4 1 FIRST USE: HOW TO BOOT. INTRODUCTION Eh time you strt your omputer, it utomtilly lunhes your operting system without the nee for ny input from you. This strtup is lle the BOOT proess, n the softwre tht ontrols this proess is lle the BOOT MANAGER. KeySeurePC steps in uring this oot phse, preventing the omputer from lunhing its internl operting system n reireting the BOOT proess to lunh our operting system (see the mnul lle Generl Operting Priniples ). In orer to llow KeySeurePC to rry out this opertion, selet the BOOT moe on your PC (this informtion is usully provie in the omputer s instrution ooklet or ville online t the mnufturer s wesite). AUTO BOOT FROM USB PORT If your omputer is set to AUTO BOOT FROM USB PORT, insert KeySeurePC in your omputer n go iretly to setion 3: Initilising KeySeurePC. INSTALLING THE KEYSECUREPC SOFTWARE TO BOOT FROM USB PORT If your omputer is NOT set to AUTO BOOT FROM USB PORT you will nee to instll the USB PORT BOOT MANAGER, progrmme omprise in your KeySeurePC, y following the simple instrutions foun in Chpter 2 of this Mnul. We highly reommene this option euse, one instlle, this progrmme will llow KeySeurePC to oot quikly every time. MANUAL BOOT CONFIGURATION Finlly, if your omputer is NOT set for AUTO BOOT FROM USB port, n you o NOT wish to instll the USB PORT BOOT MANAGER on your omputer, you n follow the proeure outline in the mnul lle MANUAL BOOT CONFIGURATION, whih you n ownlo from the DOWNLOAD setion on our wesite. Although this proeure tkes longer, it lso llows KeySeurePC to oot orretly on your omputer.

5 2 INSTALLING USB PORT BOOT MANAGER. Softwre omptile with Winows 98, Winows ME, Winows XP, Winows Vist, Winows 7. e f g h i l Strt your omputer. Insert your KeySeurePC into USB port. The Autoply winow will pper showing two options: Generl Options n Instll or run progrmmes. Selet Instll n lik Strt. This opens the KeySeurePC Boot Mnger winow: lik on Instll. If your omputer sks for n ministrtor psswor, enter it s require. This opens the Confirmtion winow: lik OK. THE BOOT PROGRAM IS INSTALLED; THE COMPUTER MUST BE RESTARTED TO LAUNCH KEYSECUREPC. Your PC my restrt utomtilly or following your onfirmtion, epening on the operting system instlle on your PC. After restrting, the Winows Boot Mnger sreen will pper, sking you to hoose whether to lunh KeySeurePC or run the omputer s operting system: selet KeySeurePC using the rrow keys n pressing Enter. Now, your omputer will lunh KeySeurePC. The winows Deteting evie n Strting evie pper in suession. Wit until the KeySeurePC psswor prompt winow ppers efore entering ny input. KeySeurePC is rey to e initilize: proee with initiliztion oring to the instrutions in setion 3.

6 3 FIRST USE: INITIALISING AND ENTERING THE 3 REQUIRED PASSWORDS. Before you enter your 3 psswors, we woul like to remin you tht these psswors re n integrl prt of KeySeurePC s seurity system n shoul e hosen with prtiulr re. If you hve not lrey one so, plese re the Mnul entitle Generl Operting Priniples ville in the DOWNLOAD setion on our wesite efore initilizing n entering your 3 psswors. Lunh KeySeurePC on your omputer oring to one of three BOOT proeures esrie in the previous setions. The initiliztion winow ppers requesting 3 psswors: enter these y following the instrutions on the winow n lik CONFIRM e The KeySeurePC initiliztion proeure strts n tkes pproximtely 5 minutes (epening on the KeySeurePC moel you hve hosen). As inite in the initiliztion winow, you shoul not shut own the omputer or press ny keys to voi isturing initiliztion. Following initiliztion, winow opens sking you restrt your omputer: lik RESTART. One the omputer restrts, your KeySeurePC is rey for use. A winow will pper requesting entry of single psswor: go to setion 4 entitle SUBSEQUENT USE to see how to proee.

7 4 SUBSEQUENT USE. e f Insert KeySeurePC into your omputer. Strt your omputer. You will see the Winows Boot Mnger sreen sking you to hoose etween lunhing KeySeurePC n running the omputer s internl operting system: selet KeySeurePC using the rrow keys n press Enter. Your omputer will now lunh KeySeurePC. The winows Deteting evie n Strting evie pper in suession. Wit until the KeySeurePC psswor prompt winow ppers efore entering ny input. Enter one of the 3 psswors, epening on whether: you wnt to ess the 1st environment, you wnt to ess the 2n environment, you wnt to rry out the wiping proeure (elierte estrution of t). After entering the psswor, lik Confirm : KeySeurePC lunhes n opens your Desktop (piture elow). Now you n rry on freely with your work session.

8 5 RE-INITIALISING / CHANGING PASSWORD. You will lose the t store on KeySeurePC when you re-initilise. In orer to sve suh t, we suggest you rry out the following steps efore re-initilising: trnsfer your t to evie suh s KeySeurePC Bkup; re-initilise; retrieve your t from the Bkup evie n trnsfer it to your KeySeurePC. e Lunh KeySeurePC n go to your esktop. Clik the START utton n from the pop-up menu, selet the option KeySeurePC n Initilise Devie. A winow ppers sking if you wnt to proee with re-initilistion: lik to onfirm. Your omputer restrts. The initilistion winow ppers requesting your 3 psswors: enter them y following the instrutions on the winow n press CONFIRM. The KeySeurePC re-initilistion proess strts n lsts roun 5 minutes (epening on the KeySeurePC moel you hve hosen). As inite in the initilistion winow, o not shut own your omputer or press ny keys to voi isturing re-initilistion. HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD. You must re-initilise the entire system to hnge your KeySeurePC psswor. This is ue to the ft tht your psswors re n integrl prt of KeySeurePC s seurity tehnology. One entere into the system, they re enrypte n influene the AES256 enryption lgorithm, therey mking your system inresingly seure. Chnging your psswors woul open potentil flw in the seurity tehnology of our evie n mke it suseptile to ttk. If you wish to hnge your psswors for seurity resons, you must re-initilise the entire system y following the instrutions ove.

9 6 DATA BACKUP. e f g h i l Lunh KeySeurePC n go to your esktop. Insert kup evie suh s KeySeurePC Bkup into USB port on your omputer. Clik the START utton n, from the pop-up menu, selet the option KeySeurePC n Bkup. This opens the KEYSECUREPC BACKUP winow: The winow toolr isplys the messge KEYSECUREPC DEVICE DETECTED. If your evie is not foun, lik REFRESH. In the winow, uner DEVICES DETECTED, lote KEYSECUREPC BACKUP : hek the ox MANAGE DEVICES. One gin from the winow toolr, lik the utton INITIALISE SELECTED DEVICE. This opens the CONFIRMATION winow, whih wrns you tht ny t previously store on the kup evie will e elete. If you gree, lik CONFIRM. This opens the psswor prompt winow: enter your psswor n wit for the messge initing tht your KEYSECUREPC is rey. Return to the winow toolr n lik START BACKUP PROCEDURE : the system utomtilly strts to trnsfer ll the t ontine in your KEYSECUREPC to the Bkup evie. When the Bkup is omplete, return to the winow toolr n lik the CLOSE utton: you n now remove your Bkup evie.

10 7 IMPORTING YOUR FILES TO KEYSECUREPC. Importing file from your PC to KeySeurePC is esy: you n simply ut n pste, or rg n rop the files to KeySeurePC. You must however er in min tht folers re renme when they re importe to KeySeurePC n you my not therefore immeitely reognise them. We reommen tht you import files oring to the following instrutions: omine ll your files in one foler n put the foler on your omputer s hr rive C. Return to the KeySeurePC esktop n lik on the My Computer ion: this opens winow isplying vrious ions, inluing one for the hr rive C whih hs een renme y the system. Lote the hr rive C y opening ll of the ions. One you hve lote hr rive C with its new nme n you hve lote your foler therein, import your files y Copy n Pste or y rgging n ropping them to KeySeurePC.

11 8 WIPING DELIBERATE DESTRUCTION OF DATA. The proess of WIPING, or the elierte n irreversile estrution of t, is one of KeySeurePC s speil fetures. Wiping overwrites the heers of enrypte volumes n the prtition tle to mke them inessile, thus eleting the internl isk struture of KeySeurePC. At the en of this proess, your evie no longer works n n no longer e reuse. The wiping proess n e implemente in one of two wys: upon strting KeySeurePC, enter your 3r psswor or the psswor you selete for t wiping in the psswor prompt winow. The wiping proess immeitely ommenes without further onfirmtion, the r goes k n forth n everything is estroye in just few minutes. Alterntively, the sme wiping proess n e implemente y liking on the Wiping ion tht ppers on the esktop. This will open the psswor prompt winow; simply enter your psswor n onfirm to implement the wiping proess.
