ASHTON GATE STADIUM: OUR HOME SINCE 1904 apt marketing & pr 01242 250692 www.aptmarketing.co.uk ABOUT BRISTOL CITY FOOTBALL CLUB Bristol City Football club has an illustrious and rich heritage. Formed in 1897, when the club joined the football league in 1901 they became one of only two league clubs south of Birmingham. The club has been based in Ashton Gate since 1904 and recorded peak crowd attendance of 43,335 during a 1935 FA Cup game between Bristol City and Preston North End. Although the current capacity is over 21,497, the npower championship club are in the process of finalising plans to build a new 30,000 seater stadium. The crowd capacity has the potential of rising to 44,000; which would bring it back to record levels. Our football league honours include famously winning the FA Cup over Liverpool at Anfield in 1994, being just one game away from the premier league in 2008 when we reached the play-off final at Wembley and being Football League Trophy winners in 1985-6 and 2002-3. The club won 14 consecutive league games in 1905... a record we still proudly hold alongside Preston and Manchester United. The Robins has long supported local talent. In the 1950 s local boy John Atyeo began his Bristol city career, playing 645 games and scoring 350 goals. During his time representing England he was never on the losing side, booked or sent off the pitch. The club s youth programme continues to nurture talented local players; running as an FA-licensed Academy since 1998, hundreds of young City players have developing their game against some of the top clubs in the country, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. As well as producing the likes of Cole Skuse and Louis Carey for the current first team, the club has also sold on Academy graduates over the years, such as Leroy Lita to Reading for 1m in 2005 and David Cotterill to Wigan Athletic for 2m a year later.
