POSITION DESCRIPTION: STRUCTURAL ENGINEER LEVEL: ASSOCIATE Location: Auckland Reports to: General Manager PURPOSE: To work with the General Manager in developing and growing a Structural Engineering Team within the Alexander & Co Ltd (ACL) brand. Τo meet the needs of ACL clients through the provision of high-level quality professional consulting services. Significantly contribute to the success of the business unit in meeting its goals through providing appropriate specialist technical advice and the effective management of clients, staff and projects. To grow and develop personal and professional leadership skills. KEY RESULTS AREA Project Management Act as Project Manager for projects, ensuring that all deliverables meet client's needs without compromising ACL quality standards or processes. Prepare project briefs and fee estimates. Prepare and update project plans. Provide input/leadership to project teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the required quality. Manage projects, including timely and clear reporting, invoicing and record systems. Actively seek feedback from clients and ACL project teams reflecting on the performance of the team and apply lessons learnt. Select and coach project team members to maximise their enjoyment and ensure successful project outcomes. Regularly communicate with the client to ensure their expectations are met. Assist project team members to reflect on their performance and apply knowledge learning principles.
Technical Maintain high levels of technical currency and leadership within structural engineering in ACL and beyond. Take a significant lead role in the planning of projects including project management to correctly scope out projects, with appropriate inputs, outputs and verification activities. Produce research, feasibility studies and subsequent reporting suitable for client presentation. Produce and review designs, calculations and drawings suitable for the preparation of contract documentation. Prepare and implement contract documentation, specifications, schedules and project estimates. Undertake construction supervision and contract administration to required company and standard procedures as required. Undertake appropriate verification of projects. Maintain knowledge of appropriate technical standards, legislation, codes of practice and New Zealand standards. Ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with appropriate professional and technical standards and practices and meets the requirements of ACL. Mentor junior staff and assist them in the development of their technical and leadership skills. STRATEGIC AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Take a lead role in business development for the Structural Engineering Team. Develop and maintain a professional profile with key clients and the engineering/ scientific community generally (including the publishing of papers). Identify market opportunities and undertake marketing initiatives, to fully exploit the resources and special skills of the Engineering Team, and help develop and promote new, innovative services to both internal and external clients. Build and maintain strong working relationship with the South Island office. Have an active role in relationship management with the other areas of the business. Market the products and services of the whole company wherever possible. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Coach and mentor staff, helping them to reach their full potential. Actively assist the GM and the Management Team to ensure staff are fully utilised in their field of expertise. CLIENT MANAGEMENT Role model to the team, delivery to all clients of a service that provides valuable business solutions on time and within budget. Make complex issues easier to understand for both clients and team members and enable others learning. Develop communication and relationship building skills that continuously enhances the company s credibility. HEALTH & SAFETY Ensure that all projects and activities have an approved safety plan and that health and safety issues are managed through the project plan. All aspects of the site and work will be completed and consistent with the agreed plan. Identify appropriate training requirements for your role and participate in appropriate training. Ensure that hasards arising from, or associated with projects or activities undertaken are identified, reported and managed including selfmanagement where appropriate.
