Connecting Your Device to a Wireless Network

Transcription:

Library ebooks and Your Amazon Kindle (1st or 2nd Generation), Paperwhite, Keyboard, DX or Touch Library ebooks can be read on your Amazon Kindle. You need a computer with an Internet connection and a valid library card. When using your Kindle for the first time, you will need to obtain an account at www.amazon.com and then register your Kindle device. The ebook website is located at westmoreland.lib.overdrive.com. Once you sign in to your account and select a book, you will be taken to Amazon.com web site to complete the download. The item will then transfer to your Kindle through a wireless connection. You can select a loan period of 1, 2 or three weeks when you check out the item. Titles are available to renew if no one else has placed a hold on that item. Otherwise, items will be automatically returned at the end of the lending period. 1. On your computer, open the Westmoreland ebook Network link (westmoreland.lib.overdrive.com) to view the ebook catalog. 2. Once the site has opened, select Sign in on the upper right-hand side of the page. 3. Then enter your library card number without using any spaces and include any ending letter, if any. You may also wish to place a check in the box next to Remember my login information on this device. If you receive any error messages or blocks, please call the library at 724-837-5620 and press #3 for reference. Page 1 of 11

4. To search for an ebook, select the Menu icon, or choose from the categories below Fiction, Nonfiction, Audiobook Fiction, Audiobook Nonfiction or Featured Collections. 5. When in your category selection, you will need to find the books in the Kindle format to work with your device. To do this, select Format under Filter search by on the left side of the page. Page 2 of 11

6. Choose the Kindle Book link under format to show kindle items in the catalog. 7. Once in the catalog, you will notice that the book covers have an icon of either a black or gray book or a headphone in the upper right-hand corner. The black book represents an item that is in an ebook format and available for checkout. A gray book indicates that the item is in an ebook format and currently check out and not available. You can place a hold on this item by supplying your e-mail address. Once available, you will have 72 hours to borrow the title. A headphone icon shows that the item is in an audio format. The original Kindle does not support audio books from libraries. Page 3 of 11

8. To find only titles that are available now, select the black button on the top-left corner labeled Show me only titles with copies available. The screen will refresh and the page will show items that can be checked out immediately. (This button doesn't appear on the home screen, but only after you have selected a category of ebooks.) 9. Once you find a title, double-click on its cover. Your Bookshelf will appear where you will see items you have checked out plus a sample of your current title. Press Borrow to download the book. If your Kindle is not registered with Amazon, you will be asked to register your device. 14. On the next screen, in order to obtain your loan, click on Get library book to download your book. You need an active Wi-Fi connection, and then your book will be delivered to your device. 15. If your book does not load to your Kindle, you may need to sync your Kindle to obtain your book. This can be found under the Menu button on your Kindle. Page 6 of 11

It will be automatically returned at the end of the lending period. You do not have to worry about overdue fines with ebooks. You are allowed up to 10 items checked out and 20 items on hold at any one time. Items can be renewed if no one has reserved the title. You will see a renew option on your Westmoreland ebook Network Bookshelf three days before your item is due. Click on Renew. 19. If the item is not renewable, the Renew option will be grayed out. If you select the Renew option icon, you will be given the choice to place the book on hold. Page 7 of 11
