23 Glossry* Autoip: Automtic Privte IP Addressing (known s APIPA or Auto IP), is method for utomticlly ssigning IP ddresses to the devices connected to the network. Dynmic DS: Dynmic DS is technology tht llows DS nme to e permnently ssocited with the IP ddress of the sme host, even if tht ddress susequently chnges. DHCP: In telecommunictions nd informtion technology, Dynmic Host Configurtion Protocol (DHCP) is n ppliction lyer network protocol tht enles the devices or terminls of locl network to utomticlly receive on ech request to n IP network i.e. the internet) the necessry IP configurtion to estlish connection nd operte on wider network sed on Internet Protocol, i.e. to interct with ll the other sunets, exchnging dt, provided tht they re lso integrted in the sme wy with the IP protocol. Gtewy: gtewy is network device tht opertes t network level nd ove of the ISO/OSI model. It's min function is to trnsport network dt pckets outside locl network (LA) Gtewy is generic term for service tht sends dt pckets outside of the network; the hrdwre device tht fulfils this tsk is usully router. Simpler networks hve just one gtewy tht sends ll outound trffic to the Internet network. More complex networks hve severl sunets, ech of which refers to gtewy which routes dt trffic to other sunets or redirects it to other gtewys. Dynmic IP ddress: dynmic ddresses re used to identify non-permnent devices in LA. A server in the LA utomticlly dynmiclly ssigns the ddress, selecting it rndom from preset rnge. You cn select the rnge of ddresses in ccordnce with the numer of users y setting the netmsk, i.e. y telling the DHCP server how mny ddress its cn e ssigned dynmiclly to ech single client tht ccesses it. For exmple, if the netmsk hs the vlue (where ech lock of numers seprted y point denotes group of 8 its), only the lst 8 its cn e ssigned to the hosts. Sttic IP ddress: sttic ddresses re used to identify semi-permnent devices with permnent IP ddress. etwork servers, printers, etc. typiclly use this ddressing method. Sttic ddressing is generlly used in preference to dynmic ddressing for non permnent network devices if there is limited numer of hosts in the sunet nd/or for security resons, so tht the ctions of ech host nd the reltive user cn e kept under control. Pulic IP ddress: in telecommunictions nd informtion technology pulic IP ddress is n IP ddress in the ddress rnge of the internet network tht is unequivoclly llocted nd is potentilly ccessile from ny other pulic IP ddress, nd therefore cn e used for ddressing nd routing vi IP protocol. POE: Power over Ethernet or PoE (the cronym) is technique for powering equipment vi the sme cle s tht used for Ethernet connection. It is very useful when there is no convenient electricl power source ner the termintion or when you wish to reduce the numer of elements nd wires; for exmple, n IP phone on desk cn e powered directly vi the Ethernet cle in Power over Ethernet, therey eliminting the need for power supplier nd its cle, mking for simpler, less cluttered instlltion. For the moment, these techniques re used minly to power devices tht consume only little power, such s VoIP telephones, ccess points nd wecms. Port forwrding: in computer networks, port forwrding is the opertion tht llows the trnsfer of dt from one device to nother vi specific communiction port.. This technique cn e used to llow n externl user to rech host with privte IP ddress (within LA) vi port of the corresponding pulic IP ddress. This opertion requires router cple of utomtic trnsltion of network ddresses, or AT. *Sources Dynmic DS. (205, June 8). Wikipedi, L'enciclopedi lier. Dynmic Host Configurtion Protocol. (205, June 8).
