Hunger and pverty are assciated with higher disease rates and lwer life expectancy On the ppsite end, ne in three Trnt children (age 2-11) is either verweight r bese Newcmers face challenges in adapting t new ways t access, prepare and eat fd in Canada, while attempting t preserve their healthful fd knwledge and practices Research In a 2009 TPH cmmunity cnsultatin n fd issues, newcmers identified these fd issues: affrdability f fd and understanding where less expensive fd is sld; adjusting t weekly r bi-weekly shpping, lack f walkable fd stres; negtiating fd chices with children; schl lunches; understanding fd labels; adapting their fd skills t Trnt. Typical Issues Often, fd is prepared after a full day's wrk and time cnstraints are an issue Many families d nt have vehicles and use the transit system t shp.
