1 Instructions Page 1 Connections The WxGoos-1 is a self-contained web server and requires 6vdc of power at 300ma. A center-positive 2.1 mm plug is used. There are five ports: 1. 10/100 Ethernet RJ-45 receptacle 2. Power input 3. Eight RJ-11 serial ports for remote sensors and accessory communication. 4. Three (C,1,2,3,C) general purpose 0-5vdc analog sensing ports with built-in loop current. Typically used for door position sensing but can measure any low-impedance (>5K ohm) dc signal. 5. Two LED lamps show serial bus activity. Cat 5 Ethernet Cable 6V DC Power Supply (to wall) WxGoos-1 Activity LEDs Photosensor 8 Ports To Remote Sensors via RJ-11: Three 0-5V DC Inputs - Temperature Typically Door Sensors - Air Flow/Temperature Two Leads - Current Transformer C = Common Setting an IP Address The WxGoos has a permanent IP address used for initial set-up and to access the unit if you forget the address that you assign to it. The permanent address is shown on the front of the WxGoos case: IP: Mask: Gateway: First time setup: 1. Connect the WxGoos to your computer using either a hub or a cross-over cable 2. On your computer, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network and Dial Up Connections 3. Right Click on Local Area Connection and select Properties 4. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/ IP) and select Properties 5. Select the option to Use the following IP address and enter: a. IP Address b. Mask c. Gateway Click OK twice 7. You can now access the unit using your web browser. 2 Instructions Page 2 Typical Network Card Setting The PC or Laptop s Network Interface Card must be configured to recognize the 192 class address. Go to Control Panel or Network Settings and temporarily set your Network Card to the addresses shown on the drawing. 6V DC Power Supply (to wall) Be sure to disable the DHCP setting button. The WxGoos-1 is capable of DHCP operation but that setting can be used once the unit is installed. Remote Temperature Sensors Up to 16 Remote Temperature Sensors can be attached to the WxGoos-1. Each Sensor has a unique 64 bit address. The sensors are automatically discovered and added to the web page information. The supplied wires can be extended (or shortened) using Cat 3 wire or other telephone-type wire. Note that the sensor wiring must be straight-through: reversing polarity will cause all sensors to become temporarily disabled until the crossed-over wire is removed. Connecting Remote Temperature Sensors Using Splitter Blocks - up to 16 per WxGoos-1 WeatherGoose Single sensor per port The sensors use a low speed serial network which is subject to network signalling constraints. Star configurations limit cable length; long, single sensor installations give maximum cable length. Typical installations should yield runs of hundreds of feet. Users report that six Remote Temperature Sensors with 100 cables function, but the seventh will not discover.

3 Instructions Page 3 Current Transformer - Direct Current Transformer - Direct Current Transducers convert alternating current (ac) current into 0-5vdc signals. The output is linear. Connect up to three directly into the small screw terminals labeled C,1,2,3,C. The C terminals are negative or ground and the numbered terminals are positive. You can rename the Current Transformers in the Display tab. Use 24 awg wire, solid or stranded, 300' max. length Current Transformers - Serial Bus Interface Units Where more than three current measurements are needed, Serial Bus Interface Units can be used. Each Sensor has a unique 64 bit address. The sensors are automatically discovered and added to the web page information. To WxGoos RJ-11 Connectors Cat 3 or silky-satin telephone wire Green to (-) Red to (+) The supplied wires can be extended (or shortened) using Cat 3 wire or other telephone-type wire. The pig-tail wires extending from the small interface units are 24 awg stranded wire and can be extended by at least 100 using wire nuts or by soldering extension wire and insulating with shrink wrap. 24 gauge solid wire Twisted Pair Current Transformer Maximum aggregate cable length 600 ft.

4 Instructions Page 4 Door Switch Wiring - Three The most common door switch configuration uses three magnetic door switches. No polarity observance is required. Use 24 awg solid wire. Either Normally Open or Normally Closed switches can be used. NC switches are recommended as the door will be declared open if the connecting wire is broken. Door Switches Door sensors can be renamed in the Display tab. Normally closed switches are suggested Note that there is a significant delay in reporting door open due to inherent Internet delays. Extending Door Switches If more than three door switches are needed, additional switches can be added in serial. If one opens, the chain is broken, and thus the entire group is classified as open. Door Switches - Extended There is no limit to the number of switches that can be used except wire length, which maxes out at around 400. Normally closed switches are required

5 Instructions Page 5 Water Sensor Water sensors act as conductivity bridges. To function, the water sensor must be set directly on the floor. Water Sensors A dry sensor reads 99 and a wet sensor reads 30 or below. Connect using awg 24 wire with a maximum aggregate cable length of around 400. Up to three sensors may be used independently. The illustration at right shows two sensors. Water sensors can be renamed in the Display tab. Dry = 99 Wet <=30 AXIS IP-Enabled Web Cam To set up the AXIS web cam for use with the WeatherGoose, complete the directions included with the camera and then follow these steps: 1. Make sure that the camera is set to allow anonymous access: Select Setup on the AXIS Camera s main page. Select Users from the list at left. Check the box that says Enable anonymous viewer login (no user name or password required). Save the changes and close the window. 2. Enter the IP address of the camera into the AXIS Camera Configuration box under the Configuration tab of the WeatherGoose and hit Save Changes. 3. A live image will appear on the Display tab, under the internal sensor readings.

6 Instructions Page 6 Power Egg The Power Egg may be used as a standalone device or attached to a WeatherGoose via a straight through phone cable. Straight Through Wire Standard phone cable will not work, as the wires on both ends are not in the same orientation. The standard order for both ends of a straight through wire is (from left to right): Yellow - Green - Red - Black The order for one end of a crossover wire is (from left to right): Black - Red - Green - Yellow The other end uses standard order. Crossover Wire Note that wire type is determined by the pinouts of the connectors when the connectors are held with the pins facing upward. Using Splitters and Hubs Any serial device (Remote Temperature Sensors, Power Eggs, Serial Bus Interface Units, etc.) may be attached to the WeatherGoose via a telephone splitter or 5-port hub. Connect devices without built-in cables to the splitter or hub using straight through cables. Devices with attached cables should be plugged directly into the hub or splitter. Connect a 2 or 3 port splitter to the WeatherGoose using a crossover cable.
