Grounding the Shields Shielded reader wire is required for all Brivo ACS5000 installations. The shield for each reader run should be tied to the grounding lug located in the lower left corner of the ACS5000 panel chassis. The chassis should then be grounded to a reliable earth ground. An electrical ground is usually not acceptable for Brivo installations, therefore it should not be considered for the panel ground. The diagram below shows a typical earth ground. Reader The reader shield should never be connected at the reader Reader Grounding Bus To ensure that the reader shield does not make contact with board level components or other wires, either use a jacketed 18AWG cable between the drain or shield and the grounding lug, or use heat shrink in order to isolate the drain or shield.! NEVER CONNECT YOUR GROUND WHILE THE PANEL EQUIPMENT IS ENERGIZED. DISCONNECT ALL BATTERIES AND REMOVE AC POWER FROM THE PANEL PRIOR TO CONNECTING GROUNDS. 4

Preface Brivo Systems conforms to the SIA Access Control Standard Protocol for the 26-bit Wiegand Reader Interface. Due to varieties of implementation in Wiegand, Brivo chooses to validate the reader in the marketplace for compatibility and the reliability between two systems. In the event that you are attempting to purchase or install a reader to be used with a Brivo ACS5000 Panel, it is recommended that you first review the Reader Wiring Guide for known compatible readers. Any reader that is not currently covered under the ACS5000 Reader Wiring Guide can be tested and added to the guide. Instructions on having a reader tested are contained at the end of this document. Legacy readers may be covered under previous versions of the ACS5000 Reader Wiring Guide. Legacy readers have been removed from the current ACS5000 Reader Wiring Guide due to a lack of hardware to validate operation. If a legacy reader is to be used, please contact Technical Support for access to a previous version that may include the legacy reader. The readers that have been validated, yet omitted from this guide are: AWID Sentinel-Prox KP-6840 AWID Sentinel-Prox LR-911 AWID Sentinel-Prox MM-6800 AWID Sentinel-Prox MR-1824 AWID Sentinel-Prox SP-6820 AWID Sentinel-Prox SR-2400 Northern BR-7 Barcode Reader Bioscrypt V Smart, A Bioscrypt VeriProx, V, H If a previously supported reader is not included in this guide and not listed above, that reader is no longer valid for use with the ACS5000. Please contact Brivo Technical Support should you have any questions. 5

HID 5355 ProxPro The HID ProxPro readers are connected at a terminal strip inside the reader housing. The wiring diagram shows the expected wire colors for the connection between the ProxPro and the ACS5000.
