About Tuskegee Parks and Recreation Mission It is the mission of the Tuskegee Parks and Recreation Department to create recreational opportunities that enrich the lives of citizens in Tuskegee through services and programs that promote citizen involvement and a strong sense of community while striving to increase the social, cultural, and physical well-being of its residents and visitors. Vision To create a sense of community through our people, parks, and programs. Goals 1. To provide an opportunity for all citizens in Macon County to participate in physical activity to tackle the health disparities within the Macon County community. 2. To provide diverse and beneficial recreational opportunities to the community. 3. To manage and maintain parks and facilities to enrich the recreational experiences of citizens. 4. To teach the basic athletic fundamentals and to promote sportsmanship among youth. 5. To create a feeder program for the local middle and high schools. Tuskegee Parks and Recreation in its current form was reestablished by the City of Tuskegee, Alabama in 2013 by the City Council to address the recreational needs of the citizens of Tuskegee, AL. Tuskegee Parks and Recreation (TPR) is the lead recreational opportunity provider for Macon County, AL and its surrounding communities. TPR currently sponsor youth programs in football, volleyball, cheerleading, boys and girls basketball, girls fast-pitch softball, track, and a summer health and fitness camp. In 2016, TPR is seeking to expand and offer youth programs in archery, soccer, and swimming. TPR is also seeking to add adult programs in basketball, softball, flag football, and kickball. At the youth level, TPR believes that recreational and competitive sports programs provide discipline, structure, and opportunities to instill respect and leadership qualities in youth. Adult programs offer an opportunity for fellowship among the various communities while creating a sense of family among the youth and adults in Macon County. Tuskegee Parks and Recreation in 2014 and 2015 has received grants from Academy Sports and Outdoors, The Arthritis Foundation (via National Recreation and Parks Association), The Walmart Foundation (via NRPA), USA Archery (via Alabama Recreation and Parks Association), Molten Volleyball, and Alabama Pro Health Grant. Providing quality recreational programs to meet the needs and expectations of Tuskegee residents often require more than tax dollars can provide. If you have a sponsorship idea, please contact us. 2016 Leagues and Events (Based on current Programs) Dates Event Description Jan/Feb League Basketball A recreation league involving youths from grades 2 through 11 (boys) and 2 through 7 (girls) featuring teams in Macon County, Union Springs, Dadeville, Montgomery, and Opelika Feb 20 Feb 27 Mar 11-13 Mar 19-26 Black History Month Basketball Tournament ARPA District and State Tournament Spring Break Classic A local tournament featuring all-star basketball teams as they prepare for the ARPA basketball tournament and travel basketball season ARPA competitive basketball tournament. District tournament will be held in Lincoln, AL and the state tournament will be held in Birmingham, AL Annual spring break tournament held during spring break to give kids something constructive to do while increasing local pride. Tournament has traditionally been free for participants. April-May League Track Recreational track and field team. District championship and state championship occur in May. Opponents include Opelika, Auburn, Phenix City, and Alex City. April July Girls Softball Fast-Pitch softball league featuring teams from Macon County and Union Springs. All-star events include Dixie Softball and ARPA State Championships July 16-17 Tuskegee Summer Slam A two day basketball tournament featuring 20 teams from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi. The tournament is the last stop on YSE Belgium (Europe) American Basketball Tour (3-time defending champion). Aug Nov Cheerleading EAYFL Cheerleaders for football team. Cheer championship occur in November of each year. Aug Nov Football Youth football league featuring over 100 players. Teams include Dadeville, Tallassee, Eclectic, Hoseshoe Bend, Loachapoka, Reeltown Aug Nov Volleyball Local Volleyball league featuring 6 teams October State Volleyball Championship Tuskegee Parks and Recreation will host the ARPA State Volleyball Championship.
