Virdi Distributin SA (Pty) Ltd UNIS Quick Installatin Guide 1. Descriptin UNIS is ViRDI's Access Cntrl, Template & Terminal Management Cmmand and Cntrl Interface. Frm UNIS the user can: Manage system users and visitrs Manage fingerprint templates and enrlment Manage ViRDI bimetric terminals Manage ViRDI dr cntrllers and intruder detectin systems Manage and create Access Cntrl rules Manage alarms and events Mnitr the system in real time UNIS prvides a full reprting functin n all devices, events and actins. The database serves as raw infrmatin fr either the prprietary UNI-Wrk T&A slutin r fr Third party T&A slutins 2. Sftware Requirements a. Operating System UNIS is a Micrsft based sftware suite. It can perate n bth 32bit and 64bit systems. UNIS nly perates n the fllwing perating systems: Micrsft XP SP2 Vista Windws 7 Windws 8.1 Micrsft Server 2008 R2 Micrsft Server 2012 R2 b. Database Optins UNIS utilises a Database t stre infrmatin regarding the system. UNIS can utilise ne f the fllwing Database sftware suites Access (Native t Micrsft OS) Micrsft SQL Express Micrsft SQL UNIS can als use the fllwing Database ptins althugh the user must be cautined that cnfiguratin is extremely time cnsuming. It is advised that a Database specialist be emplyed t assist with cnfiguratin Micrsft MySQL Oracle 3. Hardware Requirements a. UNIS Client A nrmal desktp PC is required. There are n specific hardware requirements fr client PC and it will even perate n Windws 8.1 Mbile Tablet b. UNIS Server Dependant n the size f the Access Cntrl system the requirement may vary frm a nrmal desktp PC t Cre i7 architecture. Hard Drive capacity will be the user s prergative. It is advised that the PC running the UNIS server sftware be a stand-alne unit. Once again dependant n size f the system the PC can be shared with ther applicatins c. SQL / Database Server The architecture f the SQL / Database server is fr the user t decide. It is advisable that the SQL server be a managed device www.virditech.c.za 2 P a g e

UNIS Sftware Installatin Open the flder that cntains the UNIS installatin files Duble click n the file named setup When User Accunt Cntrl enquires abut permissin click Yes Fllw the prmpts by clicking Next Cmplete the cmpany infrmatin Fill in ALL the details as UNIS will nt prceed withut cmplete and valid infrmatin Click n the icn labelled Next Read and Accept the License Agreement Select the installatin destinatin (if different frm default path) www.virditech.c.za 3 P a g e

This must be installed n the PC that will be used fr Access Cntrl applicatins. This will cnfigure the Access Database autmatically 5. Netwrk Cnfiguratin Only ne instance f the Server sftware can be installed per system. If SQL Express r SQL is t be used please script and cnvert the Database (Read the dcument UNIS_SQL_DB_ENG_v1.0.pdf available frm supprt@virditech.c.za ) If yu select Client nly the GUI interface will be installed. This must be installed n all remte PC that will have access t the Access Cntrl system N Database is used with the UNIS Remte Manager Up t 20 simultaneus client cnnectins can ccur at any given time t the Server sftware, if MS Access is used hwever with SQL there is n limitatin. a. Firewalls Firewalls need t be cnfigured t allw the prts t cmmunicate between devices and the UNIS Server sftware and between the UNIS server sftware and the Database server. Virdi Distributin SA (Pty) Ltd UNIS Quick Installatin Guide Select Outbund Rule Select New Rule Fllw the steps described in creating a new rule fr Inbund Rules fr prts 9870, 9871 and 9872 fr Outbund Rules If a hardware firewall, antivirus firewall, enterprise sftware firewall r ruter is being used the abve prts must be exempted n these firewalls as well PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL FREE ANTIVIRUS PROGRAMS ARE DELETED FROM THE SYSTEM. These antivirus prgrams use elements f the Windws firewall that cannt be cnfigured and will blck cmmunicatin acrss the netwrk between devices, UNIS server and database server. 6. Netwrk Settings The VIRDI system cmmunicates via Unit ID t the ViRDI Terminal and via Static IP Address t the Server sftware IP Addressing fr the ViRDI System: www.virditech.c.za 7 P a g e
Virdi Distributin SA (Pty) Ltd UNIS Quick Installatin Guide The Server must have a Static IP address in rder fr ViRDI terminals and the remte client sftware t cmmunicate with the Database Terminals can use either Static IP Address r DHCP addressing If a Static IP is used the IP range must be under the same dmain range as the Server If DHCP is used it is advisable that the MAC address f the Terminal is married t an IP range in the ruting tables f the netwrk. This reslves the issue f IP cnflicts Every ViRDI terminal must be assigned a unique Terminal ID bth n the terminal and n the UNIS sftware (discussed later). This ID must be a 4 digit numerical ID starting with 0001. a. Server IP Addressing Open Cntrl Panel Select Netwrk and Sharing Centre Select Change Adaptr Settings www.virditech.c.za 8 P a g e

Usually this is a LAN cnnectin marked as Ethernet Right click and select Prperties Scrll dwn and select TCP/IP v4 and Click n Prperties The TCP/IPv4 Cntrl Panel will Open Select Use the fllwing IP and enter the IP address www.virditech.c.za 9 P a g e
Virdi Distributin SA (Pty) Ltd UNIS Quick Installatin Guide The default IP Address n the ViRDI Terminal is 192.168.000.003 and the default Server IP n the ViRDI terminal is 192.168.000.002. These can be changed as required. REMEMBER the Server must have a Static IP. Open a Cmmand Prmpt interface n the Server and run the fllwing tests t ensure that there is cmmunicatin acrss the netwrk between the ViRDI terminal and the server PING e.g. ping 192.168.000.003 TELNET e.g. telnet 192.168.000.003 9870 [telnet_ip address_prt number]. If a cnnectin is made the Server will cnnect directly t the Terminal. If a cnnectin is made clse the Cmmand Prmpt windw D Nt issue any cmmands Ensure that the TELNET client is installed frm the Windws Prgrams and Features ptins. It frms part f the Operating System and des nt need t be dwnladed If either f these test fail ensure that all prts are pened (take special nte n Anti-Virus prducts such as Bitdefender r Kaspersky), that IP addresses are set crrectly bth in the terminals and n the Server and that there are n IP cnflicts that exist acrss the netwrk. Als ensure that there is prper QS acrss the netwrk as sub-standard switching gear will als result in n r limited cmmunicatin. 7. UNIS First Use a. First Use - Server Duble Click n the UNIS Remte Manager icn frm either Prgram Files r frm the Desktp If the User Accunt Cntrl enquires abut permissin click Yes The belw Admin Lgn GUI will pen Fr first use / Master Administratr lgn click n the icn as indicated abve until it shws a tick mark next t it. The Admin ID will autmatically display 0000000 and will be greyed ut The default first use passwrd is the numerical 1 When new administratrs are added their Admin ID and passwrd will allw them the necessary access as determined by the Master Administratr Please change the Master Passwrd after cnfiguratin is dne The Master Lgn allws fr ALL functinality and rights within UNIS t be available while Administratrs can be assigned certain rights and functinality. First Use Remte Client Duble Click n the UNIS Remte Manager icn frm either Prgram Files r frm the Desktp When the User Accunt Cntrl enquires abut permissin click Yes The belw GUI will pen The IP address f 127.0.0.1 is a Lk Back address which means the Server sftware is lking back at the same PC t access the Authenticatin server and the Database server If yu are using the Access database installed n the Server r yu are using SQL Express / SQL that is installed n the same PC as where the UNIS Server is installed please change the Database Server and Authenticatin Server t the Static IP Address f the PC where UNIS Server is installed (as per pint 6 abve) If yu are using a dedicated server (SQL) that is installed n a different PC t where the UNIS Server is installed change the Database Server t the Static IP Address f the standalne database server and then change the Authenticatin Server t the Static IP Address f the PC where the UNIS Server is installed. Unless the Netwrk Administratr has assigned different prts t the ViRDI system d nt change the prts frm 9872 fr Database and 9871 fr Authenticatin servers. Virdi Distributin SA (Pty) Ltd UNIS Quick Installatin Guide Settings regarding templates and terminal behaviur / actins can be changed here Ensure the fllwing is un-ticked: Allw similar fingerprints t be registered Allw terminal t verwrite users unless enrlling frm terminals Ensure the fllwing is ticked Autmatically uplad lg data frm terminal Aut synchrnize terminal when user inf is mdified Als ensure that the Fingerprint Template Frmat is set t UNION. Ensure all values under Archive Perid is set t 0 if this has been changed all data will be deleted after the value set e.g. if the value is 30 the system will delete all data after 30 days and will nly keep the last 30 days data in the lg. All ther settings are ptinal b. User Enrlment There are tw ways f adding a users fingerprint t the system By enrlling the user n the ViRDI terminal and then transferring the template back t the sftware fr the additin f details such as name, emplyee number etc. This is nt advisable as there is n recurse t judge the quality f the fingerprint template and may result in pr perfrmance f the system Only 2-6 fingers (Terminal dependant) can be enrlled nt the system thereby creating a security risk since the same user can have multiple fingerprint enrlled under different user prfiles If multiple terminals are used t enrl users fingerprints this may result n duplicate unique User ID s being created The prcess is tedius as all prfiles have t be distributed nce the additin f prfile infrmatin is cmplete. By enrlling the user directly nt the sftware with an FOH02 USB take-n reader This allws fr the fingerprint t be scred n quality which translates t a better enrlment and better usability f the system www.virditech.c.za 15 P a g e

Enrlling a User n the Terminal 6 2 3 1 4 5 Enrl the user n the terminal (specific enrlment instructins) as per terminal installatin and user manual Click n Side Bar Menu n User Management Click n Terminal User (1) A new windw will pen titled Terminal User Select the terminal used fr enrlment frm the drp dwn selectin (2) Click n Recall (3) Select the user(s) yu want t retrieve by selecting the tick bx n the left f the unique User ID under the heading C (4) Click n Retreve (5) Once the templates have been retrieved int the sftware the additin f details t the prfile (pint c belw) can be cmpleted by duble clicking n the specific user in the main User Infrmatin table (6) www.virditech.c.za 16 P a g e

Enrlling a User n the Sftware Click n Side Menu Bar n Add User A new windw will pen entitled User Registratin Fill in the details fr the prfile. A unique User ID can be created by unticking the User ID used as Emplyee ID (Autmatic creatin) tick bx. This can be fund under the Tp Bar Menu under Tls and then Envirnment Settings. If the icn is red there is n cmmunicatin, if the icn is green the terminal and the sftware is cmmunicating If an pen r clsed dr icn is visible the terminal has been set t mnitr dr status. This can be tggled n and ff n the terminal but if the functin is t be used the NO/NC utput frm the lck must be cnnected t the digital I/O in the terminal itself (please refer t installatin and user manuals). If a red blck with a blt thrugh it displays it indicates that the terminal is in tamper cnditin and must be prperly munted against the munting bracket.
