will fill, - hw the Fcus Area will be supplemented beynd the minr, - what the Fcus Area will be called, - what the tpic f the Advanced Prject will be. 3) Student ges t campus cnnect t add minr using the Inter-Cllege Transfer (ICT) functin. 4) Student takes curses fr minr, registering thrugh campus cnnect. 5) Student requests minr curses t be directed t crrect slts n the DPR. 6) Student can seek assistance frm COB with questins abut minr requirements, transfer equivalents, required r elective curse selectins. 7) Student cmpletes minr, minr requirements are verified at graduatin check. 8) If student des nt cmplete the minr, the student will nt be cleared fr graduatin unless they withdraw frm the minr n campus cnnect. 9) If student des nt cmplete the minr, he r she can use the curses were taken tward the minr in the fcus area and may r may nt change the name and central theme f the fcus area.
