ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT MISSION It is the mission of the Houghton College Athletics Department to glorify God by educating and developing men and women leaders, who compete with excellence, lead by character, and exemplify Jesus Christ in our world. HOUGHTON COLLEGE Founded in 1883, Houghton College is a private, Christian institution widely recognized for its liberal arts programs. The Houghton, NY, campus is situated on 1,300 acres of the Allegheny Plateau, 65 miles southeast of Buffalo, New York and 70 miles southwest of Rochester, New York. Houghton College has been nationally recognized by Princeton Review, Forbes, and US News and World Report. As well as being ranked among the top 4% of colleges nationwide, Houghton has been ranked as #4 among CCCU colleges and Best in the Northeast as well as a top national liberal arts college. 3 FACILITIES KERR-PEGULA FIELD HOUSE While serving as the hub of Houghton College s campus the field house will provide a competition-quality, 8 lane 200-meter indoor track, competition tennis courts, state of the art fitness and weight training facilities, practice space for outdoor sports and a venue for other large campus and community events. The field house will also provide expanded opportunities for the college s highly popular intramural programs. The facility will also serve as a spacious venue for guest speakers, concerts, dinners and the college commencement ceremonies; these non-athletic events allow Houghton College to attract the attention of the surrounding communities of Allegany County and Western New York. NIELSEN CENTER The Nielsen Center is home to Houghton College s men s and women s basketball teams as well as the women s volleyball team. The facility features a gymnasium floor that can be divided into three courts, a fitness center and weight room, the George R. Wells Natatorium, an indoor track, racquetball courts, and an auxiliary gym with rock climbing wall. BURKE FIELD Burke Field is a lighted, multisport, artificial turf practice and game field that is used by the Highlander soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey programs. The facility has bleacher seating for 1,300 fans, additional standing room, and seating to accommodate our visitors with disabilities. Burke Field is also home to the Highlander track and field teams who utilize the lighted 400-meter, eight-lane, allweather track. BASEBALL STADIUM The baseball stadium at Houghton College is not only home to the Highlanders but also the New York College Baseball League s Genesee Rapids. The all turf surface makes battling Allegany County s spring weather conditions possible and allows the college and community teams to play their full schedules. The facility is also equipped with lighting to allow for night games. SOFTBALL STADIUM The lighted softball stadium is home to the Houghton Highlanders and is also available to community teams. With nearly a million views annually by 65,000 different viewers the website offers fantastic visibility for sponsoring businesses. The website has replaced print media guides, creating a prominent place for advertisements that will be seen by thousands. FACILITY SIGNAGE Signage at Houghton College is one of the most effective sponsorship opportunities available. Each year home games in the Nielsen Center and at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex attract thousands of spectators and potential customers for your business. Facility signage will receive additional exposure in that the Kerr-Pegula Field House will now be the home of conferences, concerts, trade-shows, and camps. These non-athletic events will greatly increase the amount of traffic in Houghton s facilities. COURTSIDE SCORERS TABLES All users of the Nielsen gymnasium, spectators of men s and women s basketball, and volleyball events will see the signage on these exclusive courtside tables. GAME DAY SPONSORSHIP Game day sponsorships are a great way to reach new and existing customers.
