3 AMONG THE IN THE NATION THE PRINCETON REVIEW SHOWCASING OUR EXCELLENCE UNIVERSITY DISTINCTIONS Kiplinger s Personal Finance magazine recently named CSULB to its list of the top -100 Best Values in Public Colleges, which ranks four-year institutions that deliver excellent academics, while keeping costs to a minimum. CSULB ranks in the top 10 nationally in awarding bachelor s degrees to minority students by Diverse Issues in Higher Education in its annual list of the Top 100 Degree Producers. CSULB recently announced its first R hodes S cholar, a College of Liberal Ar ts alum. The R hodes S cholarship is considered the world s most prestigious student international scholarship program. CSULB has been recognized as the seventh most secure university/ college in the nation by Security Magazine. CSULB was the only four-year California institution mentioned in the ranking. CSULB fees continue to rank among the lowest of any four-year institution in California. According to a recent U. S. N e w s & Wo r l d Report, CSULB ranked fif th in the west and 11th nationally for having the lowest percentage of students graduating with debt. The College of the Ar ts (COTA) S chool of Ar t is the nation s largest public university-based ar t depar tment. Also, COTA is one of the first to offer a museum studies program on the west coast, and the first in the CSU system to offer the Master of Fine Arts degree. 5 LIFE AT GET ON BOARD & CATCH A WAVE HOUSING & CAMPUS LIFE Living on-campus is convenient and full of opportunities to meet people, make friends and have fun. After all, residential life is a classic college experience! Students living in the residence halls can also enjoy two popular coffeehouses with late-night food service. Other benefits include free cable T V and high-speed Internet access. At the Beachside, Hillside, and Parkside Colleges, students and faculty, together, experience a unique living-learning environment that offers the intimacy of a small residential college, with the opportunities of a large university. With more than 325 clubs and organizations, as well as a thriving student government, CSULB offers a wide variety of recreational, social, cultural and exciting leadership opportunities. These include intramural and club sports, along with fitness classes. The Student Wellness and Recreation Center (SWRC) is a 125,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility with fitness programs, rock climbing walls, as well as basketball, volleyball and badminton courts. The SWRC serves as a place for students to exercise, study, socialize and provides student opportunities for work and internships. SPORTS Long Beach State Athletics sponsors a complete intercollegiate program for women and men. CSULB offers 18 varsity sports at the NCAA Division I level.
