Opportunity Summary The Department of Nursing and Health Professions at SUNYIT is seeking applicants for tenure track faculty positions at the Instructor, Assistant or Associate Professor level in the following areas of specialization or combination. In order of priority, our needs are: Nursing Education Public Health Nurse Practitioner Nursing Administration Successful candidates will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in the classroom and online, as well as in clinical settings. We will expect the successful hired candidates to continue their research in their chosen academic field or area of clinical specialization. It is important for the candidates to be experienced educators and to either already possess a PhD or be well on their way toward receiving their PhD. SUNYIT is committed to nursing education. University-wide faculty development resources foster individual professional growth. Program Background and Culture SUNYIT confers undergraduate (BS) and graduate degrees in nursing (MS) innovatively serving student learning needs within the context of a fully accredited program. 2

The Mission and Vision of the Program Mission Our mission is to create a caring, transformational environment that promotes professional excellence, lifelong scholarship, and innovation in nursing. We provide evidence-based nursing education that prepares learners to meet health care needs within our local and global communities through technology, leadership, and collaboration. Vision Statement Our vision for nursing programs at SUNYIT is to be a premier innovative cornerstone of nursing education in New York State through the use of technology within a caring context. Nursing is a key strategic component of SUNYIT s educational offerings. The President and College Council are committed to supporting the ongoing development of the program. With demand for qualified graduates of undergraduate and graduate nursing schools exceeding the ability of universities to supply them, SUNYIT is well prepared to continue to increase its strong support for nursing instruction initiatives. A dynamic, young and growing program, SUNYIT nursing is now seeking faculty who are committed to excellence and excel in teaching and clinical practice, as well as research. Current enrollment includes 200 graduate nursing students all of whom are either totally online distance learners or are using a combination of online and classroom synchronous and asynchronous instructional formats. More than 200 undergraduate nursing students also utilize the synchronous and asynchronous instructional format. Technological applications are at the forefront of classroom and clinical educational initiatives. Our synchronous classes can be attended in person or online with the use of Elluminate in Angel [the SUNY Learning Network (SLN)], which is part of the Blackboard system. Videotaped lectures are also available for online viewing by our students. 3

Faculty Opportunities: Full-time Tenure Track Experienced nursing faculty members and developing faculty members at the Instructor, Assistant or Associate Professor rank are asked to respond with interest to the open full-time tenure track faculty positions in the SUNYIT Nursing program. Candidates who are keenly interested in professional growth and development will thrive at SUNYIT. New faculty will possess an earned MS in Nursing and either already possess a Doctorate in Nursing (or in a closely related field) or be close to completion of their PhD. Rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will teach both graduate and undergraduate on-campus, online, and extension-site courses; assist in ongoing program assessment and development; provide academic advisement; and serve on university committees, as well as maintain and pursue clinical and scholarship in their specific field of interest. Future plans include the addition of a Doctor of Nursing Practice to the SUNYIT nursing program. Currently there are 9 Nursing and Health Professions positions at SUNYIT with specializations in the following fields: Health Information Management Nurse Practitioner Nurse Education 4

The Chair of the Department of Nursing and Health Professions is Louise Dean-Kelly, DNS, FNP-BC, RN, Associate Professor. Dr. Dean-Kelly joined the SUNYIT nursing program in the late 1970s. Her experience as both an instructor and administrator adds valuable dimension to the program. Dr. Dean-Kelly is a leader in the Utica Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and she has been involved with international medical missions throughout her career. Uniform teaching load throughout SUNYIT is 12 credits per semester for undergraduate course work and 9 credits per semester for graduate; clinical practice, service and research are above the teaching load. There are releases that faculty may apply for as well as development grants to support faculty endeavors. Excellence in teaching and research are of primary importance at SUNYIT. 10-year CCNE AACN accreditation was received for all programs. 5

Since the last accreditation, the Nursing program has successfully developed and instituted: a. Gerontology nurse practitioner program (MS and certificate of advanced Study-CAS) b. Accelerated RN/BS/MS programs for all graduate programs c. A joint articulation partnership with St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, Utica, New York http://www.secon.edu/ The SUNYIT joint articulation partnership with St. Elizabeth College of Nursing features a unique 1-2-1 program http://www.secon.edu/ about/accreditations/ Here is how it works: SUNYIT accepts and matriculates entering freshman (year 1 ); students who complete their AAS at St Elizabeth College of Nursing over a 2 year period; and finally return to SUNYIT for 1 more year to finish course work for their BS in nursing from SUNYIT. St. Elizabeth College of Nursing has offered Diploma and Associate degrees in nursing for over 100 years and was the first stand-alone single purpose college to receive Middle States Accreditation. There are now 29 freshmen in the AAS nursing program at SUNYIT. SUNYIT is a member of the New York State Future of Nursing initiative sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. New York State was one of 9 states to be awarded a major grant award and SUNYIT s 1-2-1 Nursing Program is a founding participant in this very prestigious nationwide award funding. d. The MS Nursing Education program is totally online. Other MS Nursing programs can be characterized as hybrid since students are required to spend a portion of their time either on campus or in synchronous classes e. The BS Nursing program is being redesigned to be more user friendly as a hybrid program utilizing Elluminate. Students are able to attend class and participate in class discussions on-line or by being present in the classroom. f. Future plans include the addition of a Doctor of Nursing Practice to the SUNYIT nursing program. 6

Position Requirements A master s degree in a clinical area of nursing and specialty clinical nursing skills is required. A doctorate in nursing or a closely related field is preferred. If the candidate does not already have a PhD, progress toward obtaining a PhD should be well underway. Teaching experience Solid clinical experience Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning as evidenced by a presentation during the campus visit and interview Commitment to teaching, service and scholarship consistent with departmental priorities and mission of SUNYIT Technological literacy and commitment to integrate technology in teaching and scholarship Commitment to recruiting, advising, retaining and mentoring qualified students. Familiarity with a variety of learning styles and ability to tailor personalized instruction will be viewed as a definite plus. Candidates must have U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status. Three professional letters of recommendation are required. 7

Location SUNYIT is located in the Utica-Rome, New York, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA)in the center of New York State. The population of the Utica- Rome MSA is approximately 300,000, with a core of highly educated professionals focused in the fields of research and innovation including nanotechnology and healthcare. The quality of life is very good in the area; housing is highly affordable; excellent health care is readily available; the public school system is solid, and there are many opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation year round. Additional Information about SUNYIT Established by the SUNY Board of Trustees on June 14, 1966, the State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome (SUNYIT) is New York s public institute of technology. Originally a graduate and upperdivision institution, the college offered classes in temporary locations and at extension sites for several years until the first buildings were constructed on the permanent campus in Marcy, N.Y. in the 1980s. SUNYIT students pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in technology and professional studies on the SUNYIT campus a high-tech learning environment on hundreds of acres minutes from NYS Thruway Exit 31, Utica. Our students come from all over New York, many other states, and more than a dozen other nations; a growing number of students also take SUNYIT courses and, in some cases, entire degree programs online. 8

As part of a substantial expansion in campus infrastructure, a $13 million student center, a $20 million field house and a $23.5 million residence hall were completed in 2011. The next major construction project planned is a technology complex consisting of the Computer Chip Commercialization Center. SUNYIT s undergraduate degree majors/programs include: accounting, applied computing, applied mathematics, biology, business, civil engineering, civil engineering technology, communication & information design, community & behavioral health, computer engineering technology, computer & information science, computer information systems, electrical and computer engineering, electrical engineering technology, health information management, interdisciplinary studies, mechanical engineering technology, network and computer security, nursing, psychology, and sociology. Graduate degree programs are: master of business administration in technology management; master of science degree programs in accountancy, advanced technology, computer & information science, information design and technology, and telecommunications; and master of science programs in nursing: adult nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, gerontological nurse practitioner, nursing administration, and nursing education. Accelerated BS/MS options are available in computer science, nursing, CID/IDT, and NCS/ telecommunications. 9

In addition to their excellent academic experience, SUNYIT students enjoy campus life in highly rated residence halls. The campus has three residential complexes: Oriskany Residence Hall for freshmen (completed in 2011), and Mohawk and Adirondack Residence Halls.
