1 How to Borrow Adobe EPUB Ebooks From Your iphone and ipod Touch What you will need before starting: 1. WIFI or 3G connection 2. Westlake Porter Public Library Card number (located on the back of your card, starts with PPPL, a total of 14 characters; card should be in good standing) 3. Apple ID What you will be getting during the Setup Process: 1. Overdrive Media Console App 2. Adobe ID

2 There are two ebook formats available to you 1. Adobe EPUB format: ebooks in this format will be downloaded to your Overdrive App 2. Kindle format: ebooks in this format will be downloaded to your Amazon Kindle App What is the difference between the two: The text of the ebook does not change regardless of which format you choose to use. Here are the differences: 1. Adobe EPUB ebook: -- you will need to get an Adobe ID from -- you will read the Adobe EPUB ebook inside the Overdrive Media Console App -- the Overdrive App has a dictionary function but does NOT have notes and highlighting options currently 2. Kindle Book format -- you will need to sign up with Amazon for an Amazon account -- you will read the Kindle Book inside the Kindle App -- the Kindle App and the Kindle devices have dictionary, notes and highlighting options

3 Getting the Overdrive App Go to the App store Tap Search (on the bottom of the screen) Type in Overdrive in the search box then tap Search Tap the Overdrive Media Console logo Tap Free Tap Install Type in your APPLE ID password then tap OK The Overdrive Media Console will start downloading Authorizing your Device (for those WITH an Adobe ID) Tap the Overdrive Media Console App You will be prompted to Sign In or Register at Adobe.com Tap Cancel The app opens to your Bookshelf (it should say Welcome to Overdrive Media Console ). The Bookshelf is where your Adobe EPUB ebooks will be downloaded to Tap Get Books on the upper right corner of the screen Tap Settings on the bottom of the screen On this screen, you will see Adobe Authorization Tap Authorize Enter your Adobe ID and password tap Authorize then tap Bookshelf (located on the upper right corner of the screen)

4 Authorizing your ipad (for those WITHOUT an Adobe ID) Tap the Overdrive Media Console App You will prompted to Sign In or Register at Adobe.com Tap Cancel The app opens to your Bookshelf (it should say Welcome to Overdrive Media Console ). The Bookshelf is where your Adobe EPUB ebooks will be downloaded to Tap Get Books on the upper right corner of the screen Tap Settings on the bottom of the screen On this screen, you will see Adobe Authorization Tap Authorize On the bottom of the screen, tap Get a free Adobe ID You will be taken out of the Overdrive app and onto on your Safari Tap Create an Adobe Account Fill in the boxes (only fill in the fields with asterisks) Under Communication preferences, UNCHECK , Mail, Telephone Scroll down and tap Continue The next screen should say Thank you for becoming a member of the Adobe Community Scroll all the way to the top Tap Welcome, your name located on the upper right corner of the screen A drop down menu will appear Tap on Sign out Tap the Home Button Open the Overdrive App type in your new Adobe ID and password tap Authorize then tap Bookshelf (located on the upper right corner of the screen)

5 Getting Started with the Overdrive App 1. Open the Overdrive App 2. The app opens to your Bookshelf (it should say Welcome to Overdrive Media Console ). The Bookshelf is where your Adobe EPUB ebooks will be downloaded to 3. Tap Get Books on the upper right corner of the screen 4. Tap Add a Library 5. Type in our Zip Code (44145) then tap Search 6. Tap Westlake Porter Public Library 7. Tap the Star right next to Westlake Porter Digital Media (this bookmarks our library) 8. Then tap the words Westlake Porter Digital Media 9. You will be taken out of the Overdrive App and onto Safari which will open to our Digital Media page Browsing/Searching for Adobe EPUB ebooks 1. If you know the title of the book you are looking for, tap Search. Type in the title and click Go 2. If you d like to Browse, you can do it two ways BROAD SEARCH: this will list all the Adobe EPUB ebook titles we own (this includes titles that are checked out and titles available to borrow right now) 1. Tap Browse 2. Click on Adobe EPUB ebook titles 3. Titles are sorted according to the Date they were Added to the library s collection. You have the option of sorting them by tapping the tabs for Title, Creator, Popularity, Date Added (these tabs are located right above the first item on the list) FOCUSED SEARCH: this will list Adobe EPUB ebook title available to borrow right now 1. Tap Search 2. Click on Advanced on the right hand side of the screen (located under the word Go) 3. Scroll down to Format 4. Tap the drop down arrow under Format 5. Choose Adobe EPUB ebook and click on Done 6. Scroll all the way down 7. Tap the box next to Only show titles with copies available 8. Tap Search WISH LIST: Any time during the browsing process, you can add Adobe epub ebooks to your Wish List by clicking on Add to Wish List. This list will keep track of books you may want to borrow in the future. It will NOT put items on hold or check them out. To do that, you would have to click on Place a hold or Add to ebookbag. As always, choose the Adobe epub format when adding items to your wish list.

6 Placing Holds 1. If the book you d like to borrow is currently checked out, you will see the Place a Hold button, instead of Add to ebookbag 2. tap on Place a Hold next to the Adobe EPUB ebook format 3. type in your library card number (if you haven t already) and tap Login 4. You will be prompted to type in your address twice 5. Tap Place a Hold 6. You will receive an when the selected title becomes available for checkout 7. You will have 3 days to check out the selected title, once you receive the Checking Out 1. Once you ve chosen your book, tap the Add to ebookbag button below the title of the book 2. Tap Proceed to checkout 3. Type in your library card number starts with pppl and is 14 characters long, no spaces, no need to capitalize) 4. Tap the box right next to Remember me on this device 5. tap Login 6. Right below the title of your selected book is a drop down menu for Lending Period 7. Tap the downward arrow then tap the lending period you prefer (7 day, 14 day, 21 day) 8. Tap Confirm Checkout 9. A cover of the book, the title and expiration date will appear 10. Tap Download 11. The Overdrive App will open 12. Your Adobe EPUB ebook will start downloading

7 Reading your Adobe EPUB ebook 1. When downloading has finished, tap on the book cover to open your ebook 2. Tap the middle of the screen to access the following options: tap the Sun Icon to adjust brightness or to turn on Night Mode tap AA to adjust Font Size and turn on Sepia Background tap the icon on the upper right corner (three dot-and-line figures stacked on each other ) to reach the Table of Contents, to navigate between pages of the book and to access your Bookmarks Tap the Padlock Icon at the bottom left corner of the screen to lock the orientation of the screen Tap the arrow on the upper left corner to go back to the Overdrive bookshelf 3. Tap the middle of the screen again to remove the top and bottom tool bars 4. Tap the right side of the screen to Advance the book 5. Tap the left side of the screen to Go back a page 6. To find the definition of a word, tap and hold the word until a box with the word dictionary pops up. Remove your finger then tap dictionary. Returning/Deleting your Adobe EPUB ebook 1. Open your Overdrive App 2. From your Bookshelf, look for the book you want to return early or to delete from your iphone/ipod Touch 3. Look for the plus sign to the right of the title and tap it 4. Tap Return/Delete 5. Tap Return then Delete if you want to return your book (which will remove it from your account) as well as delete it from your iphone/ipod Touch 6. Tap Delete only to delete the book from your iphone/ipod Touch but NOT from your account. This choice gives you the option of re-downloading the title

8 How to Re-Download your Adobe EPUB ebook if you accidentally deleted a book from your Overdrive bookshelf, you can download this book again as long as it hasn t expired 1. Open Overdrive app 2. Tap on Get Books (upper right corner) 3. Tap on Westlake Porter Digital Media 4. Safari will open to the library s Digital Media page 5. Tap My Account 6. Type in your library card number and Login 7. Tap My Checkouts 8. Choose the title you d like to download and tap Download 9. The Overdrive app will open and your book will start downloading How to access your Westlake Porter Digital Media Account: 1. Open the Overdrive App 2. The app opens to your Bookshelf 3. Tap Get Books on the upper right corner of the screen 4. Tap Westlake Porter Digital Media 5. You will be taken OUT of the Overdrive App. Safari will then open to the library s Digital Media Site 6. Tap on My Account 7. Type in your library card number and log in 8. A list of options will be displayed 9. Click on My Holds to download books you ve placed on hold 10. Click on My Wish List to display books you ve added to your wish list. You can then checkout any of these books from this list when you re ready. Currently, there is NO RENEW OPTION on Overdrive. In order to borrow your ebook again, you will have to go through BORROWING PROCESS as outlined above.
