God revealed his love for all people by sending us his son, Jesus, as a baby. Gold, frankincense and myrrh were three very expensive gifts; gold is a precious metal; frankincense and myrrh are rare, sweetsmelling incenses, Myrrh is the main ingredient in holy anointing oil.

A Note From Your School s Public Health Nurse Winter Tips for Keeping Your Family Safe The winter season is a great time to spend outdoors with family and friends. Being physically active during wintertime can help keep the whole family healthy, but sometimes injuries can spoil the fun. Follow some of these safety tips to help keep you and your little ones safe outdoors: Dress appropriately for the winter weather a coat, hat, scarf, mitts and winter boots will help keep everyone warm. Take frequent breaks from the cold to let your body warm up. Use sunscreen and wear sunglasses, even in the wintertime. Up to 80% of the sun s UV rays are reflected from the snow. Stay away from the banks of ponds, lakes, streams and rivers. They may look safe at first glance, and if there is ice, it may look like it is thick enough to skate or step on, but underneath the water is moving very quickly and can be very dangerous. Protect your head when going tobogganing or sledding; wear a helmet. A ski helmet is recommended, as it is designed to withstand the types of speeds and falls that could happen with this type of activity Monday, January 5 Wednesday, January 7 Monday, January 12 Thursday, January 15 Tuesday, January 13 Welcome back! You Need two players one die paper and pencil for each player Circles and Stars How to Play Player A rolls the die, then draws that number of fairly large circles. Player B rolls the die and does the same. Player A rolls the die and draws that number of stars in each of his circles. Player B rolls the die and does the same. Each player writes the number sentence that tells how many stars he or she has (for example, four circles with three stars in each circle would be 4x3 = 12 stars). Play six rounds, then determine the total number of stars that each player has. Variation For each round, after Player A draws stars in his circle, determine the probability that Player B will end up with more stars than Player A. You Need two players paper and pencil The Big Bad Wolf How to Play Write the numbers 1 to 6 in a horizontal row. You (Player A) will play the Big Bad Wolf (Player B). Every time it is your turn, you can take any number in the list, as long as at least one factor of that number is also in the list. You get your number and the Big Bad Wolf gets all of the factors of that number that are on the list. For example, if you take a 4, the Big Bad Wolf would get 1 and 2 since those are the factors of 4 left in the list. The Taxman must get something every time, which means you cannot choose a number if no factors of the number remain in the list. When no number in the list has any factors left in the list, the game is over and the Taxman gets all the numbers that are left in the list. Variation Try Big Bad Wolf with the numbers 1 10 or the numbers 1 12. Can you find a winning strategy for any string of number?

Transportation and Health and Safety Tips 1. Please ensure you check the transportation website for daily transportation updates for school bussing at http://www.stsbhn.ca/ and also on the following media sources listed below. We are a Zone 3 school with the Brant County and Paris schools. Parents please drop off your children at the front of the school and reserve the bus loading zone for buses only. 3. In doing this, we are bringing our school community together to celebrate Autism Awareness Day. Autism Ontario has invited schools across Ontario to raise funds for the Raise the Flag campaign, which is a powerful way to help students, parents, school staff, and the entire community learn more about Autism. Our Sacred Heart Student Council has donated a portion of their Spirit Day money to the Raise the Flag campaign. With this money, Sacred Heart School becomes a registered school participant. We will receive a flag to fly on April 2 nd and a toolkit full of ideas and resources designed to bring our school community together in raising awareness about Autism. A VERY BIG THANK YOU goes out to our Sacred Heart Student Council for generously donating proceeds from their Spirit Days to this very worthy cause.
