3 1: INTRODUCTION This document describes an advanced installation, in which the ISONAS Access Control System (ACS) is integrated with a TagMaster System for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) to control a gate / barrier when entering or exiting a parking location (i.e. garage, lot, or nesting). Installation is intended to be completed by a qualified service technician. They should be comfortable and familiar with the installation concepts of the ISONAS Access Control System, and the TagMaster LR-series readers. 1.1: PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The customer has a gated parking garage that they wish to control from their corporate ISONAS Access Control System. The business has a few maintenance vehicles which enter the garage frequently, and those vehicles will be equipped with long-range credentials (TagMaster ID-tags) 1.2: SOLUTION OVERVIEW: Using next-generation TagMaster RFID readers (which operates with 2.45 GHz frequency), tagged vehicles gain fast and convenient parking garage access, completely hands-free, without causing the driver to stop, open the car window, fumble to search for the card and position the card in a specific direction relative to the reader. This reduces wait times at the gate to promote optimal traffic flow, protects the driver from the weather elements, and increases their comfort and safety. The TagMaster LR-series Long-range Reader has a read range capability of up to 33 feet*. The ISONAS PowerNet will verify that the approaching vehicle (who), is allowed access at this location (where), and at this time (when). If the vehicle is allowed to enter, then the PowerNet will direct the gate to open. This activity is logged by the corporate access control system. With the flexibility of the PowerNet s TCP/IP command and control infrastructure, the gate might be locate next to the customer s main office, or it might be located 500 miles away at a remote maintenance facility. *The actual reading range depends on the TagMaster ID-tag, settings of the LR-Series Reader, and environmental conditions. 4 The physical layout of the solution is shown in Figure 1 below. Figure 1 When an ID-tag equipped vehicle approaches the gate, its presence is detected by the TagMaster LR-series reader. The LR-series reader reports the vehicle s ID-tag number to the ISONAS PowerNet reader-controller using the RS-232 data connection. Depending on how Crystal Matrix is configured, the PowerNet reader either makes the admit/reject decision on its own, or reports the presented credential information over the IP Network to the host, and the host makes the admit/reject decision. If access is granted then the PowerNet s relay is operated to activate the gate s controller. & TagMaster Long-Range Readers 4

5 1.3: ASSUMPTIONS: There are multiple ways that the ISONAS system can be configured to accomplish a certain task. Examples noted here show one possible configuration among many others - that addresses the client s needs Assumptions made: 1. The customer s vehicles will be equipped with long-range credentials (i.e. TagMaster s ID-tags). 2. All of the components at the gate will be powered by a standard 24VDC power supply with a Listed or Certified Power Supply, Class 2 or LPS power source suitable for outdoor use, rated 24Vdc 1A minimum. 2: SOLUTION DETAILS 2.1: CORE COMPONENT REQUIRMENTS ISONAS PowerNet Reader-Controller TagMaster LR-6 Reader (other TagMaster models may be required, depending on the site s read range specifications, along with appropriate ID- Tags) o LR-series Reader firmware that is compatible with the PowerNet. ISONAS Crystal Matrix host software 2.1.1: DATA COMMUNICATIONS CONFIGURATION The RS-232 data being passed between the TagMaster Reader and the PowerNet should be configured to meet these criteria: 1. Communications Setting. a baud, 8 Bits, No Parity, 1 Stop Bit, No Flow Control 2. Data Format: a. ASCII character data. b. Credential ID between 1 to 9 ASCII characters (numeric only). c. Two message terminating characters for each message: i. Carriage Return (decimal 13) and Line Feed (decimal 10) TagMaster Long-Range Readers 5

6 2.2: HARDWARE CONFIGURATION Prior to beginning the installation, the technician should have copies of, and be familiar with, the installation instructions for both the PowerNet Reader- Controller and the TagMaster LR-series reader : WIRING CONFIGURATION The physical wiring of the components is described in the tables below. The Readers wiring is Class 2 and shall be installed in accordance with the local and national codes and/or applicable jurisdictions (I.e. 7 2.2.2: JUMPER PIN CONFIGURATION The PowerNet has jumper pins that control certain configuration options. Below are the suggested jumper pin settings for this application. PowerNet is being powered with 24VDC power PowerNet s lock relay is controlling a logic signal for the gate motor controller. Jumper Pin Settings Component Jumper Block Pins to Connect PowerNet Reader-Controller (24Vdc power provided thru Pigtail) JP PowerNet Reader-Controller JP2 None (Relay provides dry-contact) Note: Reference the current ISONAS Installation and Wiring guide for detailed instructions on jumper pin configuration : TAGMASTER LR-6 CONFIGURATION The TagMaster LR-series reader needs be equipped with the appropriate software, and configured to support the RS-232 interface. The TagMaster reader should be ordered from TagMasterNA with the ISONAS configuration specified. This will simplify the installation process, because the reader will arrive fully configured for use with the PowerNet reader-controller. If you are installing a TagMaster Reader that was not ordered with this option, please contact TagMasterNA for assistance. Pin 3 - Do not use Pin 4 - Do not use J42 = RS-232 Pin 1 - TX = Transmitted data Pin 2 - RX = Received data Pin 3 - GND = Ground From LR-6 Reader to PowerNet To LR-6 Reader from PowerNet P1 = Ethernet RJ45 Connector The Ethernet connector has eight pins and the wire scheme is based on the T568A standard. The pins are wired straight through the cable, that is, pins 1 through 8 on one end are connected to pins 1 through 8 on the other end. Note: Please refer to the current TagMaster installation instructions for your reader s exact board layout. TagMaster Long-Range Readers 8

9 2.3: SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION The Crystal Matrix software has some specific requirements for the Door and People records : CRYSTAL MATRIX CONFIGURATION This section lists configuration settings that are specific to the TagMaster LR-series reader configuration. In addition, standard Crystal Matrix configuration relate to granting personnel access though the PowerNet reader is also required, but is not detailed here. Door Settings --- The ISONAS PowerNet that is installed at the gate must have its Serial Port configured properly. Below is a display of the proper serial port settings. When the PowerNet is connected to an external RS-232 device that uses CF/LF for the message delimiter, the integrated keypad will not be available. TagMaster Long-Range Readers 9

10 From the Door window, confirm that the PowerNet s PIC Microcode is version or higher. People Settings --- The credentials that are to be accepted at the gate must be configured to be valid from an External Device, as shown in the diagram below. TagMaster Long-Range Readers 10

11 3: INSTALLATION TESTING PROCEDURE Once the component have been proper connected, powered, and configured, a quick overall test can confirm the system is working properly. If the overall test is not successful, then some sub-component tests should be run. 3.1: OVERALL SYSTEM TEST 1. Start the CSUP that controls the PowerNet reader-controller from the Crystal Matrix Administrator application. 2. Open the Crystal Matrix Monitor application 3. From the Monitor application, request an Admit action from the PowerNet a. Verify the action is logged, and the PowerNet s Green LED comes on. b. If this does not happen, follow standard ISONAS troubleshooting techniques. 4. Present a TagMaster ID-tag to the LR-series reader 5. Observe the Crystal Matrix Monitor. a. Verify that the TagMaster ID-tag s number appears in the Monitor s history log. b. If the credential presentation does not get logged, follow the TagMaster web test procedure below. 3.2: TAGMASTER WEB TEST How to use a Direct Ethernet Connection: The Reader can be connected to a PC with an Ethernet cable. When connected directly to a PC, the Reader uses a fixed IP address, which at delivery is set to The IP address of the PC will have to be set to an address that is in the same gateway and subnet. A suitable address is In Windows XP the IP address can be configured like this: Open the Control Panel Select Network Connections Select Local Area Connection Press the Properties button Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list and press the Properties button Select Use the following IP address Enter for the IP address and Default gateway Enter for the subnet mask Close all windows by pressing OK or Close TagMaster Long-Range Readers 11

12 Perform a basic reading test as follows: Open up a Web browser and type in , then hit the Enter key Log in with User name: admin and Password: qwerty (all lower case letters) Go to the Web Tools. by selecting it from the left column on the Web Interface. Select ID-tag R/W to see the right column change to ID-tag Read/Write. Place an ID-tag in front of the Reader, with the ID-tag on the object where it normally will be mounted. Perform repeated readings while simultaneously moving the IDtag along the planned movement path and check that the ID-tag can be read in all anticipated positions. Each reported reading will be indicated by a beep. TagMaster Long-Range Readers 12
