The sensor measures the brightness and detects the presence of persons. The lighting conditions at the workplace are maintained at a user-adjustable set point by providing artificial light according to the amount of available daylight. If there is more than sufficient daylight, the connected luminaries are switched off. The TOUCH DIM sensor can be installed in luminaires (e.g. floor-standing luminaires), or by use of a flush device box with adequate cover also into the ceiling. Good workplace lighting makes the working environment more comfortable. Energy savings of up to 70% can be made compared with conventional workplace lighting. Safety and installation information The unit should be installed and tested only by a qualified electrician. Power to the units must be switched off before any work is undertaken. The relevant safety and accident prevention regulations must be observed. The TOUCH DIM sensor is used exclusively for controlling electronic control gear type QUICKTRONIC INTELLIGENT LI (QTi LI...DIM) or HALOTRONIC INTELLIGENT LI (HTi LI..DIM). No further control units may be operated on the control line. Other applications are not permitted. They may destroy the TOUCH DIM LS/PD LI and other equipment. The maximal number of ECG and the maximal overall cable length between push button, sensor and ECG has to be respected (see Technical data). If the control cable is wired with external voltage, the unit may be destroyed. The TOUCH DIM Sensor may only be supplied with AC operating voltage. This is particularly important to remember if UPS systems are used. page 2 OSRAM - operating instructions TOUCH DIM LS/PD LI

Installation Installation hints The sensor is connected to a 3 wire cable which is admitted for mains voltage. Parallel connection of several sensors is not allowed. The sensor is typically installed in luminaires, ceiling installation is possible by use of a flush device box and an adequate cover. A sensor has a detection angle of approx. 80...100. If it is installed at a height of 3 m, it can monitor an area with a maximum diameter of 5-7 m. When installing the sensor, please note the following: The entire workplace must lie within the monitoring cone of the sensor. Avoid placing the sensor where it is directly exposed to light from other sources as this will lead to incorrect measurements. The sensor should be installed centrally in the sphere of action, so that all controlled lumnaires contribute with the same proportion to the measured brightness. The sensor must not be exposed to drafts (e.g. near air vents). A draft could be misinterpreted as the presence of a person in the room. Operation General functions Switching the luminaire on/off 1. Briefly press the switch once. The luminaire is switched on or off each time the switch is operated. Changing the brightness With the luminaire switched off: 1. Press the switch. Keep pressing the switch until the required brightness is reached. With the luminaire switched on: 1. Press the switch. Keep pressing the switch until the required brightness is reached. The luminaire goes on at minimum brightness. The longer the switch is pressed, the brighter the luminaire gets. When the switch is released the luminaire will remain at the brightness it has reached. The brightness will change. When the switch is released the luminaire will remain at the brightness it has reached. Switching between more and less brightness: 2. Release the switch then press it again. Keep pressing the switch until the required brightness is reached. Every time the switch is held down the unit toggles between more light and less light. Note: Changing the brightness deactivates brightness control. When the unit is switched on again brightness control is reactivated, if a set point value was is stored. Controlling brightness at the workplace Switching the luminaire on and off automatically If the motion detector does not detect movement for 15 minutes, the lighting control unit will reduce the brightness level to the minimum value and then switch off the luminaire. As soon as motion is detected the luminaire will be switched on again, provided that artificial light is needed. If natural daylight is more than max. range of operation, the lighting control unit will switch off the luminaire. To avoid unnecessary and disturbing switching of the lamps, the light is switched off with a delay of approx. 15 minutes. If the brightness at the workplace gets less and persons are present, the lighting control unit will switch on the luminaire again and control the brightness. Adjustment / Storage of the set point for brightness control 1. Change the brightness to the required level by holding down the switch. 2. Once the set point is reached, make a double click (switch pressed twice briefly within short time) within 30 s. The brightness will change. When the switch is released the luminaire will remain at the brightness it has reached. The brightness you have just set will be stored as the new set point. The luminaire will flash twice to confirm that this value has been stored. OSRAM - operating instructions TOUCH DIM LS/PD LI page 5

Operation Switching off at the switch, switching on via motion detection If the luminaire is has been switched off at the switch, then it will not be switched on automatically via the motion detector until an interval of 60s without movement has elapsed. Every further detected movement within this time retriggers the interval. After this interval the next detected motion will switch on the luminaire, provided that artificial light is needed. Deactivation of the brightness control Brightness control can be completely deactivated: 1. If the luminaire is switched on, switch off the luminaire by briefly pressing the switch. 2. Make a double click (switch pressed twice briefly within short time). The set point is erased and brightness control is now disabled. To activate the brightness control again, store a new set point as described on the previous page. Deactivation of the motion detection / Holiday mode If desired the motion detection can be deactivated. The brightness must not be manually changed 30 seconds before this holiday mode is activated. 1. Make a double click (switch pressed twice briefly within short time) The luminaire is switched off. Motion detection is deactivated until the luminaire is switched on again at the switch. page 6 OSRAM - operating instructions TOUCH DIM LS/PD LI

Appendix Troubleshooting The luminaire is not working. Possible cause: There is no power. Check if the luminaire is connected to power. The lamps are faulty. Replace them. The luminaire was switched off at the switch. Switch the luminaire on. The sensor is overexposed to ambient light. Cover the sensor and observe how the luminaire behaves. The luminaire is not regulating its brightness to the set point. Possible cause: After setting the brightness you must press the switch twice within 30 seconds. If you press the switch later you will activate holiday mode. Bear this time in mind. Brightness control is not started until 5 seconds after the set point has been set. Within this time any other switch operations are ignored. Bear this time in mind. Brightness control was deactivated by changing the brightness level with the switch. Switch the luminaire off and on again. Brightness control is deactivated because set point was erased. Store a new set point. The luminaire is not switched on automatically by the motion detector. Possible cause: The luminaire was switched off less than 30 s ago at the switch. Please note: after the luminaire is switched off, motion detection is deactivated for 30s. The motion detector is not covering the workplace. Wave your hand in front of the sensor and observe how the luminaire behaves. If the luminaire reacts to the movement, realign the luminaire over the workplace. More than adequate natural daylight is available and no additional artificial light is needed. The holiday mode is active. For deactivation of the holiday mode please press the switch Holiday mode cannot be activated. Possible cause: The brightness level was changed at the switch less than 30 seconds ago. Wait at least 30 seconds after changing the brightness before activating holiday mode. The luminaire is not reacting as expected to switch operations. Possible cause: The switch is being pressed too long. Please note: Hold down the switch to change the brightness until the luminaire reaches the brightness level you want. For all other functions, just briefly press the switch. If you cannot remedy the problem, please contact the customer service department of your luminaire manufacturer. OSRAM - operating instructions TOUCH DIM LS/PD LI page 7
