1 Connecting to Miami University s EHR Solution (GE Centricity) To access GE Centricity from off campus, you will log into one of two dedicated Remote Desktop Servers, often called Terminal Servers (TS), running Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Incoming RDP connections are not allowed through Miami s firewall, so you will need to connect to Miami s network using a Virtual Private Networking client from Cisco Systems. This will create a tunnel through the firewall, and places your machine on the Miami network, just inside the firewall. Your machine will receive an internal IP address on Miami s network, and the network traffic to your machine will go through Miami s network. You will want to disconnect the VPN connection as soon as you are finished using Centricity. Installation 1-1. To Install the VPN client, you will use your browser to go to where you will choose your platform (Windows or Mac OS). Note: This will install the VPN client on the machine where you are accessing the client. You won t be able to download it and copy it to another computer using these instructions.

2 1-2. You will then choose Cisco VPN Client Then click on the link to download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.

A new browser window will open, where you will be prompted to enter your Miami credentials After entering your credentials, the VPN client should automatically start installing, and should autopopulate some information into the client, including the VPN concentrator address (muvpn.muohio.edu).

4 Connecting the VPN Client (Windows) 2-1. After you have installed the VPN Client, you can connect to the Miami network by running the Cisco AnyConnect client that you previously installed. You will need to start it by going to Start, Programs and Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client You will select muvpn.muohio.edu, and click select.

5 2-3. It should also auto-populate your username, but you will have to type in your password each time, and click connect When you finish using the VPN, you will right-click on the Cisco AnyConnect icon in the system tray, and then click disconnect.

6 Connecting Remote Desktop (Windows) After you have started the VPN client, you will want to open a RDP session to one of the Remote Desktop Servers to access the Centricity application. Most versions of Windows have a Remote Desktop Connection client as part of the operating system To access it, you will go to Start, Programs, Accessories, and Remote Desktop Connection.

7 3-2. This will bring up a dialog box that will ask you the computer that you want to connect to. Your professor will indicate the fully qualified domain name that you will need to type in here to access the RDS that he or she wishes you to connect to In this example, let s connect to midwgrdp01.it.muohio.edu (one of the remote desktop servers for Centricity). You will be prompted for credentials, where you will input your Miami username and password.

8 3-4. You should then be taken to the remote desktop, where you will click on the CPS icon on the desktop to run the Centricity application.

9 3-5. You will log in to the Centricity application using your Miami Credentials. You won t initially need to select a location of care, but you will later learn that this will streamline some of your workflows.

10 3-6. Congratulations! You have accessed the Miami University Centricity System When you are finished with your tasks, please log out of the Remote Desktop Server by going to Start and Log off. Merely closing your session by clicking on the X in the top bar will hang your session, and will reduce the number of available sessions on the server. If several students do this, no one will be able to access the server until an administrator can clear all of those sessions. If this happens on a weekend, it won t be fixed until IT services arrives back in the office on Monday.

11 Connecting the VPN Client (MAC OS) After you have installed the VPN Client, you can connect to the Miami network by running the Cisco AnyConnect client that you previously installed Open a new Finder window, then Applications, then Cisco.

12 4-2. Double-click on Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobiliby Client.

13 4-3. Enter your password when prompted. The VPN address (muvpn.muohio.edu) and your username should already be populated.

14 Connect to Remote Desktop (Mac OS) 5-1. To connect to Remote desktop from a Mac, you will need to download the Remote Desktop Connection application from Microsoft. If you have purchased Office 2011, it is included for free. If you haven t, you can download a freestanding client from You can double-click on the Remote Desktop Connection icon in Applications in the Finder.

15 5-2. This will bring up a dialog box that will ask you the computer that you want to connect to. Your professor will indicate the fully qualified domain name that you will need to type in here to access the RDS that he or she wishes you to connect to When you click connect, it will ask for your username and password. Make sure that you set the Domain to IT. If you don t have a box for the domain, you can enter your username as IT\username.

16 5-4. Your remote desktop should appear! You can double-click on the CPS icon on the desktop to launch the application You will log in to the Centricity application using your Miami Credentials.
