NON-CIRCULAR PIPES THE HYDRAULIC RADIUS Head loss calculations for non-circular pipe sections are done using the hydraulic radius concept. The hydraulic radius, R h, is defined as the area, A, of the pipe section divided by the wetted perimeter (circumference), P.
