Mac: VPN and RemoteApp Detailed Guide Update: February 2016 What is RemoteApp? RemoteApp is similar to Remote Desktop in that it enables you to access programs using a Mac computer and using the MFDA VPN. Unlike Remote Desktop where you open an entire virtual desktop, with RemoteApp you simply launch the applications you want to use. RemoteApp is more seamless and efficient than Remote Desktop. Applications, such as DM, are launched from the Remote Desktop for Mac application and presented on your computer. Programs that are linked together will seamlessly open and present themselves. As an example, if you launch an Excel document from within RemoteApp-DM, RemoteApp-Excel 2010 will open and present itself on your computer. Just like Remote Desktop, you will not be able to access files from your computer through RemoteApp programs and vice-versa. For example, you will not be able to import a Word document from your personal computer to RemoteApp-DM. RemoteApp works best with: Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later Safari 6.1 and above.
