1 ebook downloading detailed explanation Library staff will try to help you if you experience problems downloading ebooks. However it must be realised that there are so many devices that staff might not be able to help at times. You may contact us at if you are experiencing a problem but please try online help first. You are limited to a maximum of 5 ebooks at the one time which you may borrow for 7, 14 or 21 days. At the end of this period the item you will no longer be able to view the item. The two main formats for ebooks are epub and PDF. The procedure outlined below is for downloading an epub book to a Kobo ereader using a PC and assumes that you are on the Overdrive website. The procedure will be very similar for most of the other ereaders on the market. It is however to be noted that due to Amazon licensing restrictions the Kindle will currently NOT work. 1. Download Adobe Digital Editions to your PC. It is free but you will be required to register it using your address. You will only have to do this once. 2. Sign in by selecting Shire of Mundaring from the dropdown menu and then typing in your library card number and the PIN mundaring (lower case). 3. Use the catalogue search box top right to find a specific ebook. You can use the provided filter to speed up your search

2 If you just want to select by browsing the shelves click on Digital Media Home (top left).here you will see covers of ebooks in the following categories: New to the library, Recently returned, Most popular and Hidden gems. Use the forward arrow to scroll through the shelves. 4. To make your selection click on the cover of your choice and then ADD TO CART. Please note that you may be required to choose between the EPUB or PDF format. This procedure assumes that you are selecting EPUB. 5. If you only want the one item you may now Proceed to Checkout. If you want to select more items just Continue Browsing. 6. At the checkout you will see a list of the items that you have selected. If you decide at this point that you don t want one you can simple remove it by clicking Remove. You must now select the lending period from the drop down menu. This can be 7, 14, or 21 days. 7. Click on Confirm Checkout. 8. Click on the Download button. Depending on your operating system you may be prompted at this stage to Open or Save the item. For Windows 7 select Open. This will launch Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) and the item begins to download to your PC where it is stored within ADE. It is not as yet on your ereader. 9. Connect your ereader to the PC (or if in a WiFi environment connect that way) and follow any on-screen instructions. In all probability this will be an instruction to connect. If this is the first use of your ereader with ADE you will probably be prompted to authorise the device. Please do so. ADE is the interface between your PC and your ereader. It is from here that you will load the ebook onto your reader. To do this click on the Library icon (top far left) 10. At the bottom of the left hand side of ADE you should see the icon for your ereader

3 11. It is now simply a matter of dragging and dropping the ebook from the right side of ADE onto the icon for your ereader. A message will appear saying something like Processing content. 12. The ebook is now on your ereader To delete a book in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) Once you have finished reading an item that you have borrowed from the online library it is good etiquette to return it so that someone else may borrow it. Yes most ebooks in an electronic library are basically just the same as a physical book on a shelf if you have borrowed it nobody else can until you return it, unless the library has more than one copy. The exception to this are those books that are out of copyright. These can be downloaded by everyone and kept for as long as you want without denying access to other readers. This procedure assumes that you are connected to the internet. 1. Launch ADE 2. Click on the item that you wish to return 3. In the drop down menu to the top left of the title select Return Borrowed Item Are you sure you want to return this item? Return

4 The item now disappears from the library grid. It is important to note that even though you have returned the item using ADE it is still booked out to you on the Overdrive website and there is no facility there to return it before it is due so that others may borrow it. Once the borrowing period has elapsed you will no longer be able to read the book on your ereader and you will get a message similar to the one below if you try. If you open ADE you can see if the loan period has expired in the Status column to the right,

5 To remove the book cover, which still remains on your ereader and is visible even though you cannot read the content of the book, simply click on the drop down menu associated with the title and select Delete Item. For Online help please click here
