To enle this funtionlity, softwre pplition nmed VMWre View Client must e instlled on the omputer essing virtul desktops. Instrutions for instlling the softwre, nd for essing virtul desktops, re inluded in this doument. In ddition, plese refer to Appendix A for system requirements nd Appendix B for dditionl onsidertions when essing virtul desktops from personlly owned omputers. To Instll the VMWre View Client 1. Chek your omputer Do your omputer nd home network meet the requirements for virtul desktops? Chek Appendix A (system requirements) to find out. 2. Identify your operting system This doument provides instrution for Windows omputers only. Is your omputer 32-it or 64-it? (Unfortuntely, it mtters.) If you don t know just:. lik on the Strt logo utton. right-lik on Computer. lik on Properties in the menu d. In the window tht ppers, look t the System type whih will e 32-it or 64-it. Clik on either View Client for Windows 32 it or View Client for Windows 64 it depending on wht you lerned in Step 1.. To use Virtul Desktop 1. Doule-lik the VMwre View Client ion on the desktop. 2. Tell the View Client to onnet to Mdison College.. Enter mydesktop.mdisonollege.edu s the Connetion Server, if it s not lredy there.. If you see ox lelled log in s urrent user, mke sure tht the ox is not heked. If you do not see the ox then it is not needed.. Clik the Connet utton. 3. In the next window, log in with your usul College user nme nd pssword. 4. Choose Desktop y liking on the desktop nme, then lik the Connet utton.. Stndrd Desktop The Mdison College Stndrd Desktop is usully t the top of the list. If you hoose the stndrd desktop, you ll get pplitions like Mirosoft Offie nd we rowsers, ut your lss might require ustom pplitions.. Wrong Desktop? If you re not onneted to the orret desktop (you don t see the pplitions you need or the desktop nme is not wht you expet), then log off nd repet these steps ut hoose different desktop. Logging Off When you re finished, nd you log off from the Virtul Desktop, you will e returned to the omputer s norml desktop. REMEMBER: DON T SAVE ANYTHING TO THE DESKTOP OR TO LOCAL STORAGE! Most desktops re non-persistent, mening tht when you log off, everything on the virtul desktop is disrded. On ll desktops, it is preferle to sve your dt to thum drive, your H: drive or nother shred network drive. Using USB Devies (i.e. Thum Drives, Hedsets, et.) 1. Plug the devie into one of the omputer s USB ports. 2 2. To onnet your devie to the Virtul Desktop, lik on Connet USB Devie in the Toolr.. Then lik on the nme of your devie in the menu. Note: USB 3.0 ports (usully mrked with SS or olored lue) re not urrently supported y virtul desktops. If your devie does not pper in the menu, or you see n unle to rediret messge, try plugging into different port. 3. Depending on your speifi USB Devie, it my tke up to 60 seonds for Windows 7 to reognize nd instll the USB Devie efore it n e used. 4. Aess to virtul desktops from student owned omputers is only ville while on-mpus. Remote ess to virtul desktops is not urrently ville. Virtul Desktop Avilility - The quntity of virtul desktops ville for ess from personl devies is limited y softwre liensing nd other onsidertions. If ll ville virtul desktops re in use y others, messge inditing tht ll desktops re in use will e generted. Softwre Applitions Aville - For some pplitions, Mdison College is limited y softwre liense greements preventing use when essed y personlly owned omputers or other devies. For softwre tht is restrited from use on personlly owned devies, Ions nd/or Strt Menu lunh options will not e ville on the virtul desktop. Aess to Lol Disk Drives Virtul desktops do not support ess to lol devie storge or disk drives. When using virtul desktop, you will not e le to see or use files on your devie s lol storge, C: drive, or CD/DVD drive. Externl drives tht onnet to USB port re supported (see Using USB Devies ). If you need to move files from your devie to virtul desktop or k, you will need to first opy the files to thum drive or network drive, or trnsfer them vi emil. Copy/Pste Between Desktops It is not possile to opy/pste or drg-nd-drop from your personl omputer to virtul desktop or vie vers, or etween virtul desktops.
