E-mail Set Up for Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 New User These instructions can be used to set up Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 to view your NMSU Windows Live e-mail. By setting up Outlook for your NMSU e-mail, you can use Outlook to view and send e-mail from your NMSU account instead of going through the NMSU website. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already configured Outlook for your old NMSU e-mail account, please click here for instructions. 1. From the Start menu, go to the Control Panel. In the View by menu, choose Small icons. Click on the Mail (32-bit) icon.
2. The next window will be the Mail Setup - Outlook window. Click on the E-mail Accounts button. In the next window, click the New button under the E-mail tab. 3. In the Auto Account Setup window, Make sure E-mail Account is checked. Type in your name in the Your Name field. In the E-mail Address field, type in your NMSU e-mail address. In the Password field, type in your mynsmu password, then retype your password where it says Retype Password. Now click Next.
4. Now a Mail Application window will come up. Your NMSU e-mail address will be written in the top box. In the box labeled Password, type in your mynmsu password. If you would like Outlook to remember your password, check the box next to Remember my credentials. Now click OK. Your e-mail settings will now be configured- this could take several minutes. *PLEASE REMEMBER that every time you change your mynmsu password, you will need to update your password in Outlook. 5. Now a Congratulations window will come up, saying that your e-mail account was successfully configured. Click the Finish button.
6. You can now view your NMSU e-mail in Outlook. To view your e-mail, select the Inbox listed under your NMSU e-mail account in the left-hand task bar of Outlook. 3. In the next window, click on the General tab. Under the Mail Account section, change the name of the account to Old NMSU E-mail. Now click OK. In the Change Account window, click Next. Outlook will now test your account settings; when this is finished, click Close. Then Close the Change Account window. 4. Back in the Account Settings window, click the New button under the E-mail tab.

7. Back in the Account Settings window, select your new NMSU e-mail account, labeled with your e-mail address and listed as Exchange. Click the Set as Default button at the top of the window. Your new NMSU e-mail address should now be listed as the default account. Click Close. 8. Open Outlook. A Mail Application window will come up. In the Username box, type your NMSU e-mail address. In the box labeled Password, type in your mynmsu password. If you would like Outlook to remember your password, check the box next to Remember my credentials. Now click OK. *PLEASE REMEMBER that every time you change your mynmsu password, you will need to update your password in Outlook.
9. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not move messages between your old and new accounts. If you move a message into your old NMSU account, you will not be able to get it back once the old system is no longer available. To avoid this, you should minimize the old NMSU e-mail account. You can do this by clicking the arrow next to the account in the left-hand menu: a black arrow facing down is maximized, and a white arrow facing to the right is minimized. Once minimized, you should not be able to see your old folders. *NOTE: You may still see messages in the inbox of your first NMSU e-mail account, but you will no longer receive messages there. On June 30 th, 2011, the old NMSU e-mail system will no longer be available. After that date, it is safe to delete your Old NMSU E-mail account.
