It also describes how to istall ad customize both the Oracle7 ad Oracle8 database maagemet systems for BAAN IV. The guide is iteded for BAAN IV istallers ad system admiistrators. The reader is assumed to be familiar with Microsoft Widows NT s system admiistratio. The guide is divided ito 2 chapters ad oe appedix: Chapter 1 describes the prerequisites for a Oracle7 ad Oracle8 istallatio ad lists the activities that must be performed to istall the Oracle7 ad Oracle8 software. 1 To istall Oracle7 ad Oracle8 This chapter describes how to istall ad cofigure the Oracle7 ad Oracle8 software. The followig topics are covered for each versio: Hardware ad software requiremets Istallig the Oracle7 software Istallig the Oracle8 software Hardware ad software requiremets This sectio assumes that you are familiar with Oracle7 or Oracle8 server ad Widows NT. I additio, it is recommeded that you use the iformatio cotaied i this sectio i cojuctio with the Oracle7 Server, Gettig Started for Widows NT or Oracle8 Server, Gettig Started for Widows NT maual. BAAN recommeds the miimum hardware ad software requiremets for Oracle7 or Oracle8 server ad Widows NT as follows: A Itel 80486 system 64 MB RAM, 64 MB pagig file Network iterface card Widows NT Server 4.0 (Service Pack 3 or higher) TCP/IP A destiatio istallatio drive cotaiig the Widows NT file system (NTFS). (It caot be a drive o a etwork) At least 150 MB of free disk space (icludig a miimum of 100 MB for the system tablespace) NOTE To istall the Oracle7 software This sectio describes how to istall ad cofigure the Oracle7 software. The BAAN IVc4 software requires Oracle7 versio 7.3.3 or higher. To istall the Oracle7 software, complete the followig steps: 1 Log o as a user with admiistrator rights. 2 Isert the Oracle distributio CD-ROM. The system displays a iitial scree. 1-1

If this is a first-time istallatio, a message is displayed warig you that the PATH variable will be updated. Click Yes for the istaller to perform the update ow. 1-2

The BAAN istaller will (optioally) create a ew istace. However, the istaller wars you that you will ot create a istace. 12 Click OK to cotiue. The system displays the followig alert. To istall the Oracle8 software, complete the followig steps: 1 Log o as a user with admiistrator rights. 2 Isert the Oracle distributio CD-ROM. 2 To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 This chapter describes the hardware ad software requiremets for istallig BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 i the Widows NT eviromet. The followig topics are covered: Hardware ad software requiremets Level II default settig Addig the Widows NT user baa Istallig BAAN IV Istallig the demo tables Creatig tables for the demo models Importig the demo models Iitializig parameters Validatig the system Istallig ad cofigurig BAAN services Settig up shared memory Settig up the Eterprise Modeler Uistallig the BAAN IV software Hardware ad software requiremets Because the BAAN IV services are started durig the istallatio of BAAN IV BackOffice, a etwork iterface card must be istalled i your system before you istall the BAAN IV software. Although the etwork iterface card eed ot be coected to the etwork, the BAAN IV etwork-related services do ot start if the etwork iterface card is ot detected. Although BAAN IV ca be istalled o both a NTFS ad a FAT file system, it is strogly recommeded that you istall the BAAN IV software o a NTFS file system. The NTFS file system allows you to format a disk with 1 KB allocatio uits (or eve 512 bytes), resultig i a ecoomic usage of the disk space. Use 1 KB allocatio uits. If you use a drive formatted as a FAT file system, the allocatio uits are specified as 32 KB, because FAT caot hadle the umber of allocatio uits eeded to reduce the size to 16 KB or less. This meas that each file cosumes at least 32 KB, resultig i a waste of disk space. If you use a FAT file system, you risk fillig the disk quickly. 2-1

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 The hardware ad software requiremets for the istallatio of BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 i the Widows NT eviromet are as follows: Widows NT Server 4.0 (Service Pack 3 or higher) operatig system must be istalled ad ruig. The Oracle7 (versio 7.3.3 or higher) or Oracle8 (versio 8.0.4 or higher) database maagemet system i the Widows NT eviromet must be istalled. The BAAN database server must cotai 2 GB of free disk space to accommodate the dbspace for BAAN: a fully-loaded database eeds 1500 MB for the tables. Although 1 GB is eough for the iitial istallatio, this leaves little additioal space for ew data, such as ew data created durig testig. The BAAN applicatio server must cotai 600 MB of free disk space to accommodate the BAAN software (icludig demo compaies). BAAN requires at least 8 MB of RAM mai memory per user. The etwork software must be istalled ad ruig. Level II default settig By default, the BAAN Oracle driver rus i Level 2 mode. If you choose to use Level 1 mode, the you must set the eviromet variable ORA_LEVEL1 to 1 before ruig the istallatio. If you choose to remove the eviromet variable after the istallatio, you ca set this variable i the %BSE%\lib\defaults\db_resource file (as ora_level1:1). This will affect all the users. The level mode of the Oracle driver is treated as Level 1 mode. Addig the Widows NT user baa NOTE To add the Widows NT user baa, complete the followig steps: 1 Log o as a user with admiistrator rights. You must log o to the local server. 2 Choose Start, Programs, Admiistrative Tools (Commo), User Maager for Domais. 2-2

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 3 Choose New User o the User meu ad add the user baa. NOTE The user baa must iitially be created with password baa. After successfully creatig the istallatio, you ca chage this password. 4 Make user baa member of the Users ad Admiistrators groups by clickig the Groups butto. 5 Log o as user baa. NOTE NOTE To istall BAAN IV To istall BAAN IV, complete the followig steps: Multiple BAAN istallatios or eviromets per Widows NT system are supported i this release. The Widows NT user baa must have the password baa durig the BAAN istallatio procedure. Oce you have completed the BAAN istallatio, chage the password of user baa to prevet security problems. You must chage the password for user baa by usig the BAAN DBA Module (ttdba0115m000) sessio. Do ot chage the password if you use the Widows NT User Maager for Domais. 1 Log o as user baa. 2 Close all ruig applicatios. 3 Isert the BAAN distributio CD-ROM. The system automatically displays the Welcome scree. If you eed to perform a maual lauch of the BAAN istallatio program, perform the followig: O a Itel platform, choose setup.exe i the I386 subdirectory of the BAAN istallatio CD-ROM. O a DEC Alpha platform, choose setup.exe i the Alpha subdirectory of the BAAN istallatio CD-ROM. 4 Click Next. The system displays the Software Licese Agreemet scree. 5 Click Yes to accept the licese agreemet. The system displays the Select Eviromet scree. 2-3

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 7 Choose a destiatio directory ad click Next. NOTE You ca accept the default path or eter aother path (ot a root directory) by clickig the Browse butto. If the target directory does ot exist, you are asked if you wat to create it. Do ot eter a etwork drive as the target locatio of the BAAN IV files. The BAAN IV services will ot ru from a etwork drive. Figure 18, Choose Destiatio Locatio 2-5

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 8 Select Full as the setup type ad click Next. Figure 19, Setup Type You ca select oe of the followig optios for your setup: User Iterface: A BAAN IV Widows NT or Widows 95 cliet. User Iterface ad Logic: A BAAN IV cliet that cotais both the user iterface ad applicatio logic. This must be a Widows NT cliet. Full istallatio (icludig applicatio files ad database): The complete BAAN IV Widows NT server versio. 9 For a full server istallatio, select the third optio, Full Istallatio, ad click Next to defie your database for the istallatio. 2-6

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 13 The BAAN Group ad BAAN Password dialog box is displayed. Figure 22, Logi Iformatio Eter the followig iformatio: Group Name: Eter the Group ame for the BAAN applicatio. For example, baadb. Password: Eter the password for this BAAN group (you are asked to retype the password). 2-9

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 14 Click Next to cotiue. The Select Oracle Istace scree is displayed as follows: Figure 23, Select Oracle Istace 15 Select the Create a ew Oracle Istace optio ad supply the ame for the Oracle istace for the BAAN database (i this example, the istace is called BAAN). Note that the ame for the istace ca be four characters at maximum. 16 Click Next to cotiue. The Eter Oracle Istace password scree is displayed. Eter ad reeter the password for the ew istaces ad click Next to cotiue. 2-10

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 17 The Please Eter ew Oracle istace parameters scree is displayed. Figure 24, Oracle istace parameters I this example istallatio, the Large Cofiguratio optio is selected. Click Browse to select the locatio for the system datafile, the redo logs, the rollback ad the temporary tablespace directories. It is recommeded that you locate the Oracle data files o differet drives tha the Oracle software eviromet (defied by the ORACLE_HOME variable). The default sizes are sufficiet for a average istallatio. 2-11

To istall BAAN IV for Oracle7 ad Oracle8 18 Click Next to cotiue. The Optios scree is displayed. Figure 25, Optios I this example istallatio, you caot access the Tablespace Optios area, because you are ot usig a existig istace for the BAAN database. If you wat to make archive loggig available, select the Use Archive Log Mode check box. Either type the directory locatio, or click Browse to choose the archive directory. If you click Browse, the istallatio program displays a dialog box i which you ca browse the directory structure ad select your archive directory. If you leave the dialog area blak, the istaller wars you that if you wat archive loggig, you must specify a archive directory. If you use the archive log mode, the istallatio program edits your parameter file by addig the followig two parameters: LOG_ARCHIVE_START=TRUE LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST=path to archive log directory If you do ot make the archive log mode available, the istallatio program adds the followig lie: LOG_ARCHIVE_START=FALSE 2-12

Figure 26, Data tablespace Eter the followig data i the Data tablespace dialog box: Tablespace ame: I this example BAANDB is the ame of the tablespace. Specify the locatio ad ame of the datafile: I this example, the ame ad locatio of the data file is D:\ORANT\DATABSE\BAANDB.DBF. Click Browse to isert a alterate path for the tablespace. Size i Megabytes: The miimum recommeded tablespace size is 2000 MB. 2-13

Figure 27, Idex tablespace Eter the followig data: Tablespace ame: I this example, BAANDIDX is the ame of the tablespace. Specify the locatio ad ame of the datafile: I this example the ame ad locatio of the data file is E:\ORANT\DATABSE\BAANDBIDX.DBF. Click Browse to isert a alterate path for the tablespace. Size i Megabytes: The miimum recommeded tablespace size is 2000 MB. 2-14

Issues such as multithreadig i a sigle-operatio system, the Oracle eviromet, Widows NT Evet Viewer ad Performace Moitor utilities requiremets, file system support ad backup fuctioality eed to be cosidered. Here are some keys to successfully settig up the Oracle i the Widows NT eviromet. Multiple threads The followig are some evirometal cosideratios regardig multithreadig i a sigle operatig system: Oracle o Widows NT is a sigle operatig system process with multiple threads. Each Oracle backgroud process, such as LGWR, DBWR, ad ARCH, as well as each dedicated server process is a thread of the master Oracle process o NT. This multithreaded architecture is very efficiet o Widows NT, permittig fast, low-overhead cotext switches due to all threads sharig resources of the master process. If you have multiple Oracle istaces ruig o Widows NT, you have oe Oracle process per istace, each with multiple compoet threads. A Oracle istace ad all the coected users are limited to a 2GB address space o Widows NT, but 3GB o Widows NT Eterprise Editio. Because Oracle rus as a sigle Widows NT process, it is restricted by the Widows NT limit o the address space for a process. O both Widows NT ad Widows NT Eterprise Editio, a process address space is limited to 4GB. 3-1

This frees memory ad CPU. 2 Move the primarily-used protocols to the top of the bidig list, such as Cotrol Pael, Network, Bidigs, Server, [move protocols]. 3 Choose Noe for performace boost for foregroud applicatio: Cotrol Pael, System, Performace tab. 4 I the Network Cotrol Pael, o the Services tab, click o the Server service ad click the Properties butto. There are four selectios to choose from. The default is Maximize throughput for file sharig. 5 Click Maximize throughput for Network Applicatios, istead of usig the default. The default choice devotes too much memory for file system buffers. Because the server will be a database [applicatio] server ad ot a file server this memory ca better serve the system if give to the applicatio. This will improve Oracle s performace. Additioal tuig suggestios 1 Keep Redo Logs (sequetial disk I/O) o separate disks from data files ad o disks that have very little other activity. 2 Make sure SGA ad PGA size is ot larger tha physical memory (for performace): Use the SHOW SGA parameter to view the sga. 3 Make the Shared Pool area large eough to hold a copy of all of the most used queries. This ca be *key*. 4 4K pages for the DB_BLOCK_SIZE were determied to be optimal for Oracle because WINDOWS NT page size is also 4K. However, for queries that have a lot of full table scas, cosider movig up the block size to 8K. 5 DB_BLOCK_BUFFER: if (Oracle logical reads-physical reads)/oracle logical reads ratio is below.90, add more blocks to the buffer. 6 Make the HASH_AREA_SIZE large if you are doig DSS type work (2*SORT_AREA_SIZE is suggested). 3-3
