1 KNX Lighting Control System Part 1 - Specification Lighting control system A. The following specification details the minimum standards for performance of components, material and operation of lighting control and dimming system proposed for this project. B. The contractor shall supply and install the lighting control system suitable to project requirement as indicated in the specification as well as in drawings. C. The manufacture shall have local support available through distributor/ system integrators and local office presence in the country to support their supplier in the local market. D. It shall be the contractor s responsibility to ensure that the equipment installed meets the specification requirements. Equipment not meeting this performance specification will not be accepted. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 GENERAL A. The Programmable Lighting Control System shall be designed & developed in accordance with the European Installation Bus technology (KNX open protocol system) and shall conform to EN CENELEC standard to cover lighting control (on/off) based on applications such as time, daylight, manual switches, etc. B. A two-wire bus cable shall link all sensors (push buttons, brightness sensors, motion sensors, timers, etc.) and actuators (on/off controllers, dimming controllers, etc.) to each other. The bus cable shall be a twisted pair, screened & shielded with solid conductors and shall be capable of handling information exchange and supplying power to the bus devices. Separate power supply to any of the sensors and actuators shall not be acceptable. The bus cable shall be laid in the building in the form of a linear, star or tree structure similar to the power mains. Systems requiring fixed wiring configurations shall not be acceptable. All the sensors & actuator devices shall be coupled to the bus via easy to install 2-wire bus connectors capable of accepting upto 4 bus connections. Systems requiring crimping, lugging or RJ45 bus connections using CAT 5 UTP or Cat 6 cable shall not be acceptable. 1 KNX Lighting control System Gulf specification - March 2015
2 C. The system shall be completely de-centralized and programmable. The programming shall be implemented via a PC or notebook computer located anywhere in the system and having access level passwords. Programming via local system switches or with no password security shall not be acceptable. Any device in the system shall be accessed for programming from the PC location without having to manipulate the device locally. D. Each device in the system shall be addressable via a software programmable physical address. Any device in the system shall communicate with any other device via software programmable group addresses (telegrams). Each individual device will respond to only those group addresses for which they are programmed to do so. There shall be an EEPROM storing the physical address, group addresses & other software parameters for every device, thus making it intelligent. No centralized processors or centralized memory storage devices shall be permitted. E. It shall be possible to program any of the devices on-line at the working site without affecting any of the system devices or the system operation as well as off-line prior to dispatch of the material to site. F. The entire system shall consist of bus lines each consisting of up to 64 devices. Two consecutive lines shall be connected to each other via line couplers that act as network filters and also provide communication between devices in different lines. In the event of failure of a device in one line, only the control functions controlled by that device shall be affected and all other devices shall continue to operate as normal. G. The power supply module feeding power to the network shall consist of a built in back-up power to compensate short voltage interruptions of upto 200 ms. This back-up power shall enable the system to put all actuators in a fail-safe position (either on or off or as it is) in the event of power failure. H. Each of the devices shall have a built-in push button along with a LED. The LED shall lit in the event the push button is pressed and if there is power to the device, thus depicting that the device is communicating in the system. I. All devices in the system should conform to CE standards and should be manufactured in accordance with the EMC guidelines and the low voltage guidelines. J. System shall be interfaced with the BMS via OPC Server or by BACNET open protocol. The BacNet Interface module shall be from the same manufacturer which shall be compatible with IP network. K. The Multi-protocol module is capable of bridging various protocols such as BacNet, Modbus, IP with KNX system and shall be able to support web based 2 KNX Lighting control System Gulf specification - March 2015
3 application to support smart phones and tablets to view / control the KNX devices in the network. The module shall be from same manufacturer. Third party manufacturers are not acceptable. L. Dimming control of fluorescent lighting shall be via the use of dimmable electronic ballasts. The lighting control system shall accept and compatible with 0-10V analogy control and Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) ballasts. M. Manual ON/OFF controlling of motion detectors shall be provided for the Open/Public area lighting. The maximum spacing between the motion detectors shall be no more than 5 meters. Upon field detection by body motion, the lighting shall be turned-on automatically for duration of 15 to 30 minutes software adjustable delay-off timer from the central lighting control system. N. The motion sensor shall be flush mounted into a ceiling and have a 360-degree field of view. Coverage shall be a minimum of 7 metres diameter circular at the working plane with a ceiling height of 2.5 metres. The motion sensors shall be with software programmable time delay function and adjustable sensitivity on the unit. O. The wall mounted button plate shall support 2-Button, 4-Button and 8 Button with LED indicator, which is used to indicate the operation status of each gang. The wall mounted button plate shall have the ability to be controlled remotely via infrared hand held remote control units. P. The lighting control system shall be provision for its own light control PC with graphical user interface to remote monitoring, ON/OFF control and dimming. The system shall utilize web based graphical user interface system so as to ensure that the programming is not stored in the PC, in case of PC failure still there will not be any single point of failure in the system. The system shall be possible to monitor segment wise, floor wise or area wise from the smart tablet to control and monitor which will ease the operator not to fully depending up on the central PC. 2.2 LIGHTING CONTROL CONCEPT A. All the Relay module, dimmer modules, switches, sensors and other controlling elements shall be addressable and programmable. Dry output switches and central processer units are not accepted. B. Output relays for the project (for total number required for the project refer DB schedule of points / Lighting control schematic) shall control manually via the central capacitive touch technology Display / Timer controller located in the security room, the touch screen size should be on a acceptable size such as 7, 10 or 15 so that the lettering and buttons will 3 KNX Lighting control System Gulf specification - March 2015
4 be on legible size. The Display & control device shall be a flush mounted device or surface mounted according to project requirement. All timer functions shall be controlled from this touch screen from facilities management room or from location decided at the time of construction as per consultant s engineer s approval. The touch screen shall also be able to connect directly via IP network addition to KNX in case of remote monitoring. The touch screen shall be able to work along with central server in case of multiple touch screens in the project, at least 10 touch screens shall be connected to one server where they will work in client server basis. The touch screen shall have ability to connect with IP cameras to monitor the building IP cameras; the system shall have ability to show at least 8 streaming tiles to monitor simultaneously. C. It shall also be possible to override each of these control relays manually from the Lighting Control Panel located in the electrical room. D. These control modules will be located in Lighting Control Panel located (LCP) next to the distribution boards in the electrical room on each of the floors or according to project requirement. E. There shall be multi channel dimmer modules (For number of channels required / DCP refer DB schedule of points / Lighting control schematic) located in the Dimmer control panels (DCP) on various floors to control the dimming of different types of light fittings as shown in layouts and DB schedule of points in that relevant room. F. In addition to the local dimming, the dimming system shall be interfaced with the A/V system via the KNX interface module to accept volt free contacts from the A/V system or via RS232 serial port. G. The lighting control system should operate at the extra low voltage of 24Vdc, 9.6kbit/s transmission. The bus cable is laid as a line, star or tree structure in the building. H. The programming of the system is carried out with the Engineering Tools Software (ETS) parameterization software via an RS232 or USB interface. They can be used in any location within the bus system. A programming of the KNX devices by the Ethernet shall also be possible via IP gateway. Area Control Concept: A. The Lighting Control system shall be programmed in such a way that unnecessary usage of power is minimized. Ground Floor & Entrance Lighting: lights should be controlled from Central Touch screen panel based on timer control.daylight harvesting should also be implemented in areas near to the peripheral of the building towards glassed exteriors. Unnecessary lights should be switched OFF during non activity hours to conserve energy, where ever indicated by the consultant /Client. C. Common Area / Public Area lighting: All lights in the lift lobbies, corridors, should be controlled using a movement/presence detector, Time schedule and central control. Lighting Circuits should be designed to achieve a minimum light level (say 35%) during non activity period. Staircases can be shall be controlled with Timer push button. During an emergency situation the lights should automatically be switched ON until the situation is restored. D. Covered Car park: All the covered car park should have lights controlled in such a way that during no activity the lights will be stay ON 30% / 50%. 100% lights will be ON in particular zone when any movement is detected within that zone using weather proof Movement/presence detector. All ramp lights should be kept ON always. Driveway lights can be designed to have split circuits to achieve 50% on no activity and 100% percent on activity period. Manual override switches should also be provided. During emergency situation all the lights should be switched ON until the situation is restored. E. Staircase lights: All staircase lights shall be controlled from local intelligent push switch timer push switch STANDARDS & QUALITY ASSURANCE A. All devices shall be CE listed specifically for the required loads (i.e., incandescent, fluorescent and magnetic low voltage transformer, etc.). Manufacturer shall provide valid supporting document upon request. B. Energy efficiency in Building control system EN C. Safety clearance must comply with IEC D. Installation shall comply in accordance with TH35 & EN60715, IEC/EN LIGHTING CONTROL MODULES i. The relay unit shall allow control of 2/4/8/12 independent loads, equipped with a voltage free, magnetically latched relay per channel or equivalent solid state electronic relay according to the project requirement. No derating shall be acceptable for inductive lighting loads. The load rating shall be of 16A per channel or 10A per channel as per project requirement, each relay operation shall be indicated on channel LED indicator or via the override knob. 6 to be manually overridden at each unit. The relays shall have interlocking facility feature for specific operation, and this shall be possible via software from central PC. The individual relays shall be DIN TH35 rail mounted within the LCP enclosure according to EN ii. Nominal voltage: AC 230 V, Hz and each contact shall have Nominal current rating of 16 A, with cosϕ = 0,6, with Capacitive load: AC 230 V, 16 A, max. 200 µf, and for 10A rated load, the nominal current shall be 10A in each channel with cosϕ = 1 & 0.6 and for capacitive load of AC230V, it shall with stand 10A with max of 105 µf. Peak inrush current (150µs) 600A, Peak inrush current (230µs) 480A, Peak inrush current (600µs) 300A iii. The module width shall have 4 modules width which is approx 72 mm. iv. In the event of power failure or bus wiring failure or control module failure, each of the relays shall attain a pre-programmed fail-safe position ( Switch On, Switch Off or Remain As it is ). v. The control modules shall be capable of been programmed with different applications to suit site requirements for e.g. staircase lighting function which switches Off the relays after a preprogrammed time from the time it has switched On. The application for which a relay has been programmed shall apply irrespective of the signal from which it is controlled. vi. Each of the relays shall be capable of being programmed with its own On and Off delays that shall be applicable irrespective of the signal from which the relays are controlled. vii. Each of the control module shall have its own individual address and shall be capable of being programmed from the central PC for the purpose of changing parameters without the need to access the module locally. viii. Central PC will be made available during testing and commissioning of the system and will then be taken back after successful commissioning DIMMING CONTROL MODULES The dimming module shall be capable of switching and dimming three independent groups (3 circuits) of luminaires with electronic ballasts (0-10 V or 1-10V control input). 7 channel, the switching state of the contacts shall display as status. The switch contact for switching the electronic ballasts/transformers shall be with Nominal voltage of AC 230 V, Hz with the current rating of 16 A with cosϕ = 0.6, 0-10 V interface current rating shall not exceed ma with the voltage range of DC 0-10 V. The service life of the device shall have greater than 50,000 switching cycles at nominal load, the load capacity of max 100mA (approx 50 electronic ballast). Capacitive load capacity of 3600W with 200micro Farad. Device width: 4 HP = ca. 72 mm Universal Dimmer Actuator A. The dimmer unit shall be capable of controlling 1, 2 and 4 independent loads, and the load rating shall be of 250W, 300W, 500W and 1000W per channel capacity, the load wattages shall be coordinated with MEP contractor. The dimmer unit shall have the facility to program a minimum level setting and power-up delay time via the lighting control software it shall also have local ON/OFF toggle buttons shall allow individual channels to be manually overridden at each unit. The unit readiness for operation shall be indicated by a green LED after the application has been loaded. B. Electrical isolation between the Extra Low (Bus) Voltage and the Low (mains) voltage side of the unit shall be provided with the use of optical isolators. C. Electricity input for each channel could be fed from different phases according to the requirement of project. D. The individual dimmers shall be DIN rail mounted within the unit enclosure. DALI Gateway A. The KNX DALI gateway shall connect the cross-function KNX bus with the DALI bus designed exclusively for lighting control. Luminaries with DALI electronic ballasts shall be integrated into a KNX system using this unit. The gateway shall serve as the DALI master and power supply for the connected electronic ballasts. Up to a maximum of 64 electronic ballasts according to IEC in a total of 16 groups can be switched, dimmed or set to a defined value. 7 KNX Lighting control System Gulf specification - March 2015
8 B. Brightness values or error messages in the DALI devices can be sent to the KNX and visualized on display units. The DALI is commissioned and configured with the integrated display and operator buttons. C. DALI gateway shall have an option to have IP port for programming. D. Each channel shall have ability to handle 64 devices individually. E. Installation shall comply to TH 35 according to EN 60715, with the bus connection made via a bus connecting terminal. F. The device should have feature of IP address allocation via DHCP service or fixed IP address and should have DC V, short circuit Proof (base isolation, no SELV) Movement / occupancy Sensor A. The presence detection / Movement detection sensor shall directly work on KNX bus as an integrated system, which shall send commands in KNX bus to switch on or switch off the lights based on the occupancy. Sensors with dry contract output is not acceptable, each sensor shall have an EEPROM memory to store its address and programming information. B. If sufficient day light and natural light brightness is available inside the room, the sensor shall have an intelligence to keep the lights in off condition though it detects the movement / presence in the room. C. Ceiling mounting sensor in a size 60 mounting box, with optimal installation at 2.5 m. Can also be mounted to ceilings using the surface mounting housing. D. It shall be possible to program the sensor from ETS software. Range: a Diameter of max. 7 m (at a mounting height of 2.50 m) Number of levels: 6 Number of zones: 136 with 544 switching segments Number of movement sensors: 4 Light sensor: internal light sensor infinitely adjustable from approx. 10 to 2000 Lux (ETS); external light sensor via KNX EC Directives: Low-voltage guideline 2006/95/EC and EMC guideline 2004/108/EC E. Incase of requirement for IR operation, the Sensor shall have an option to receive the IR codes. 8 KNX Lighting control System Gulf specification - March 2015
9 Energy Monitoring: A. The energy measurement unit shall be able to provide energy consumption, power, and current and provide the results via the KNX bus directly without any interface, the measured energy can easily be available in touch screen or in the central PC for the end customer to check. B. It shall also provide the active energy consumption (max 1.5%) per channel and total consumption with the accuracy of 10%. The device should have minimum of 3 channels and each channel should rate to measure 16A. The module should comply with TH35 DIN rain as per DIN EN C. The unit shall be integrated with status LED which shall indicate the overload, mains voltage absent and bus voltage etc., the unit shall be possible to program via ETS software. D. Operating voltage should be 230V 50/HZ +/- 10%, accuracy class of the unit shall comply to IEC The size shall not exceed 4 modules ( 90HX72WX65D mm) as it can be located in the DB/LCP according to the project requirement. Integrator Module/ Multi protocol gateway : A. The unit shall have following functionality to support the building lighting control system to integrate with BMS and Graphical user interface, the unit shall also work as embedded graphical user interface which enables to easily view the state of lighting control system in a building, B. It should support: KNX, Modbus, TCP/IP, BacNet, RS232, USB ( the connections should be rapid connection terminals, screw terminals are not acceptable). C. The unit shall work as a BACnet server for 500 points for TCP/IP bi-directional communication, the unit must be certified for BTL (BACnet Technical Laboratory) as a B-ASC (BACnet Application Specific Controler) D. The unit shall be integrating the following functions: E. Webserver / Internet gateway, Weekly and annual clock,knx IP router,logic module, Energy and technical dashboard. F. For high level integration and customization such as webservices or different communication protocols, the unit shall be flexible enough to program through LUA language. 9 KNX Lighting control System Gulf specification - March 2015
10 2.5 LIGHTING CONTROL PANELS (LCP s & DCPs) There shall be a dedicated Lighting Control Panel (LCP) / Dimmer Control Panel (DCP) as shown in the layouts. It shall house the system devices and the related control equipment depending on the no. of circuits being controlled. This is to ensure the power wiring between the DB s and the control modules inside these panels are kept to a minimum. The LCP / DCP shall be surface mounted with metal enclosures together with built-in DIN-rails for easy installation of the control equipment. 10 KNX Lighting control System Gulf specification - March 2015
