LifeBook C Series Notebook BIOS C Series BIOS BIOS SETUP UTILITY The BIOS Setup Utility is a program that sets up the operatig eviromet for your otebook. Your BIOS is set at the factory for ormal operatig coditios, therefore there is o eed to set or chage the BIOS eviromet to operate your otebook. The BIOS Setup Utility cofigures: Device cotrol feature parameters, such as chagig I/O addresses ad boot devices. System Data Security feature parameters, such as passwords. Eterig the BIOS Setup Utility To eter the BIOS Setup Utility do the followig: 1. Tur o or restart your otebook. 2. Press the [F2] key oce the Fujitsu logo appears o the scree. This will ope the mai meu of the BIOS Setup Utility with the curret settigs displayed. 3. Press the [RIGHT ARROW] or [LEFT ARROW] key to scroll through the other setup meus to review or alter the curret settigs. Navigatig Through The Setup Utility The BIOS setup utility cosists of six meus: Mai, Advaced, Security, Boot, Ifo, ad Exit. This documet explais each meu i tur, icludig all submeus ad setup items. The followig procedures allow you to avigate the setup utility meus: 1. To select a meu, use the cursor keys: [ ], [ ]. 2. To select a field withi a meu or a submeu, use the cursor keys: [ ], [ ]. 3. To select the differet values for each field, press the [Spacebar] or [+] to chage to the ext higher selectio ad [F5] or [-] to go to the ext lower selectio. 4. To activate a submeu press [Eter]. 5. To retur to a meu from a submeu, press [Esc]. 6. To go to the Exit meu from ay other meu, press [Esc]. POINTS Selectig a field causes a help message about that field to be displayed o the right-had side of the scree. Pressig the Eter key with the highlight o a selectio that is ot a submeu or auto selectio will cause a list of all optios for that item to be displayed. Pressig the Eter key agai will select the highlighted choice. 7. Pressig the [F9] key resets all items i the BIOS to the default values. 8. Pressig the [F10] key saves the curret cofiguratio ad exits the BIOS Setup Utility. You will be asked to verify this selectio before it is executed. 9. Pressig the [F1] key gives you a geeral help scree. Eterig the Setup Utility After a Cofiguratio Chage or System Failure If there has bee a chage i the system cofiguratio that does ot match the parameter settigs stored i your BIOS memory, or there is a failure i the system, the system beeps ad/or displays a error message after the Power O Self Test (POST). If the failure is ot too severe, you will have a opportuity to modify the settigs of the utility, as described i the followig steps: 1. Whe you tur o or restart the computer there is a beep ad/or the followig message appears: Error message - please ru SETUP program Press <F1> key to cotiue, <F2> to ru SETUP 2. If a error message is displayed o the scree, ad you wat to cotiue with the boot process ad start the operatig system ayway, press the [F1] key. POINTS If your otebook emits a series of beeps that souds like a code ad the display is blak, please refer to the Troubleshootig Sectio of your system User s Guide. The Troubleshootig Sectio icludes a list of error messages ad their meaigs. If your data security settigs require it, you may be asked for a password before the operatig system will be loaded. 2

LifeBook C Series Notebook BIOS MAIN MENU SETTING STANDARD SYSTEM PARAMETERS The Mai Meu allows you to set or view the curret system parameters. Follow the istructios for Navigatig Through The Setup Utility to make ay chages. (See Navigatig Through The Setup Utility o page 2 for more iformatio.) The followig tables show the ames of the meu fields for the Mai meu ad its submeus, all of the optios for each field, the default settigs ad a descriptio of the field s fuctio ad ay special iformatio eeded to help uderstad the field s use. *Note that actual drive labels show may vary. The CD-ROM will oly take Drive C: (hard drive format) if the iteral hard drive is ot preset or is disabled. The bootable CD-ROM ca ever use a C: desigatio if a formatted iteral hard drive is preset, sice the C: desigator is always reserved for the iteral hard drive.the boot sequece igores the ew drive desigatios, but your applicatio software will use the ew desigatios. Be careful of the operatig eviromet whe bootig from a CD-ROM or you may overwrite files by mistake. 8

Mai Meu Secodary Master Submeu of the Mai Meu The Secodary Master submeu is for the iteral CD- ROM drive. The drive type is displayed o this meu as well as the Mai meu. Your otebook auto-seses the characteristics of the iteral CD-ROM Drive istalled. You will ot eed to modify these settigs, they are displayed for your referece. Advaced Meu Serial/Parallel Port Cofiguratio Submeu of the Advaced Meu The Serial/Parallel Port Cofiguratio submeu provides the ability to set the I/O addresses ad iterrupt levels for the serial (ifrared) ad parallel ports of your otebook. POINTS To prevet IRQ ad address coflicts, avoid chagig the default settigs. If you must chage the settigs, you ca call 1-800-8FUJITSU for techical assistace. The BIOS will war you of a resource coflict by placig a yellow asterisk ext to each device that is i coflict. All I/O addresses i Table 5 are i hexadecimal. CAUTION I/O addresses, DMA chaels, ad Iterrupt levels ca be etered i various ways, icludig via the BIOS setup utility, the cotrol software for the I/O device, or the hardware. If ay two ports or devices have the same I/O address assiged, your otebook will ot fuctio ormally. Please keep a record of origial settigs before makig ay chages i the evet that a restoratio is required.
