1 Set Up for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Click on the option that describes you: I am setting up my NMSU with Outlook for the first time I currently use Outlook to view my NMSU and want to set it up for the new Windows Live NMSU system *Your can also be accessed through Sign in and click on the & Calendar button.

2 Set Up for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 New User These instructions can be used to set up Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 to view your NMSU Windows Live . By setting up Outlook for your NMSU , you can use Outlook to view and send from your NMSU account instead of going through the NMSU website. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already configured Outlook for your old NMSU account, please click here for instructions. 1. Open Outlook. Go to the Tools menu and click Accounts. In the next window, select Add a new account and click Next.

2. In the Server Type window, select IMAP and click Next. In the Internet E-mail Settings (IMAP) window, type in your first and last name in the Your Name box.

Type outlook.com in the Incoming mail server (IMAP) box. Type smtp.nmsu.edu in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box. Type your full NMSU address in the User Name box. Type your mynmsu password in the Password box. If you don t want to type your password in each time you open Outlook, select the Remember password box. Now click More Settings. *PLEASE REMEMBER that every time you change your mynmsu password, you will need to update your password in Outlook.

4 3. In the next window, click on the Outgoing Server tab. Select the box labeled My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server. Now select the Advanced tab. Change the number labeled Incoming server (IMAP) to 993 and select the box labeled This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Change the number labeled Outgoing server (SMTP) to 587 and select the box labeled This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Now click OK. *PLEASE REMEMBER that every time you change your mynmsu password, you will need to update your password in Outlook.

5 4. Click Next in the Internet Settings (IMAP) window. The next window will be a Congratulations message. Click Finish. You can now view your NMSU in Outlook. 7 2. Select your old NMSU account and click Change. Then click More Settings. In the next window, under the General tab, change the name of the account to Old NMSU E- mail. Then click OK. Click Next and then Finish in the Accounts window. Close Outlook and then open it again to make sure that the new account name will show up correctly.

7. Go to Tools and click on E-mail Accounts. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next.

13 8. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not move messages between your old and new accounts. If you move a message into your old NMSU account, you will not be able to get it back once the old system is no longer available. To avoid this, you should minimize the old NMSU account. You can do this by clicking the minus sign next to the account in the left-hand menu: a minus sign is maximized, and a plus sign is minimized. Once minimized, you should not be able to see your old folders. *NOTE: You may still see messages in the inbox of your first NMSU account, but you will no longer receive messages there. On June 30 th, 2011, the old NMSU system will no longer be available. After that date, it is safe to delete your Old NMSU account.
