Overview Empowering youth with the confidence and life skills to become strong community leaders of tomorrow Collaboration With Communities, Each Other, And Teammates Equality & Respect Regardless of Values, Ideas and Beliefs Dedication To Your Work, Your Teammates And The Game Above All, Have Fun Lay-Up, founded in 2013, runs camps and after school programs featuring two main components: Basketball Program 1 Run with the help of our partner Basketball World Toronto, basketball skills training and games are used as teaching tools to develop participants leadership skills and confidence It is a unique opportunity for participants to have fun in a structured, safe environment Social Education 2 These sessions, held daily, often in partnership with other local youth initiatives, address topics such as education, teamwork, communication, hard work, tolerance, healthy living and more 1
Regent Park Duke of York Children s Foundation Lay-Up is an initiative of Regent Park Duke of York Children s Foundation (RPDYF) The mission of Regent Park Duke of York Children s Foundation (RPDYF) is to provide support and leadership opportunities for children attending Regent Park public schools The organization was founded in 1994 in response to what concerned educators, parents, and volunteers saw as a lack of opportunities for children to participate in activities in the community both before and after school The program works with children and families that are in need of support by providing them with access to literacy and art therapy programs, summer camps, athletics programs and other community initiatives RPDYF s goal is to ensure equal access for all children to these programs in order to give them the same opportunities and experiences that are enjoyed by kids across the GTA Although RPDYF has traditionally focused on initiatives in the Regent Park community, the Lay-Up initiative will focus on a number of low-income neighbourhoods that are able to benefit from the program Programs Supported by RPDYF Daily Milk Program Art Therapy Program Kilcoo Summer Camp Sponsorship Computer lab with 30 work stations Play Therapy Program A Kinder Gym Program Grade 6 Graduating Class Camping Trip Literacy Program Breakfast Program Christmas Hampers for families in partnership with Heart to Hand Organization Lay-Up Youth Basketball Scholarship 9
Lay-Up Basketball Programs Lay-Up currently offers two types of programming throughout the year in neighbourhoods across Toronto: 1 Summer Program Participants engage in a full week of basketball activities and life-skill building sessions Camps run from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, feature an interactive social activity or speaker, and include lunch and snacks for participants Camps are run in local gyms and community centers, transportation is provided when needed and typical attendance ranges from 20 to 30 campers We are running an employee and volunteer program for administrators, coaches and program coordinators for the 2016 camps we have had over 30 applications in less than two months After-School Program 2 Participants attend two-hour sessions in a local gym on a select day of the week After-school programs run from September to May and are split into two semesters of 10 weeks We had our first volunteer coaches and program coordinators during the 2015/16 season of after school programs 2
Social Programming Every day of camp, there is time set aside for social programming. This program has several goals which support Lay-Up s mission and values: Maximize Developmental Power of Sport: Encourage and reward teamwork, leadership, communication, hard work and passion. Provide Practical Education: Develop participants practical skills (i.e. communication) and knowledge skills (i.e. healthy living). Develop Academic Based Interests: Create lessons and activities which tie back to academic subjects like reading, mathematics, and sciences. Help Participants Apply Lessons to Everyday Life: Help reinforce the lessons and teachings of the program to off-the-court endeavors. To facilitate the program, Lay-Up employs several resources: Volunteers and Coaches: Trained and highly committed to the core curriculum goals. Guest Speakers: motivational speakers, social workers, athletes, nutritionists, police officers, lawyers, doctors, and more Partnerships: work with other organizations to host unique sessions (e.g. Visions for Science) Basketball Passport : Used to record lessons to help participants retain what they learn and become Lay-Up Basketball Citizens Rewards: Those that best display and apply social curriculum topics receive rewards (including free sports tickets through partnership with Kids Up Front). At the end of camp, every child is given an award related to basketball or the social program. 3
Community Integration 4 Over our first two years, Lay-Up s focus has been on connecting with interested youth and providing them with a once a life time experience. Lay-Up s goal of Community Integration is to broaden our scope in order to further develop the ways we benefit our communities. Through these efforts, we hope to engrain ourselves in the day-to-day fabric of local neighbourhoods and extend our impact far beyond the basketball court. Community Integration Objectives Support causes, priorities and events of other organizations in our core communities through crossmarketing, cross-programming, volunteer work, and financial contributions Facilitate greater local involvement at underline programs whether it be volunteers, coaches, partnerships and more Provide opportunities for age ranges which our core basketball programs currently do not serve Create free coach training programs for interested young adults and teens from core communities and then offer a paid position as a Lay-Up coach Develop our off-the-court support by providing participants with financial assistance towards education and other areas which will help them develop into the community leaders of tomorrow Community partners to date have helped us increase our reach, diversify our programs and provide additional benefits to our participants (1) (1) Community partners include Helping Neighbourhoods Implement Change, Kiwani Boys and Girls Club, Nelson Mandela Park Public School, Visions of Science, Kids Upfront Toronto, Rotary Club of Toronto Eglinton, TDSB, Young GE, Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre, Toronto Police Department, Lord Dufferin Middle School, RP/DYCF
Year 2 (2015/16) Operational, Organizational & Fundraising in Review Key operational highlights: ~120 registered participants took part in Lay-Up s Summer 2015 full-week programming Across three schools in the Regent Park and Jane & Finch neighbourhoods ~50 registered participants took part in Lay-Up s Fall 2015 after-school programming and ~50 in the Winter 2016 semester Across two schools in the Regent Park and Jane & Finch neighbourhoods To date ~350 children have participated in Lay-Up programs Key fundraising highlights: Lay-Up raised ~$65,000 in Year 2, which was used to fund the operation of the summer and after-school programming Operated at a surplus going into Year 3 which will be used to grow our volunteer base, local involvement and also expand to a new neighbourhood In addition to raising over $20,000 from events and partnerships, Lay-Up has applied for several corporate sponsorships and grants for charities and non-profits 5 Key organizational highlights: Developed new partnerships with different community organizations, charitable initiatives, and small businesses to augment our community outreach, social program, and donor base Grew our volunteer base to help develop our programs, lower costs, and provide opportunities to individuals outside of our participant age group Began the process of breaking out into an independent charity

There are also program coordinator costs paid to BWT for assisting with marketing and operations.
Lay-Up Basketball Program Priorities 7 In 2016/2017 Lay-Up will be focused on enhancing the program and building on past successes: 1 Community Integration Community Integration will broaden the way we impact our communities (see pg. 5) 2 Increase Reach Grow programming to 280 participants (27% increase over 220 in 2015/16) 3 Scale Fundraising by attracting Community Grants and Corporate Sponsorships Increased annual fundraising goal to over $100,000 by 2017/2018 Acquire well-known corporate sponsors and apply for large-scale grants to apply towards specific programs and expansion plans Enhance Measurement 4 Measure participants and guardians satisfaction through retention, surveys, and anecdotal evidence Measure participants development off the court by working with schools and community partners 5 Expand Contractor, Volunteer & Partnership Network Develop our network of volunteers and contractors committed to help Lay-Up both administratively and from a fundraising perspective Expand our relationships with Boys and Girls Clubs as well as local community initiatives

Partnership with Basketball World Toronto Lay-Up is thrilled to partner Basketball World Toronto ( BWT ) to help develop our basketball programs and house leagues BWT has been offering a wide range of basketball programs in Toronto for the past six years BWT instructors are highly skilled and experienced, allowing participants to learn within an established basketball curriculum Playing basketball in an organized format will help teach sportsmanship and leadership skills, as well as helping participants develop a stronger work ethic and higher level of confidence BWT, founded in 2006, was started to meet the need for high-quality basketball programming in Toronto, and the organization is now the largest provider of basketball programs and services in Toronto BWT s mission is to develop the best all-around basketball programs and players in Toronto for the love of the game BWT is committed to the same philosophies as Lay-Up and strongly feels that every child deserves to experience the fun and character-building experiences associated with the sport of basketball 10
