3 Instruction Manual Warnings This is for 12v Battery systems only and will become defective and VOID warranty if used on anything other than a negative ground 12v battery system with both batteries being of the same nominal voltage. Dual battery system charges batteries in parallel and can be used on early and late model sophisticated electronic vehicles. ALWAYS read full instructions before assembly and be sure to abide by any recommendations in your vehicle manufacturers handbook in conjunction with this instruction manual..ensure engine is off with keys out of the ignition, vehicle in park or Neutral with handbrake on before starting installation. Ensure working area is safe from any objects that may cause harm. Start to Install Firstly you will need to disconnect the main Vehicles negative battery terminal, ensuring that you have your vehicles radio security CODE if needed, as most late model vehicles radio will need to be re-entered once completed otherwise radio will not operate once reconnected without the code. Position your Auxiliary battery into the location and securely mount before proceeding, at this stage do not connect any cables. Time to mount the Dual battery controller, ensuring to keep as close to the Main battery as possible in a secure location where the 2 terminals Main and Aux will not be close to the vehicles body to ensure shorting out will not occur when cable terminals are fitted later and we suggest you place no further away than 5 Metres from the main battery, you can fix the controller direct to the vehicle via the 2 mounting holes on the controller or use the L bracket and saddle supplied to mount the L bracket at your preferred angle. The kit is supplied with 6 Metres of red 20mm² cable which firstly is to run between the vehicles main positive battery terminal and the main terminal on the dual controller, measure out the cable needed ensuring to work out the path first where you will run the cable to go, in a position where you will be able to use the supplied loom ties to keep the cable away from any heated areas such as the exhaust, engine heat etc. Then attach the supplied 8mm eye lugs to both ends by either solder or crimping the terminals. Auxiliary battery Positive terminal is now mounted to the red Auxiliary junction box which has the fitted main 150Amp fuse and 2 x 30amp Auxiliary fuses which can be used later for the fridge, radios, lights etc. Now using the remaining red cable, cut it to your needed length thus for between the Auxiliary terminal on the dual battery controller and the 150Amp inline fuse at the Auxiliary batteries junction box, then solder or crimp on the supplied terminal lugs to each end of the cable and put into place and then loom tie ensuring all is secure. Now it is time to start seeing some progress, get the black earth lead which is coming out of the dual battery controller fitted with the eye terminal and find a close earth on the body of your vehicle which offers a clean and unpainted surface to mount to, many vehicles faults result from a bad earth so make sure it is clean and secure when done. 2
4 Reconnect the Main Battery positive terminal and now you will see the red power light flashing on the dual battery controller showing the correct connection at this stage. Get the supplied black 26mm² cable then you need to run from the Auxiliary battery negative Junction Centre bolt to the engine block in a position where it wont get effected by moving parts or excessive heat, you can also find a position on the chassis if no available point to connect onto the engine block, ensure bolt position is a CLEAN surface, cut cable to length and solder or crimp onto each end of the cable. Then with the supplied eye lugs, fit cable securely with provided loom ties, now you will see the red power light is on constantly, this will now stay on constantly while both batteries are connected and you should not worry about this light being on at all times as the power draw is minimal like the memory function on your radio, it of course draws power but not enough to become a battery draining issue. You can now wire up any of your Accessories to your Auxiliary battery using the supplied 2 x 30amp inline fuses in the Auxiliary positive terminal junction box or via your own inline fuse, also turn on your ignition and reset any of your memory coded devices that may need resetting. Make sure all tools are out of the under bonnet and working area and then you are ready to start the vehicle to perform some tests so you know all is operating correctly, 1: When vehicle is started check on the dual battery controller and now you will see the red (power) and blue (charging) lights are both on, this means both batteries are now joined and charging together, if charge light has not come on then raise idle slightly for a moment as joint charging will not occur till the main battery gets higher than 13.4v though in most cases this is found at simple idle speed. 2: Now turn the engine off and you should see that still both the power and charge lights are on the dual battery controller and they will stay illuminated while both batteries are coming back down to there stable voltages, once main battery drops below 12.8v this will trigger a 60 second delay and then the charge light will go off which means at this point the 2 batteries are isolated circuits and neither can drain from each others circuits, if the charge light remains on for a longer than expected period you can simply turn on anything such as your headlights which will make either or both battery voltages drop below the 12.8v mark which will trigger the 60 second timer to deactivate the combined circuit between main and Auxiliary batteries, though really in normal conditions when vehicle has been running and then turned off it may be normal for both batteries to stay connected for longer than 5 minutes while either battery is above 12.8v which this is fine to occur. 3: Now you can test the override button, this is ideal for if your main battery is low though still above 7v but your Auxiliary battery still has charge, so you can jump start your main battery from your Auxiliary battery without any jumper leads. Simply ensure vehicle is turned off at the key, press the override button on the dual battery controller and see the green override light come on, both batteries are now joined, start the vehicle and once charge reaches to 13.4v you will see the green override light will go out and the blue charge light will illuminate showing is back into normal charge state. At anytime while the override light is illuminated you can press the override button again to disengage the override function, keeping in mind the override function will not illuminate or offer any advantage when the controller is in the charge light state as both batteries are already joined at this time. 3
5 HELPFUL TIPS If the Auxillary battery is reverse connected or has a charge of just 3v or less or has a bad connection be it the earth or positive connection: the red power light will flash and will not go into the charged state when vehicle is started. If over charging from the alternator or spike occurs while engine is running and in the charge state then the controller will disengage charging to the Auxillary battery and blue charge light will flash until vehicle is turned off and main battery drops below 12.8v which then will reset itself and is ready for you to restart vehicle to see if the issue is still present, if is still present then we suggest to contact your vehicle dealer or an auto electrician before further motoring. If put in the override mode and over charging from the alternator or spike occures while engine is running while in the override state then the controller will disengage charging to the Auxillary battery and green override light will flash until the vehicle is turned off and the main battery drops below 12.8v which then will reset itself and is then ready for you to restart the vehicle to see if the issue is still present, if it is still present we suggest you contact your vehicle dealer or auto electrician before further motoring. Dual battery controller by Brite Led Tech is fully waterproof and can be used for Automotive Vehicles and Watercrafts, it also can be pressure washed (suggest while vehicle turned off), as we know dual batteries are commonly fitted to 4wd vehicles which get muddy under the bonnet, as well as boats out in the bay and there owners wanting to give them a wash down at the end of the day.with the Brite led tech Dual battery smart controllers you can pressure wash as you like as these controllers are Ip68 rated offering full submersion against any water intake. Keeping in mind there are external power cables and water can cause short circuits to your vehicles electrical systems which would put the dual battery controller into a safe mode and not effect the controller, though with the vehicles electronics you should always try to avoid submersion for a long periods of time.
